In fairness to AoS, he basically played a dick, a guy who just chucked in the most overpowered characters he could. I've seen better videos that show how bad some of these games have gone.
Have a feeling this video was made by Adam Sinclair, played him once at a tournament and he is a complete gentleman, we ended up drawing but what a laugh the game was, think I voted him favourite player to play against and he returned the favour. One thing I'm confused by though, I thought you could only raise a unit if you already had one unit of that type on the board?
The word dick is being thrown around a lot. I, love dicks just as any other dude, but could we please refrain from intensifying the language? I'm not trying to censor anyone and I do understand that we all have radical feelings about AoS (some of us positive some of us negative) and that is complete A-O-KAY. But I think we all would benefit waaay more from this thread if we all just took a deep breath before ranting
Off with the Mod-hat and on with the AoS-lover-hat: @Demian that sounds like a good way to do it! And yes I have also noticed how the "weak" units (old core units) are significantly stronger when fielded en masse.
I actually kinda thought that the scenario of keeping thatunit alive in that house would have been pretty fun to play... you know if the other guy didn't bring a completely over powered list. When I test ran it the other day (Lizards v. Demons) we aimed to make a fairly balanced game and it worked pretty well!
At any rate, I just got an email. Apparently they're releasing an app to build armies. Maybe this will resolve the problems with making balanced lists?
I hope so. Do you have a link with the info? What's the source?
Anyway, I think AoS would definitely benefit from a structured organisation method. Upon reflection it does seem unrealistic to expect to be able to walk into a GW or club and have a pick up game because you really can't organise a game quickly; that is of course unless the store manager sits down with everyone and comes up with a method of organising games / armies.
That...really sounds awkward, not that I have anything against that kind of thing of course
I shall refrain from using the term too liberally.
I need to think about some house rules for my game, thinking a combo of wounds and limits on characters/units etc should work. Its all about trial and error at the moment I guess.

Nothings free, its just corporate greed, something about something.
Seriously though, it is good to see these guys giving out rules free, having spent over £100 on books its a nice change, but hopefully something more substantial to hold will come out soon.
Not too sure, it was just a pic they used on the app.
The battle app thing is listed as coming soon on the black library site, see the joys of a living rule set that can be tweaked and updated as and when needed!
There's still rumours abound of a large rule book coming. Supposedly both a campaign "expansion" as well as an extension of the rules, a BRB if you will.
The suggestion being that, funnily enough, the starter box contains the basic rules to get people into the game. And that there are more advanced rules coming.
It could be comparable everybody raving and ranting over the quick reference sheet in the Dark Vengeance box.
I believed so as well, but the Lizardmen warscrolls give it some more clarity, since you can summon Named Heroes with their wizards, and since you can't field a named Hero and summon it again, it would imply that every wizard knows all spells in their warscrolls + any summoning spells, even if you didn't field the miniature in the first place.

That's pretty spectacular considering Nagash can cast 3 (+5) spells per turn totalling 8. He could raise an army like that and if your out with 18" with the +3 it's pretty much a gimme .
Nevermind the 18" range to dispel spells, you also need LOS to the casting wizard to dispel it.
So you can hide a cabal of wizards behind a building and just cast away completely unhindered.
Its an official announcement, not a hoax. There going all in on this new system. They have already awarded themselves a golden statue.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather get my pic taken with a golden eternal than with an aged stone space marine
The forthcoming app implies to be the answer to list building. It says "you wont need anything else to play Warhammer, except models and dice".
The concept of balance seems nigh impossible, especially with the summons. But that doesn't mean you should be able to bring 20 hellpit abominations. There can be all kinds of values and balance. If I take Nagash, my opponent should be able to take things that could kill Nagash, etc. The summoning spells are still unclear, you might have to "buy" the spells to use them, or at least only be able to summon more of what you already have. A simple rule such as "you may not have more than one of any scroll per battle" would mean that, you cannot even attempt to summon a daemon prince until the one you brought has perished.
With the fact that summons count against your total lost but not your total starting, summons are a big risk.
A big thing many of us were hoping was, some of this nonsense of end times will make sense when the new edition comes out. Now with AoS its coming true - Blightking/Wrathmongers are appropriately sweet units and the Glottkin can no longer be felled by one spell cast.
All that we know is they made a rule set for a starter box set .. which inst even out yet. These rules are really designed to be played only with that box set. The new scrolls for all armies were probably just released in order to show us in good faith that they are going digital and that nobody is being left out. You're probably just supposed to pick the basic scrolls that they give you in order to start testing out the new system. They probably planned on the app for last Saturday as well but it got delayed (it happens). Its very possible the app has some magically simple way of creating "balanced lists" (as if that ever was, or ever will be a thing).
I think in the next couple weeks we will get barraged with awesome new rules and models until our minds explode and our bank accounts hit zero. I dont think they put out a golden statue to commemorate a new rule system where nothing matters. It seems to me we have just seen the first step of the most amazing tabletop game system ever made, and I cant wait to see what happens when we all reach the top.
Yeah, Nagash can pretty much raise an army on his first turn, unhindered unless the opponent manages to get a wizard within 18" and even then, Nagash has +3 to his casting. What's that? Summon a balewind vortex and get ANOTHER +1 to casting AS WELL as double the range of spells? 36" summoning? Summon 20 Black Knights right onto the opponents flank? Sure!
1. Summon balewind vortex/fulcrum,
2. Summon Morghasts (+1 to all summoning spells, now you're summoning with +5 to your cast)
3. summon zombies (roll a 6 on two dice to summon 40),
4. summon skeletons (again roll a 6 for 40),
5. summon 20 Black Knights,
6. Summon 10 Blood Knights,
7. Summon 10 Spirit hosts,
8. Gaze of Nagash his most powerful unit.
And that's just your FIRST magic turn of the game.
In fact, the only NON douchebag way of fielding Nagash, what with all this talk of balance, is just to field him on his own. Because by the end of his turn he definitely won't be on his own.
@picture: Probably not Sigmar, more like a Lord Celestant on foot or something?
