Wait, did you say ALL Cairn Wraiths? Units(rares) included?

Yes indeed. Both cairn wraith heroes AND cairn wraith rare choices have it.

D@MN, unit of Cairn Wraiths will be one hell of a monster hunter, 3 ethereal attacks that if they hit they auto wound and negate armor.

"Here, little hydra, hydra, hydra."

Just got my copy of the new book!! I'm gonna read it with a nice beer! :)

A few questions to you, if you'll be so kind:

Any changes to Fell Bats?
Can Vampire still be BSBs?
If so, can Magic Banner BSBs have Vampiric Powers? Can a BSB Vampire take a Coven Throne (which would be hilariously awesome)?

has anyone heard anything about manfred apart from his fluff being stretched out abit

Count Mannfred: Standard Vampire Lord stats, level 4 with Loremaster in lore of vampires AND lore of death, dark acolyte, master of black arts and summon creatures of the night powers, sword gives him an extra dice in the magic phase for every unsaved wound caused, armour gives him +2 wounds for a total of 5. Can ride a nightmare, hellsteed or abyssal terror. No longer has the option to choose 2 arcane items.

Mannfred the acolyte: Standard Vampire hero stats, level 2 with Loremaster in lore of vampires, dark acolyte power, has the same sword as Count Mannfred, heavy armour and can ride a nightmare or abyssal terror.

Fell bats unchanged
Vampires can still be BSB.
Can still take vampiric powers. Nothing expressly forbidding BSB vamp from riding coven throne.

Will a BSB on a Large Target (Coven) reduce Crumbling 12" or 18" away?

The special rules specifically say undead within 12" of a BSB suffer one less wound due to Unstable.

Same with marching. Can only be done within 12" of the general (not within his Inspiring Presence which would have made putting him on a dragon or terrorgheist more appealing).

EDIT:I can picture lahmians and necrarchs doing that too, but strigoi aren't smart enough blood dragons aren't evil enough.

If you read the Red Duke book, and what he did to his enemies, I think you'd find Blood Dragons more than capable in the "evil" department... :)

You said Blood Dragons.....
I approve.

Still would not say he is wholly evil though and he has more honor than most other, loved him taking down the new duke.

So mannfred just lost his custom option......
Bit lame.
I have not seen anything actually improve in regards to items or characters, everyone seems to be slightly weaker and more expensive.

BSB is said to be the same as the TK one, -1 to crumble......

Sorry for the late reply, I was out sporting :suck:

Some other things that might not have been mentioned before:

- Vamps can now use the Lore of Shadows, Necromancers only Lore of Vamps or Lore of Death
- Wights indeed have no more magical attacks, just Killing Blow.
- Ghostly Howl and Death Shriek do count as being magical
- Finally confirmed: VDM WILL NOT let us charge anymore :frown: Even with the new charge rules from the BRB, it's a nerf. No more surprise "Hi, we are zombies in your flank"-attack.
- Zombies are dead-easy ( haha  ) to raise now: they get an extra D6 wounds if succesfully targeted by ION.
- Vigour Mortis ASF overrules the ALS of the zombies. Yeey! :zombie3:
- The powered up versions of both VDM and Hellish Vigour become bubbles, rather than single target spells, with both 12". Synergy guys, synergy!! Keep 2 corpse carts near and you'll have units that have ASF, rerolling hits and rerolling wounds!!
- Cloud of Horror of the Bat Swarms is NICE: "An enemy unit in base contact with one or more Bat Swarms has the ASL special rule." Keep those batties as a support unit and you will not regret it
- Corpse Carts, Coven Thrones and Mortis Engines are chariots. That means Impact Hits!!
- Unholy Lodestone: When a friendly wizard within 6" of ULS succesfully cast INO, he may reroll 1D6 to see how many wounds are restored for each eligible infantry unit
- Varghulf: Hatred, Regen, Terror Undead, Vampiric
- The Flag of the Blood Keep is now a single-blood-knight-unit Standard upgrade, rather than to be found in the magic items section. The cost and function of the banner is still teh same

- Isabella got a hefty stat-boost. EDIT: I removed the stats because of forum rules. Let's just say she attacks better, faster and double as much as her previous incarnation.

