Dusting this thread off because i've been working on my zombie dragon lately. Spent a lot of time shading the wings and trying to get a good effect ... but it just looked flat.

Not bad, but not what i wanted. Then i took a chance and used blood for the blood god.

VERY nervous about how it was going to turn out, but SCREW IT, i said and dove head-first in. I'm really happy with how the wings turned out! Helps to highlight what's under it and really make an eye popping effect! Lighting is a bit weird here but hopefully you'll see him in some battle reports soon.

just a quick question about the table war case; You buy the case, you buy the trays and then you glue a thin sheet of tin on the trays. After that you have to glue magnets on your models' bases to ensure that everything "sticks" to the tray? Am I correct?

Correct! That's exactly what I did - with one caveat:

I found that superglue wasn't enough to hold the metal-trays inside the indents of the tablewar, plastic trays (they're almost like a frame, with a depression area inside of it - i had my metal trays cut to fit in the indent). The superglue sometimes wouldn't hold well and other times (when it held on the corners) the tray would 'bounce' up slightly in the middle. Superglue didn't seem to just hold it still.

This caused a problem when driving on bumpy roads: the metal-tray would bounce-up a bit and jostle the trays on top. Even though everything was magnetized well, repeated bouncing would shift them and big ol' bumps (on a car with bad shocks) would probably set models free of their base. So to fix this, i mixed up some epoxy and just put a bead where the tray met the plastic. Perma-seal! I didn't have to go all the way around, but just on the 4 corners and mid-way on the long side. Enough to make it immovable.

I also used epoxy to hold the magnets to the bottom of my trays. I found that rare-earth magnets would rip free of the plastic tray if only superglued. So a bit of epoxy to set it in made a permanent bond.

So It's odd to do... Well anything with dwarfs but my father in law brought his army out while visiting. His gyrocoptor broke so I fixed it... Like a boss!

So i haven't posted my work here in a bit. Here's literally everything that's on my table at the moment:

• Dark Elves - Cauldron kit: witch elves, hellebron, cauldron itself, medusa all primed
• Dark Elves - Kharibdyss primed, started painting
• Dark Elves - one unit of Doomfire Warlocks primed
• Misc - trying my hand at creating some balsa wood trays to see how i like them
• Vampires - 95% complete fixing my SHATTERED zombie dragon - just a bit of touch-up paint left.
• Vampires - Terrorgheist needed to be redone: brought up to the new standard the zombie dragon set. I broke it apart and started a full repaint, rebasing.
• Orcs & Goblins - not sure how the Spear Chukka ended up here, but it's in front of me so i'll get to working on it. Making a little unit that holds detachable crew as wound counters (yeah, like it doesn't just blow up every time)
• Dwarfs - magnetizing (see above post) and unwarping the finecast for him while he's visiting.

Beautiful stuff. The colors are wonderfully saturated. Are you using gloss sealer on the wings to get that shine?

Used the new technical paint: Blood for the Blood God. You can definitely get the effect with any number of glosses - but this was easy

Spent a good chunk of the day working on the gyro for my Father-in-Law's birthday present. It's so fun - makes me wish i was playing dwarfs!

Finished up the gyrocopter for my father-in-law and am now working on making bases for my squig herd. Cut a new base from balsa wood, primed, painted, textured and grassed.

Also going to need to touch-up paint and then purity seal the squigs: the metal figures have been chipping as they've bumped each other. Freaking hate pewter figures.

After that, the night goblins and my terrorgheist.

Having trouble being hobby-motivated now that my father-in-law is gone... lost my hobby buddy *tear*

However I have managed (in the last few days) to get the remaining 6 trolls close to looking like my first 3. More shading required but moving along!

Additionally, the TG is now on a base like my ZD. Wings are now converted from black to 'bloody tissue' like the ZD. Have more shading to do but I'm having trouble with that there motivation thing....

Hello aki!Really nice and clean and crisp painting on these models! Only one comment from me just a suggestion (or opinion) the vampire on the zombie dragon (his head) i believe he needs some shadows to look even better everything else is perfect!Keep up the grat work! PS the spider is amazing! her eyes are unreal! (and i hate spiders in real life ;P ) Looking forward to more

Jumping around a bit - Khaine demaned some attention tonight. Did a marbling and now moving to base metals & woods tonight.

Most of the trolls are done and ended up making 4 different movement trays out of balsa wood & texture paint! 3x3, 3x2, 4x2, 6x3 (yey, hoards!) Just have detail work to do ... but i can't summon the strength right now

Today I have repaired all the chips to the freaking metal squigs. Got them for an insanely cheap price compared to the new plastic (or are they finecast?) reproductions, but in like 3 games they had chipped ALL OVER. Repainted and now about to go for a 'ardcoat spray to hopefully avoid this in the future.

Lesson here: pewter sucks.

Have a bit more progress made on the Cauldron, but a few things are getting in the way. 1) new job is awesome, but time consuming 2) I got utterly floored by the Dwarf release pics ... I'm currently deciding between Dark Elves or Dwarfs. I only have like 3 DE pieces, so i could stop where I am, sell these and go all-in on the dwarfs.

I love GW's new weekly-release, but i have to see the rules before i make the decision. Doesn't stop me from obsessing about them and constantly looking at the weekly white dwarf though =)

Excuse the double-post (from show-us your hobby area) but I thought this was applicable for my painting blog.

Meant to post this for a while - here's my current hobby area. It's basically the entire basement save where the 'basement living room' is (TV, etc).

PC, lots of room for all the projects i'm working on and never completing. When people come for paint sessions, i have another curved portion of the desk that i can slide in the end of this to give them a complete desk for work. Thank you, Ikea!

Then, turning your head 90 degrees, I have my gaming side of the basement ... this is going to change when the kid is born! Storage everywhere (since all my friends leave/abandon their armies at my house), board in the middle and figures EVERYWHERE. Cotton on the floor is pretty constant since my dog obliterates all toys.

If you've seen my batReps this should be somewhat familiar!
