I
Your right, it's odd they did away with them being vp and just made them special rules. Quite disappointed with the vampire progenitor, thought neferata deserved a bit more.
I suspect it is because they want the TK people that don't want the VC core/special/rare models to still be able to buy the new mortarchs.. And it is easier to call ASF, ASF than quickblood..

Plus it might enable them to change the names/VP's in a 9th VC book.

Although your guess is as good as mine!

If it does just turn out to be kemler that will be pants.
On an unrelated note why do none of the vampire mortarchs have vampiric powers? :o
Honestly, if Kemmler is still alive (just finished chapter 1 and he seems dead so far!), I'd like to see him pop in the End Time Chaos book as a Chaos follower! That would be an interesting twist of event, and I think a first for a special character to switch army :)

Regarding the absence of Vampiric powers, they didn't include them so that you have the full rules of the Mortarch without referring you to another book. So they renamed a few of those powers instead of saying to check P.61 of the VC book for the full rules.

If you are actually going to play games with the new optional rules and army list then you might as well use Storm of Magic scrolls of summoning. A Chaos War Mammoth could crush Nagash easy for half his points.

Unless he speedbumps it and moves away

A Chaos War Mammoth can't raise the equivalent of an entire army on its own during the battle. THAT's why Nagash is twice the cost. And he can easily earn back his points value through units summoned onto the table.

In fact just with 3 successful RYZEs alone, that's 900pts onto the table and he's earned back 9/10s of his value just with the boosted version of the signature spell.

Also: any leaks yet on this weeks White Dwarf and next weeks new releases? Nagash, the Mortarchs, the Spirit Host and the Morghasts were all shown quite early on so we knew they were going to be the first few releases, but from here on it's into the predictive darkness as it were. Will it be more surprise undead (PLASTIC BLOOD KNIGHTS PLEASE) or will be follow on to the new Chaos or other races releases?

regarding summoning back chrs points values, dont forget that its at the cost of other spells they could be casting, its not like its free points to cover the cost only

Rumour has it that 40k is getting an update soon (maybe Dark Eldar) and that the next Nagash book will be after that release.

If true I will quite happily take a staggered release format with one 40k followed by one from WFB. It certainly beats the 'all 40k' summer we pretty much had.

Dark eldar? I heard it was space hulk re-release?

What I'm not understanding about Nagash's return, is that he needed divine blood, and wanted it through the high elf princess.

However, even though the everchild did not have asyurans blood, did she not have isha's via her mother? so why did the ritual not work perfectly?

Confirmed by who? naftka? Or 40k radio? If it's not a GW teaser, I won't believe it.
Many were the times when I got chills from "Bretonnia is next!Bretonnia in March!Bretonnia coming!Bretonnia is sure to be next! Bretonnia in July! 9th edition around the cornern!OMG 9TH EDITION TOMORROW AT 9!!!". All lies.
Until GW releases a teaser and/or WD images, we cannot know what is next.

Screaming skull catapult is temporarily out of stock on the GW website. I wonder if this could mean we will be getting a new plastic kit for it/ updated? The current one is resin which imho is a pain in the ass. A plastic kit would be awesome. If it was a new model to match the aesthetic of Nagah's undead legion that would be even more awesome.

In case anyone was curious to the identity of the nine mortarchs (not sure if it has been mentioned)
-Mannfred
-Vlad (was promised the resurrection of Isabella)
-Nefereta (Promised a Reborn Lahmia)
-Arkhan
-Krell
-Dieter Helsnicht (Powerful Necromancer)(Jumped at the opportunity to learn from Nagash)
-Luthor Harkon (Vampire Pirate King of the Vampire Coasts) (Accepted the job "because he was bored")
-Walach Harkon (Leader of the Blood Knights) (Accepted for chance for glorious battle)
-"The Nameless" (The spirit of a once-great enchanter, offered its service on the condition that Nagash restored its memory)

The other two candidates (Zacharius, the former student of the Necrarch Melkior, and Dietrich von Dohl, Crimson Lord of Sylvania) were magically destroyed by Nagash, because Zacharius dared to think himself Nagash's equal, and Dietrich was stupid enough to make demands of Nagash in return.

Mmmm, "the nameless" sounds like Ushoran.... his memory restored. Ushoran was always the one not to get noticed by Nagash. He is also the one that actually killed Nagash the first time....

If Zacharius is Melkhiors former student then it might be W'Soran, since Melkhior is W'Soran. Maybe he transferred his soul and will into Zacharius, hence the thinking to be Nagash's equal (he shouldve known better)
I know nothing of Dietrich von Dohl.

The current best guess as to the nameless' s identity is constant drachenfels, based on some of the language used to describe it (a great enchanter), the powers it displays (mastery over the minds of the living more so than over the bodies of the dead), its sheer potency (vlad considers it more powerful than himself), and its personality and behavior (extremely petty, & capricious, revelling in the cruelty, suffering and indignities it can inflict upon others). Ushoran would be somewhat more dignified, I'm not sure vlad would consider ushoran more powerful than himself, and i certainly doubt ushoran would have the particular powers of enchantment that the nameless displays.
