VC vs TK: why did you go for the Vampires?

I chose VC over TK because I like the image of the dark nobility, which I think Vampires depict more so than mummies. I also like that VC still use living troops, ie ghouls and necromancers. It just seems practical for a group infiltrating civilization. Why limit yourself to the dead?

Lastly... no, not a zombie fan, sorry... but Ghouls!!! Degenerate cannibals who worship dark and unspeakable powers. Very Lovecraftian.

I didn't!

I already have a nice TK army that focuses on Chariots and monsters, giving me a nice, quick moving, hard hitting force. They do pretty well for themselves too!

I had always liked the Egypt theme more than the traditional vampiric, though I think it really just is I don't like most of the actual vampire models. The main thing, however, is while I love my fast moving, elite mummies, I want a more horde-esque army. Also, and army that grows as it marches is a fun thought, and Ethereals are awesome. The fact I could have a Spectral Form character is what sold me, though! Hence... the ghost king!

because vampires are cool immortal super powerful can fit in with the rest of the world but turn uber ugly and powerful when mad perfect like a blood thirsty hulk which know that i write it sounds good for a conversion with the new damon prince.

Vampires, skeletons, zombies, undead galore!!! The fluff is also a big factor. In truth, as soon as I heard there was an army with vampires and undead I was sold right there, my friend told me about TK too, but nothing popped at me. I like the raising the dead as well, raising up some meat shields to protect me from charges and such is always useful.

Because vampires and Tomb kings are boring and not aestetically pleasting and vampires also i like the look of vampire counts and did i mention vampires.

Vampires:suck:.......simple as xD

Although I do like Tomb Kings, but only because they can shoot, and that's why I quit 40k....too much shooting.

Pluss I REALY do prefer shambling hordes of zombies and ancient skeletonsto the organised ranks of undead egyptian like warriors.

Plus the Vampire models look that much cooler xD

I have recently changed from only vampires to also fielding a burrow king army(tomb king rules) As a revivial of my full undead army as it was when nagash walked the world. I miss that army and have since it was disbanned. After a night of inspiration I know have a fully undead army in the works same color scheme but anything undead. The Rise of the burrow kings of old. Anyways just wanted to comment here.

I am sure you mean Barrow king. I did a similiar mix-up with the Banner of Barrows. Banner of Burrows xD

Burrow King, hm? An insect vampire... Hmmm, why not. We've got the Carrion Kings(which pretty much is just that). Which incidently suits perfectly for such a theme. Sorry for the pun but it segwayed so perfectly into actual fluff I had to do it. It used to be one of my ideas for a synced VC/TK army(and my VC models still have a heavy influence of nehekharan armour and weaponry so might be possible). Errm, I'm rambling now.

As I've made adamantly clear in this thread I cannot ever decide on which army I like the most. Keeps shifting, back and forth.

Easy, have you read read any of the Vampire Genevieve books? Nuff said

Although I will now carry on to say a lot more... (sorry).

I don't only play VC, I also collect Skaven and Wood Elves (and I'm seriously thinking about Warriors of Chaos...). I was suckered into a new army to go along with the launch of the new WH - and it wasn't even a close run thing between TK and VC. I wanted something with more character and more magic so it was really between LM or VC - and let's face it, Vampires are just cooler.

My first Warhammer army, back in the dusty days that other people have referred to where there was just one rule book and you made your army from that, was undead. Great first time army as the early plastic skeleton sets were a doddle to paint and get ready very quickly. They have always summed up for me what the Warhammer world is about. Empire, Warriors of Chaos, Bretonnia are all basically people. Mention 'Fantasy' and dwarfs and elves will normally crop up - the undead, crawling out of the ground, dusting themselves off and marching on the nearest village has always been a great image for me.

Oh, all of the above and the almost limitless possibilities for conversions... I love the deliberately vague descriptions in the army book - they might as well have an advert for green stuff underneath some of them.

Let's face facts: the Vampire Counts are just waaaayy cooler than Tomb Kings. TK's are dry piles of bones who stay in their pyramids most of the time. VC's are the rulers of the night; loved by women, feared by men. Party all night, sleep all day. the Vampire Counts are the rock stars of the warhammer world. Would you prefer to be Bela Lugosi as Dracula, or Boris Karloff as the Mummy? Its not even close!

I started with TK, but I fell for the aristocracy of the night the first time I saw Konrad Von Carstein. And as always, the VC have way more character than the TK and the way they raise the dead enemys in the middle of a battle to attack there living "friends"

There's just something so magical about Vampires. And not in the "sparkling'" sense. I mean like a powerful creature of darkness who leads his undead hordes into battle, his (or her) mouth gleefully dripping with blood. Vampires just have an unbeatable coolness factor.

I also like how our army works, more so than any other. The ability to field characters who are both skilled casters and warriors at the same time is practically unique to our army. Not to mention the fact that Vampires typically strike fear into the hearts of their enemies...literally. Whenever I play, my opponent ALWAYS keeps tabs on where my Lord is and where the Thralls are bunkered, and there's a slight twinge of terror in his eyes whenever one gets into combat. You never know what to expect from them. You could engage a Lord in CC, only to discover that he's just a level 4 wizard with some extra survivability and cool items. Or he could just tear through your whole unit...by himself. :konrad:

Sure, the 8th edition hit us hard. But I love my Vampires. And they will NEVER sit "on the shelf."

I think that alot more ppl relate to VC as they have a more well known fluff and the idea of vampires etc most people find fascintaing where as mummy's etc just don't have that wow factor IMHO.
Plus they look alot better and have a better play/magic style about them.

I do miss having my Vampires supported by units of Mummy's tho, that was quite fun.

I chose Vampires for a couple of reasons. one is that they have fewer Metal models that I would have to be using, (although I do intend to use the TK cavalry as Black knights....) but also the idea of having a bloodsucking vampire as your leader. I find the models are also just more complete.

I don't really like the whole Egyptian them the TK have going.:.
same with me and like the idea of having more unit than start with and vampire to lead them.
I also prefer the VC models over TK one as look more like undead sterotype and after doing Empire gunline shooting phase isn't that important 2 me

Vampire Counts has the better models, I love how the Skeletons, Grave Guards and Cairn Wraiths look. I like Sylvania as an environment a hell lot more than I like a boring and droll desert. And since you can customize your vampires alot I just had to go for VCs. I've always loved those gritty undeads. Besides, TKs are neutral while VCs are bad - bad as in badass - why go for anything else?

I actually started off with tomb kings but i had barely bought one unit when i realized that all i would be painting was a sea of bone, endless bone, and i get bored easily anyway .
Whereas vc offers a much broader spectrum and the whole concept appealed to me more anyway. Although it would be good to have some skeleton archer units in vc, all i have to do in the shooting phase is think nasty thoughts.

Hmm, I liked the miniatures. I'm not one for evil armies usually (my VC army will be a force of good!), but I do so enjoy the VC skeleton models!

One of the first real books I read was Bram Stoker's Dracula, and since then I've been secretly hooked to Vampires. As fictional characters they have so much potential, much more than being bloodsucking monsters. They're just cool.

Still, the most frightening creature I've seen in a horror flick must be the zombie. I like both the classic Romero-type and the newer, faster and more fierce, zombie from 28 Days Later.

VC army has both Vampires and Zombies so my choice was clear. Mummies and Skeletons just don't appeal to as much. Perhaps they lack a "human" side which is more visible in Vampire Counts.
