I think the head dress looks awesome to be honest. It creates a good form balance and composition for the model.

Yeah but screw that hat, I'll cut it down of headswap with a leftover from the ME/CT kit.. Her chair, her being in side saddle, her armour, the mount. I love that.! A silly hat wont ruin my day.!
Don't get me wrong, her body and chair look great, but for me, I probably wouldn't even use her and would be not worth my time, especially since I have already pre ordered Mannfred and Arkhan already xD

Well that's just you, man. I think she would look better with her hair or something like antler crown (watching too much true detective )

Hmm not liking it atm, maybe when I've seen the model some more and put the kit together. But I'll give you that a smaller head might look of looking at the model in it's entirety.

The best part about the kit is that swapping characters looks very doable.

EDIT:

All of the Dread abyssals are named. Does anyone know the base size looks like a 50x75?

I was under the impression mortarchs was a triple kit. I saw on gw you order the one you want, but if you flip through pics the others show too, and the sprue seems to have them all, or at least all mount versions?

It's the new website. All of their multi-kits are listed more than once. They then showcase the one you've chosen, 360 view of only that model build. The kit does indeed build all three. Even says so in the description.

Arkhan is my favorite, but I think all three look great, especially like the hats. I am worried about fragility of these models, though, even more than with nagash. That's some bulky monsters balanced on some skinny tails, there. If I can ever scrounge up the money to get one, I'll have to look into doing some sort of scenic base that will offer a bit more stability. Flying over a gnarled tree? Or a mausoleum from the garden of morr, perhaps? Maybe just pick up an extra spirit host, and add some more ghosty bits to provide more contact points?

The Dread AByssals are named and have awesome backgrounds. Mannfred's for example, it's job in the underworld was to feast upon/torment the souls of the "meek", those who could not raise their own hand to protect themselves/stand up for themselves.

I'm not interested in the dread abyssals, but from the sprue pics all of the rider bits look great. I don't think it would be that hard to repurpose them. Neffy for example: Her torso and arms are separate components, as is her head. Thus you can find a suitable lower half and head, but keep the sexy gothic posture collar and shawl. Likewise with Manny's breastplate & cloak, they he may need some cutting away of where the legs join.

Casket of souls 65 slaves, adds d3 power dice to your pool. Hireotitan 87,5 slaves, adds d3 to your casting total. Mortis engine adds 2+ to the casting total if using LoV... They all stack now :D And they all fit in your rare allowance!

@Malisteen

1 Any clarification on the army general rules would be awesome.

2 Do we need to take LoV, LoUD, LoN?

3 Is it true that we don't crumble after our general dies?

4 Are there any unmentioned rules?

5 Is the Dread Abyssal a mount option for anyone else?

6 Any changes to existing units?

7 Any restrictions on what items we can take?

8 Does the casket stack with a hierotitan, and the mortis engine?

9 Is it true that LoUD can heal vampires more than one wound?
1. The main thing to remember is that VC and TK CANNOT take Nagash; This is a brand new army called Legions of Undead, that borrows from both TK and VC. So if you play an Undead Legions army, completely forget about VC or TK rules, except for Unstable, apparently. To answer some of your other questions...

2. It is strongly suggested to take LoV because it has (better) wound regeneration, especially for characters. As far as NEED, yes. As far as HAVE TO, no. You can combine the lores however you like. in the WD batrep, Nagash player said he should have taken LoV, which means you don't have to take any specific lore. However, Nagash HAS to tak Ryze-the Grave Call as one of his rules.

6. I haven't seen any unit changes, but have seen character changes, like Arkhan, Mannfred, and Krell. There may be others.

8. I don't know if the Hierotitan stacks becaue I don't play TK, but the ME does stack for at least Regen, and I would say that also does.

Amend: I thought that I posted this long ago, but apparently not. So it's not really ninja, as FAIL. Hope at least something is relevant.

Also, some people were talking about the trouble reconciling the aesthetics of the Tomb kings with the gothic looks of Vampire Counts... I think I've hit upon an idea that will help make my Tomb King's more gothic looking and fit more into my VC look. It will be quite a project but I intend to add robes to them (a la Dark Angels marines). It's not completely out of order that TK would wear robes, and robes almost by nature are gothic, particularly in a monastic style. My TK troops I intend to be Rasetran, so I hope to sculpt them with scales, and use Cold Ones for the chariots. I intend to go archer heavy as VC have no shooting whatsoever. Plus a standard RYZE has just enough pts limit to raise a unit of 8-10 archers.

All these new hats look the same! They are not anything special and they look this stove pipes with bones :P

and I have to agree that they look really unbalanced, I will be doing the same as you with a scenic base and a different pose for them!

I also got my book this afternoon but took a different approach to Malisten and still half way through the background book.

For those that asked earlier Mortarchs are not another name for the 9 Dark Lords. The Dark Lords were his old servant of which only Arkhan, Krell and Neferata exist and also became part of the new Mortarch fellowship.

How did you get your books "today" when they are released tomorrow, unless some of you are in Australia...

From Bram over at warseer

Nagash is reborn into the body of Volkmar. Morgiana le Fay is killed in the process, she's the daughter of the Lady of the Lake, one of the Elves lesser gods - Ladrielle. Nagash's plan wsa to free Shysh from the Vortex and bind it to himself to become an avatar of death, strong enough to challange the Chaos Gods themselves.

Another important sacrifice is Aliathra, supposedly daughter to Finubar and Alarielle. Nagash needs devine blood (Volkmar having that of Sigmar) However, she's not Finubar's daughter, but Tyrions. Therefor Nagash cannot draw upon the strength of Assuryan, but instead inherits the curse of Aenarion. It turns out that Teclis has willingly sacrificed Aliathra to rebirth Nagash into the World to fight Chaos. He's conspireing with someone calling him nephew to destabilize the Vortex.

Elthrarion is slain by Arkhan, along with Bellanaer of Hoeth. The Elven Princess Eldyra is indeed turned into a vampire.

WTF?! Teclis gives up Tyrion's daughter?!! That's absurd. He loves his brother. GW...what a bunch of %^$#@ lore breakers! And who is Eldyra?

Anybody found a way they've reconciled my question about the Books? The books make him cast 9 spells, correct? Acrually, lemme just quote it:

So help me out here. The Books allow Nagash 9 spells, one of which is always Raze. Nagash is also a lvl 5.

Say, some Item killing thing happens to him. 9 spells gone. But being a lvl 5, is he capable of casting 14 spells before some Elf unmakes his Books? What kinda wizard can't cast for donk after his items crap out on him? I'd like to think those WD write ups will be tightened by the time the campaign book drops.

Being a level 5 wizard he will know 5 spells standard. The books would boost that by 4 so if his arcane item somehow gets "unmade" (how?) he might lose 4 spells.

Return of Nagash was great! Not only do we see POV from Vampires but others from Elves to Skaven.

We also get alot of Vampire lore.

Especially concerning the age and identities of both Vlad and Mannfred...it seems he never trusted Neffy and tried to warn Ushoran.

It seems to indicate Zacharias the Everliving may be Wsoran and that Abs was the one to seal at least Nagash's staff in Bretonnia.

Zacharias as Wsoran? I would think Melkior, lunatic though he was, might have noticed, since he murdered Wsoran and took Zacharias as his apprentice.

In Master of Death, when Melkhior kills W'soran, W'soran somehow transfers his soul into Melkhior and posseses him. So it's entirely possible he does the same again to Zacharias.
