I didn't. I originally had Undead back in 5th ed. and then started a Vampire list as soon as they became seperate. Currently I use both.

initially it was due to zombie hordes as i'm a huge romero fan. it was my first fantasy army and since then i've been spoiled to how pwoerful the vampires are i keep looking at other heroes and lord and be like wth only S4? lol

Better background, cooler models, nastier unit choices and combinations, devastating close combat units, truly evil magical spells, the ability to march, a whole variety of shambling, rotting, fearless, killing machines..... Whats not to love?!!!
Besides, I hate sand....

Vampire Counts are evil and are the nastiest army around. Power, magic, undead... everything rocks.
That's why they're my favourite army, love 'em.
I do like very much Tomb Kings too, maybe sometime... who knows? I could be playing both undead forces...

i chose the vc because they are far superior, plain and simple. i see tomb kings and i think eh:rolleyes: then i see vampire counts and i think THEY WILL BE MINE!

Tk i love fluff and model wise, but rules wise they pale in comparison to VC, soon as they are able to raise easier with mages which arnt double a necromancer i will proberbly convert my whole army :)

I already had quite a few models of the Vampire counts when I picked up the game again in 5th edition and started collecting more focused.
As Tomb kings came out, I felt a bit sad, seeing how they stand closer(in armylooks perhaps) to Nagash and their history was flufwise way more interesting, not to mention..artillery!(Wish we had some), But stuck to my vampires nonetheless since I already had a headstart in models there, and experience in battles soon after.

Well for one the TK have (to me) the most dull visual theme for any warhammer army. It's just dry and desert and brown and more dry. The units all look similar and I think it has very poor 'hobby stats'. Gamewise they all look similar, even though they may vary, TKs are just... TKs.

Vampire Counts of the other hand, are just so chillingly brilliant  The whole idea of raising the dead to fight for you(contrary to drag them out of their niches in a pyramid), the variation in armies gamewise, the vast converting and painting possibilities, the fluff value of Vampires and Necromancers rising from normal humans to their immortal states... it's just ace :D I could go on but you get my point.

I originally played the TK, but the enitire character behind the VC is amazing. I enjoy the gothic, dark, and evil theme behind the army most esecially the haughty and arrogant vampires themselves. And apparently "According to Russian lore, a child born on December 24 shall be a werewolf"(Wikipedia), so I'm sure that has something to do with my attraction towards the VC. Beyond the army's ambiance, the VC are a powerful army game wise.

Fluff and the stories basially and I've always loved vampires :D
I loved the Necrarchs and Von Carsteins especially =]

Necrarchs have the evil loner type with epic magical abilities but not so great combat abilities
Whilst
Von Carstiens are the true nobles of the night :D

Two completely awesome factions in one army :D

I went vampire counts simply because they have more variety of models.

All Tk's have is pretty much bone warriors, bone heroes and more bone warriors which is just too boring for me. Also i love painting blood---> looks cool and makes painting zombies faster as you can cover up mistakes with red splashes easily:cool:

I chose both! :D TK has this mysterious charm to them, and the models are much better, even though they are limited to skeletons as their core infantry/cavalry units. Their special units totally kick ass, and the Bone Giant is fantastic.

Vampire Counts are convertable, they've got Vamps and Necros, and are cool in their own way. Love the Wights too, GG and BK. It comes up pretty even.

Well there where no Tomb Kings when I began in 5th edition so the choice was made for me :). Still vampire counts had a better atmosphere about them and a stronger diversity between models. This is quite important for me if I have to paint up an entire army!

Mainly, I went for Vampire Counts over Tomb Kings because of the fact that in my honest opinion Tomb Kings lack so much character when they are put into comparison with Vampire Counts. Also, honestly I cannot see myself just pushing bones around on a table. :)

for me its a mix of fluff, playing style and basic appearence. even ignoring the wfb fluff and such, this sinister contrast of a perfectly immaculately dressed man or woman, quite at home in the court of some great king or queen or at some burgois shindig, and the shambling, indefatigable horror's they lead against those upon whom they rely for survival; the shear contradiction implicit in what a vampire is, really speaks to me. the anime hellsing (which by avatar's alone i know your familiar with hehe) describes it perfectly, they are almost childlike, alone in the dark, screaming out for someone to kill them, but they cant let someone unworthy do it.

and ofcourse the terrible concept of fighting an enemy face to face, and then turning to find your own lost relatives crawling from their graves to bring you to yours, is undeniable for me.

ill stop gushing now hehe

I just looked both army books down at the local gw, and decided that vampires are much cooler than mummies. Still kinda pissed that Nagash is no longer around, and where are necromancer now? kemmler? anyone other that just some apprentice driving spare parts for skellies =)

I've heard a rumor that they are coming back, maybe in time for a summer campaign.

As for me, I picked up a copy of this fellow at Gen Con one summer:

When I found out there was an army I could use it in...

Plus at that time there were no Tomb Kings yet.

Mostly it was when I played against a vampire count guy as dwarves and he wouldnt stop pulling undead out of the ground thats what got me started afterward I simply looked through the army books i loved the idea of heroes that utterly destroyed in close combat and coul also use magic oh and i liked the ZOMBIESSSS

im new by the way, but the reason i chose the vc over the tk is that i liked how the vc army worked and all the summoning new units where the tk can only rebuild units. also vampires are much cooler than dessicated dry mummies!

I've liked the much more "gothic" feel of the vampires. More dark and sinister feeling than the "bags of bones" that are in the tomb kings army. That and the fact that I'm much more of a fan of a preroman european feel (thus my love of skeletons and wights), as opposed to the whole "pseudoegyption" thing.

Definitely the heroes and the heavy cavalry/infantry; the only other armies I would ever play except for VCs would be Warriors of Chaos and Lizardmen.

Can't get enough of those Grave Guard!

Also, I hated the idea of having one of those idiotic Liche Priests in my army.

And the Tomb Guard models are epic fail compared to the Drakenhof Guard.

And no army has anything with an awesomeness level comparative to Blood Knights. And Bretonnia should be Gaze of Nagash'd repeatedly in the head.

And the Varghulf is the best single model unit outside of characters in the game. (Except for that time when he got taken down by one unit of Glade Guard...)

And what other army can have a unit that charges 18", has a 2+ armour save, a 4+ ward against shooting and Regeneration, plus 5 attacks each at S7 on the charge?

And what army can have a Hero-level character that can theoretically kill 20 guys?

Need I continue?