*EDIT: Krell can kill pretty much anything if he survives incoming attacks. This guy is a beast Hero choice. Pretty expensive though
That's it for now, I'm going to sleep ;)

I'm curious if the Flag of Blood Keep will count as a magic item. Doesn't say so it its description. Grants it some protection from Vaul's Unmaking and the like.:perv:

If the standard bearer of the Blood Knights does not take any magic standards, he may take the FOTBK for its cost. It's like an upgrade only for the Blood Knights unit, like Blasphemous Tome is for a Mortis Engine

So I was right about bloodlines(I believe on the second page of this thread). They're now the same as skaven clans, they have no rules or limitations and are acknowledged purely in fluff...Except for nechrarchs which seem to no longer exist...yet there's more focus on strigoi(crypt horror,terrorgeist...surprisingly not vargheists) than I ever thought there'd be as well as classic pre-vampire undead(mortis engine, hexwraiths, kemmler, krell)

Edit: someone tell me what krells special rules and armour do

I've heard Krell's armor is like Chaos Armor and if he Saves with it against a melee magic weapon, it turns it to a mundane one. Dunno if it works on ranged magical weapons.

Yup, that's about right for the armor. 4+ save and negates weapons ability's for the rest of the game should an enemy hit Krell and he passes his save. Only close combat though

Further on, he has Killing Blow, Terror, Undead. Much always issue and accept challenges. If he fights a challenge whilst in the same unit as Heinrich Kemmler, he has the Heroic Killing Blow special rule. ( this one is a good on for 3000+ battles, as they are both points heavy).

The Black Axe of Krell:
[mod] Removed what looked like a verbatim copy of the rules from VC armybook.[/mod]

Basicly, Krell could take down a dragon as he can cause a max of 9 wounds on a single model. Should he be together with Heinrich Kemmler, this badass can take on a challenge with an Ogre General and win.

count_caliban said:
Interesting. And kemmlers items?

Cloak of Mist & Shadow: at beginning of each vampire turn, Kemmler gains Flying or Ethereal until beginning of his next turn.

Chaos Tomb Blade: +2A. If he is in a skellie or GG unit each model he kills may be added to his unit.

Skull Staff: +1 to dispel attempts. Enemy must reveal all magic items within 12" at start of Kemmler's magic phase

He is also level 4 loremaster (vampire lore). and has the Master of the Dead upgrade (increase skeletons beyond starting number).

Now thats great, he seems to be the new god for combat for our current book minus the ASL but still good.
In effect he is a more survivable Konrad and seeing as how Konrad no long has the same rules because of infinite hatred and red fury changing he is better than.
His old armour was better though, got to try to save it twice, the second time on a unmodified armour save so essentially a 4+ ward on a hero..... Will miss that.

Whats Kemmlers Stat line like?

How is red fury different? All I've heard is its better, works on two handed weapons now. Konrad is cheaper than krell. Also krell is initiative 5, so use a corpse cart to cancel his ASL. Go on the site for kemmlers stats.

Holy crap, not sure how I missed it but Cairn Wraith units are no longer skirmishers! Max unit size of 10 though so don't go expecting any Wraith-stars

Pretty abyssmal for having a magic weapon that needs to kill models to work  WS/S/T/I 4, 3 wounds, 1A, Ld 8.

1 Attack?....
Thats Pathetic.... Could of at least had 2.

Anyway moving onto new gear whats the ghoul king like and can he take items?

He went up in points a bit.
Krell is still cheap but I don't take spells into account on characters for what could happen, at the end of the day I could cast light spells on his to make his WS 10 Initiative 10 as well but thats not a sure thing.
Word is Red Fury (I am almost sure this is correct so if someone could confirm I would appreciate it) now lets you trade all your attacks for 1 heroic killing blow attack.
That said though I hope I am wrong.....

1 attack on profile and +2 from his sword, but yes, pretty bad.

Ghoul king is -1ws -1Ld +1I over a normal vamp lord; has regen 5+, infinite hatred, and poison attacks. Can only be a lvl 1 wizard. Can take any magic equipment except magic armour.

Red Fury is the same but no restriction for great weapons. 1 heroic killing blow attack is called master strike.
