Today is flag day in the states. What better day then today to make a pirates bsb
A few inspirational flags to get me started.
Wip on my banner bearer, guarding the chest full of rum.
More jolly Rodgers.
Jolly Rodger not to be confused with jolly rancher. Is the name used for the pirate flags of the 17th and 18th century. The origins have been lost to time.
Most place it’s origins around the red French flag called the Joli Rouge. Most believed the English adopted it and pronounced it jolly rodger. The flag got changed to black as it is a universal for death. Many death styled icons always got used such as the hour glass, skull and crossbones and even the grim reaper.
Most pirates stylized it to taste there own wants or needs. But most of the flags had a single purpose, to terrorize and make a the prey give up without a fight. For most often the pirate flag was also associated with no quarter.

Now here Is a flag for for a vampire.
For those who don’t know what flag day is. June 14th is the day that commemorates the adoption of the official flag of the United States 1777. It is also the anniversary of the adoption of the United States Army in 1775.
In 1949 president Woodrow Wilson established June 14th as national flag day.
Some things about flag day are better then others.
I thinned down my white to a water like consistency. I used it to paint the skull and crossbones and fill it in, then repainted the eyes and such with a watered down black, then refined it until I was happy with it so I could fill it in with several thin layers of white. You cant tell but that final product had six or seven mis-starts under it.
RE: Pirates of the Sunken Sea,:Nsfw Dire Sharks of doom
So I needed dire wolves for my zombie pirates. Easy answer undead sharks so I slayed the sharks.
Zombie shark
Here are my dire sharks I added two more but they will be doubles so they are not in this picture.
Another zombie
First up is the great white which will be the doom wolf or doom shark in this case.
Here is the wip
.
Now these as you can see are prepainted miniatures, lets change that and make them better shall we. Here is pictures of real great whites.
A great white can be found in all the major ocean surfaces. In size they can exceed 20 feet (6m) in length. That brings back memories of jaws. While on that note the great white is one of four sharks who have been involved in human fatalities.
Some of the oldest great white fossils are 16 million years old and date to mod-Miocene epoche.
This is what I came up with. What do you all think
Now onto the grey reef sharks The grey reef shark is one of the most common reef sharks in the Indo-Pacific, found as far east as Easter Island and as far west as South Africa. Its most often seen in shallow water near the drop-offs of coral reefs, sometimes in social groups if they aren’t hunting. The grey reef shark has the typical “reef shark” shape, with a broad, round snout and large eyes. Most individuals are less than 6 foot long.
My creation
Stop! It’s hammer time!
Hammerhead sharks are appropriately named after the funny looking shaped head. They are carnivorous and range in size from 3 foot to 29 foot long. The eyes and nostrils of the hammerhead shark are found at the ends of the hammer allowing the hammerhead shark to have better vision and smell of the surrounding water.
Now here are mine.
Mako shark or its real name isurus they are found offshore in temperate and tropic seas. They get up too 15 feet in length. The mako will attack people and has caused a number of fatalities.Ofnote this is the shark commonly used to make shark fin soup. A delicacy in Japan. The mako is a close relativeto the great white.
Shark humor
My mako
Tiger sharks live in many temperate and tropic waters. Most commonly found in the central pacific islands. They can get as large as 16feet. It’s name comes from dark stripes upon its body. Which resemble a mammal named the tiger. Thus he must be the tiger of the sea.
They love canals and harbors which bring them into contact with humans. The the tiger shark comes in second in the rate and number of shark attacks and fatalities. The great white being the first.
They are also another one of the sharks caught and finned for use in shark fin soup. It’s livers are also harvested for use in making vitamins. Mostly due to being high in vitamin A.
My tiger shark
Thresher sharks are another shark found in tropic or temperate waters. Mostly the Philippians and off Baja California. They are one of the sharks that are slow to breed which means as they are hunted for the fine and skin. They become more and more close to be endangered. There skin is used to make a variety of leather products. Reaching lengths of 20 feet, they are also a target of recreation fishermen.
Even with its size they are little danger to humans. They have never been reported to attack humans in the water. Though some reports speak of tragedies while fishing for them or wrangling them into a boat. One eye witness account even states one decapitated a man with its tail. While it was being hauled into the fishing boat.
Can we say spitting the last breath at thee?
Finished shark.
The blue shark, is a large, pelagic, indigo-colored shark. It is a sleek shark with long, pointed fins, a pointed snout, and large eyes. Its sleek, tapered body makes it a graceful swimmer. Its elongated tail provides swimming power, and they are some of the fastest sharks. The teeth are pointed and serrated which enables the shark to catch slippery squid and fish, the mainstay of its diet.
On average a blue shark will grow to be 12.5 feet in length. They only weight about 450 pounds. They have a very slender body sand can be mistaken for the young sharks of other species.
They range in color from a light to dark blue. They may have several shades of blue on their bodies with the darkest colors on the top.
Blue sharks are considered to be dangerous and so people are warned to steer clear of them. They have been involved in many attacks on people and some of them have resulted in death due to the force of the jaws and teeth that this species of shark has
.
My blue shark
Cartoon leopard shark
The leopard shark is small and virtually harmless to humans. (Unless said humans are losing their minds trying to look up a leopark shark because the toy company misspelled the name on the bottom. Along with getting the wrong coloration on each shark!)
Leopard sharks grow up to six foot long, and live up to thirty years. No wonder they take ten years to mature!
Their most distinguishing feature is their bold pattern of large dark saddles extending from the head along the back. The saddles are separated by smaller dark spots on a cream to grey/brown background.Albino Leopard sharks are rare but have been recorded.
Today is a crimson fist tutorial so I can get the motivation to finish said army.
Starting off I would normally primer them black so it is easier to start a dark blue theme.
Next I basecoat them Kantor blue.
Next is a drybrush of ultramarine blue or altdorf blue as it is now known.
Next is a wash of drakenhof nightshade
Onto the red hands which is a fun subject. Veterans have two red hands the battle brothers have one. Paint the hand Mephiston red
Up next is Cold steel metallic accents like the Aquila and skulls
Next I do the Abbandon black on the armor joints hoses and weapon casings.
Now to the silver on the weapons again cold steel of course bolt gun works too. Then a wash of black.
Sword hilt is done p3 blighted gold
Now for the eyes I use ruby red a reaper paint. One could also use the screaming bell gw color. I also added the shoulder iconography which was all that was left.
RE: Pirates of the Sunken Sea,:Nsfw Dire Sharks of doom
love that you use sharks as dire wolfes, brilliant! nicely done, i love the different types of shark! although to me sharks might look a bit too "living" and not as much undead, how will you change them to properly fit into the realms of dead?
RE: Pirates of the Sunken Sea,:Nsfw Dire Sharks of doom
Fish smell bad when dead and float funny. I have no plans to make them look more undead. I love them the way they are, sharks already inspire fear. Besides there was a time that dire wolves and ghouls both were living creatures in the undead army.
Crimson fists vanguard veterans ready for the repair to there paint scheme.
Humor
Lets have fun and transform them back into there glory of what Should of been.
First of the fists is my tutorial mini. Not really cast as a veteran as he was too plain. Think he will double in the regular assault squad.
Awesome photo of the sternguard crimson fists sadly his help is wrong. Most Fists keep the blue helm as the veteran status is noted by the right hand being painted red.
Up next we have a veteran with combat Shield and plasma.
The last tutorial I did was also an explanation of how I do the nightlords, though I have added a little something to it. I think I'll be doing an updated lightning tutorial sometime in the future. erv:
