Yes, but their Hierophant is not the army general, and not someone who is best off killing the strongest enemies in close combat. Which is the point...

Khemri doesn't suffer crumbling even close to the VC scale, due to the fact that they can still use the 12" Ld of their general.

My first post on this forum, ant time for some thoughts:

Miniatures in general: I´m pretty exicted about what I´ve seen so far; the Grave Guard look great, the vargulf is a cool addition to the army (although I still can´t quite get over the fact that they are called "wolfwolfs"...). Mannfred is nice detail-wise, even though he both has a pose similar to Archaon and looks a bit >too<armoured, even under the aspect of the more unified bloodlines. I can´t wait to see the new Ghouls and the other goodies!

Changing the bloodline system doesn´t bother me all too much; as long as I can still equip my beloved Necrarch true to style I´m happy. Creating more unusual combinations of powers looks interesting, although I fear that it leaves open a door for beardy combinations. Then again, you can make un-fun armies out of any given army book, so while this will surely cause some whinning as usual at first, I don´t think that it will really be a problem.

Ghouls? New miniatures sound good (although I pretty much like the current ones), but R-n-F? It´s one of those points that remind me of the first undead book, but I don´t think that it will really work in today´s game anymore. Hope they at least retain poisoned attack; but I would rather give up that and keep them skirmishers.

Wraith units? Both yay and nay. Again, a memory of past games, but does that mean that there will be no more Wraith heroes? Can banshees only be fielded as unit champions or also as in the current book? I would hate to loose the flexibility of fielding a Banshee or two, and I just have too many miniatures of them to just place them in units (which look like a real point grave at the moment - not that anything is wrong with a grave in a vampire army, but you know what I mean).

The changes in how the Necromancers are used looks like making sense ingame, although I must admit that I still mourn the passing of the liches, and now this... still, I think this should work out well for the new army.

The Black Coach has been tweaked a lot since it´s first appearance, and although I like the miniature, I´m still not (and have never been) convinved of its actual gaming value. Let´s wait and see how it handles in its newest incarnation.

Oh boy, am I looking forward to the new plague cart! I still have the old one lying around (the one with the Wraith and the undead bull), and I always loved its background. Besides, I can´t wait to see all those Zombinesse (got to love Zombies).

Whichbrings me to... Zombies! Cheaper? Good! Weaker? Ah well, nevermind! Can´t pursue? Actually not a good thing, I have hunted down a fair number of elite units of other armies with them. No Characters? Now, THAT is a problem - a unit of Zombies with a Wraith in its front rank has helped me on many occasions, guess I will have to change that then.

Overall, I´m really positive about the upcoming book, even though I´m not a fan of all changes. It is still not as drastic as splitting up Vampires and TKs all those years back, so I think I´ll get along... now, when can I preorder my book and army box? :-)

Not really, if you read the round-up you'll see that we can buy 100 points of vampiric powers and 100 points of magic items. So 200 all in all.

*jaw-drop*
All I can say is if anyone knows what´s good for em, stay away from vampires. I predict some seriously hardcore configs once people get the feel of the new book. It will of course cost alot but... it´s going to be hell to bring them down. Not doomsaying here, havent even seen the items/powers yet so it might not be that bad.

Regardless, the more I see and hear the more interesting the book sounds.

Oh and I agree, while being easier to kill the loss of the hierophant isnt as hurtful as the loss of a vampire... infact as a TK player you should be prepared for the fact the hierophant might bite it in the end game.

First of all: HE are released in Spain on November the 10th CONFIRMED BY WHITE DWARF MAGAZINE nothing about December (I got spanish edition last tuesday) and if the rumours about the VC were dropped by HE in the queue of releases are true, added to the fact that we have some models (vargulf and mannfred) it seems understable that VC could come sooner (anyways, I prefer waiting a bit and having better rules)

Second: next army is WH40000k orks on January (they look great)

Third: today is my birthday :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Fourth: All this rumours about VC are making me crazy!!!!! I WANT THEM RELEASED NOW!!!!!!! all these expectatives are so... ehem... I'm starving for news...

On the KotBK, I'm not too concerned actually. To me, they sound like Kroxigors with +1M and armour, not at all too worrying actually. Vargulfs are nastier.

The pics of Mannfred taken in Essen say he comes out in march, so I´d bet that the army book will arrive aroudn the same time.

Only 4 months to wait (october is as good as over, and march doen´t count since it´s most likely being released at the beginning of the month - there might be some advanced soecial offers which give you the book even sooner than that, too)

Indeed, and frenzy could be very annoying for such an expensive unit but then again we got cheap wolves to help out there.
I´ve longed for the use of some kind of monster in the VC army list. The Vargulf really looks like it will fill that role perfectly.

Infact looking over at warseer there are alot of interesting new things I think will spice up the VC list. The more interesting aspect is the character selection. Just a single vampire as a lord choice and no more thralls, among many other things. Vamps and necros having a different line of spells and so on.

Cheers

:| wait, no thralls? i thought they were trying to make vampires more important? making vampires unavailable under 2000pts (unless you take KotBK, but they sound a bit too expensive for small battles) hardly seems to achieve that ;)

+2 move actually. Which is a +4" charge zone, which is a huge difference in a game.
Do you know something about Vargulfs that we don't, like WS, A, S and point costs? 'Cause without that, it's pretty much anyones guess how good/sucky they will be.

Greater nightmares are mounts with S4 but they do not get ethereal movement like their lesser brethen do.
BTW I can try to describe the Von C. models I know of (mind you, I didn't actually see the minis, they were described to me):
-Vlad has a flowing cape, like he was standing in a storm and he imperiously thrusts his hand forward with the Carstein ring in great evidence.
-Konrad has two hand weapons, and he licks the blood dripping from one. What's really remarkable about this model is his cape though. It starts as a mundane cape but then it flows into a bat swarm taking flight...

As these info do NOT come from the GDs themselves but rather from people who had the chance to see the new models I trust the informats but a degree of caution should be advisable, IMHO.

A little snippet about the other von Carstein models. By god it sounds good. I can't wait to see them.

Please do not repeat the false rumour that Thralls are gone. This is based upon someone looking in the back of the rulebook and not seeing an entry for them. It is NOT based on anything concrete, and should be ignored.

I know they'll be M9 and on 40x40 bases (which ususally means at least 3 attacks and Wounds). Are KotBK unbarded? That's prety weird..

Ah, good to hear then. Rumours be rumours as they say.

These Vargulfs are they supposed to be units a la ogre-style or single monsters?

Krox are only M5 which is why NIB assumes KoBK to have 2" more movement, which makes sense.

I did hear from somewhere that Vargulfs are lone creatures- someone else retorted that this would be silly as we already have a rare lone model (The Banshee). However, since Banshees are no longer lone choices (Unless units of Wraiths are 1+ and can consist of a lone Wraith upgraded to a Banshee) then this means that the Vargulf probably will be by itself.

Kroxs only M5?!

I thought they were just as fast as Skinks (and everything else on 40x40 bases for that matter).

Anyhow, even lone Vargulfs are going to be rockhard. Therë are few things that can outcharge it and I bet it's going to be able to pack a punch as well.

i've noticed that the model of the vargulf is plastic (at least the photo is) so its im guessin that theyll be in units (small like ogres) just my opinion but seems wierd to have it pastic WOO if im right cus im a bit tipsy

I guess that uis just the usual resin mock-up, I´d expect them to be in metal when they are being released.

It's not a plastic model in the photo. It's a resin master model. Most likely, the released model will be metal.

Umm apologies, Kroxigor are actually 6" like you said. I think I had Wood Elves on the brain and was thinking of Treekin at the time (40mm infantry that do move 5")...

Yeah, I hade them on 5" move too, my bad. But provided that KotBK will be on cavalry bases, they pack a lot more punch in a smaller area.

Was just looking through the Designer's Notes for the 6th ed VC book witten by Alessio way back in UKWD256 (also available here: http://uk.games-workshop.com/vampirecounts/designers%2Dnotes/). Provided the above rumours are true, I find it interesting that the 7th ed book will be directly contradicting many of Alessio's original ideas. Some examples:

"one thing I did not like about the old Bloodline system was that Vampires from different lines had the very same stat-line and options. The only difference amongst them was the access to different powers, but if the player decided not to buy any and spent his points elsewhere, a Blood Dragon was exactly the same as a Carstein or, even worse, a Necrarch Vampire. I decided then that Vampires of each Bloodline should start with unique powers and weaknesses that distinguished them from the others. For example, all Necrarchs now have lower WS than other Vampires, to represent that they are more like wizards than warriors. On the other hand, their necromantic powers are the strongest"

"I've made the powers less unbalancing altogether by making the points spent on powers count towards a Vampire's maximum magic items allowance. This stops people massing a huge amount of Bloodline powers and magic items on the same model and forces players to actually make a choice between the two"

(about ghouls) "They used to be another block of unbreakable troops, making them a bit too similar to Skellies and Zombies for my taste. I thought that, being a pack of feral scavengers, they would behave more like… skirmishers! Yes, they had to be skirmishers. That represents better my idea of what a group of Ghouls would do on a battlefield: scuttling along the flanks of the army in the cover offered by woods and other difficult terrain, jumping on small units of weak troops and running from blocks of ranked enemies"

My gut feeling is that in some respects it will be a bit of a shame to go back on these 6th ed ideas. However, I do like the idea of having a larger pool of bloodline powers to choose from simply because it'd give me the option of fielding my 'traditional' Lahmian or coming up with a real nasty combo for competitive games. With regard to the ghouls, it has been rumoured tht the Undead rule will apply to the entire army and therefore small units of skirmishers will be far too easy to crumble. For the same reason I am worried bout the rumour of a skirmishing Wraith unit. Let's just hope that the Ethereal (or some other special rule) makes up for this.

However Ghouls are no longer skirmishers it seems... wierd but well, might be nice if they actually add something new other than what the skeletons, zombies or GG already do. If the undead rule applies to whole army, that would be a shame. I´m quite fond of my ghouls but since they most likely will get ranked up.

Change is good though especially since I´ve been wanting some kind of undead beast in the VC list and the Black Coach just dont cut it. The new units all of them infact is quite interesting(Knights of the BK, bone cart, wraith unit) along with the new lore between vamps and necros.
All of this makes me turn back to VC(eventually when the book return).
Now I just have endure a winter more before it finally arrives.

Cheers
