Hey guys,
been a long time since I've been here due to a number of reasons. First one is that I've started in a new school (I now study Digital Arts and Entertainment) which has provided me with a whole shedload of work, so I don't have much time to paint minis anymore. On top of that I've had some wrist problems due to working 24/7 with a bad computer mouse, but that has since been solved.

Anyway, some of my classes require me to design stuff in photoshop and since we've left the basics behind I thought I'd post some of my stuff here. I know it's not miniature painting, but it's close enough. (If this thread doesn't belong here, please move it mods :) ).

Spaceship:

Pretty basic. Not happy with how it turned out.

Robotic arm thumbnails:

ai31.photobucket.com_albums_c364_WolfFang007_Art_tumbscopy.webp

We had to design a robotic arm with at least 3 segments and had to draw some sideviews and colour tests of it. Rough sketching mostly done in photoshop.

Robotic arm perspective view (WIP):

Parspective view of one of the above mentioned thumbs. Still lacking detail and some structural parts, but it will be finished by next week.

I would very much appreciate some constructive criticism which I know you guys can give. :)

Cheers, Wolfie

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

I'm exremely impressed :|. How did you draw that? With a digital pen (I love those).

The only thing I can think of this far is the smoothness of the jagged spike. I also think you should add some un-lacquered metal to it (or the paint would chip off) just for realism.

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

It's impresive you can draw all that in a computer program. I'd like some backgrounds where you could put your drawings in to make them look more alive. You're skilled I must say.

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

Thanks guys. I used a Wacom tablet to draw that (it's not mine, I use one of the tablets provided by school.). The perspective view is still WIP as I've only finished the casing so far. I still have to add chips and scratched metal + add wiring and hydraulics. I'm kind of flumoxed by the spikes as it's really hard to know how the light will fall onto them and to distinguish the form from it's surrounding without using lines.
Anyway, thanks for the comments so far and keep 'em comming.

Cheers, Wolfie

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

Finished painting of the robotic arm. Not enough contrast, the shadow was don in a hurry and is wrong and the blending could be better, but overall I'm quite pleased. This was never supposed to be anything more than a slightly improved thumbnail, so some faults don't really matter.

As always comments and criticism are appreciated.

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

Thanks mate, it's not as difficult as you might think though. Once you figure out the basics of light, perspective and colour, it's really rather easy. And it's not that difficult to learn those either. :)
Anyway, pics of my exam assignment is comming soon. It's the first levelconcept of a computer game we have to develop by the end of next year. :)

Cheers, Wolfie

BTW, Josef, I haven't really had time yet to work on the heraldry, but once my exams are finished I'll get to work on those. :)

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

One of the houses I have to make for my exam 3D. Bit boring and it isn't textured yet, but most of the modelling itself is done. :) Low poly modelling so not to much detail.

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

The entire shape looks strange to me. It looks something like a single box with a garage on the side, and in my opinion that's... boring. Unless it's designed to fit between two buildings, you should add something more to it.

Edit: I think it might help if you shortened the garage a tiny bit, making it somewhat shallow (large flat walls doesn't always look good...)

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

Well it is actually designed to fit between other buildings. I still have to make one or two extra houses. Didn't just want to make a row of 3 boring houses, so I decided to make rainpipes, which meant I needed space for them. Hence the garage. There's actually quite a lot of buildings like that round here. + it's based on a picture of an existing building (as was the assignment) which makes it kind of hard to make it more interesting that it really is. :)

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

New update. Same house but with textures.

C&C appreciated

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

To be honest, I don't have the time to do that as I had to hand in the assignment yesterday. If I had more time I'd have made it a bit more detailed. :)

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

Heyhey, I'm back (for five minutes at least.) Been a bit busy for the last couple of months writing code for a computer game, but had some time to practice my art skills as well (character design in particular). Did 2 studies of one hour today. In one I tried to get a pale skintone while still having some colour in the cheeks and the other was a speedpainting assignment. (I had to paint a midget version of Hitler dressed casually). I should note I did NOT draw the character that only has his face painted. The original art is by Jens Claessens.

ai31.photobucket.com_albums_c364_WolfFang007_Art_Dwerg.webp

Both were painted in one hour. Please take that into consideration while giving feedback.
C&C appreciated as always.

Some assignments for SubD modelling:

and a WIP of a car I have to model to work in a certain environment. A cookie to the first one who guesses what car it is. (although it is a bit early a real car enthusiast should know what car it is. :D)

As always c&c is appreciated.

RE: Wolfie's school assignments (Photoshop)

Update on the car:
Still have to sort out some non quads, but besides that the basic shell of the body is finished.
ai31.photobucket.com_albums_c364_WolfFang007_3D_SubDCar_1.webp

c&c is appreciated and there's still a zombie to be earned for guessing what type of car it is.

Cheers, Wolfie
