I think an interesting question is why would you pick to use kings of war over warthrone when both are in english.

I guess chose the one most supported by your social/gaming group, warthrone isn't ever touched in ours so I would chose KoW.
I've read the rules of kings of war, i just seems like the rules would be better suited to something on a much scale of model (like warmaster), I'm not really a fan of these preset unit sizes and laying down tokens next to units. So if the dioramas are no different to unit fillers, why does it even matter? If the rules didn't matter then I'd be playing AoS.

Thats cool, its all down to personal preference, I enjoy seeing units reduce in size physically too, but at the same time it slows things down and is a bit of a pain in the ass at times.

Any time its easy to remember whats left in a unit I never bothered to actually remove the models anyway. Seemed pointless most of the time, you almost always knew if the unit was breaking that turn or if the number they took barely mattered. So KoW will basically just let me do what I've been doing only I'll actually be following the rules when I do it now.

Yeah, I would have 2 units of 40 zombies and I was constantly taking them out, putting them back in, knocking them over lol, if I was playing my chaos warriors it wouldn't matter, only small units anyway, but it really felt like a pain in the ass with so many skeletons/zombies.

The only thing I don't like in KoW is that there seems to be no light/skirmishing/open formation troops. Apart from that, I love it. Especially the way it scales so easily and glosses over the details that are largely irrelevant anyway (like which individual models get to attack, or exactly how many warriors are left in the unit). I can see playing massive games of KoW being a breeze, unlike large (3,000+) games of WHFB which take the best part of the day.

Could GW even stop the players from making an unofficial list like this? I don't really see how, it's not like they are infringing on rights. They aren't like, taking the IP and making it theirs, it would just be a comparison? I mean they have those list of "old paint" charts, to keep track of which older paints are closest to the new line of paints, and I don't think GW has that tore down at all.

I meant if Mantic posted this list right on their site it might be problematic. A fan made one would probably be fine. Let me know if you find one ;-)

The game has literally just come out in English! how is that even a valid reason?

Some Guy "Wanna try this new game that came out yesterday"
You "Na, it's not supported enough by the group"

I mean really?? How on earth did you guys get to playing KoW? If you don't like it then fair play, it makes zero difference to my life if you play it or not. That said, it doesn't even mean you have to stop playing KoW or buy new models, just simply try something out for free... Just seems a shame that most people are going straight on the KoW band wagon now warhammer has turned into play time.

"can you guess which hand your treeman is in?" :o:|

Hand of dust rocks.....

Hey now, I like play time. I need something like that in my life!

Not to derail the thread, but what is the name of the game you are so interested in? It's slightly on topic, since this is really about alternatives to AoS, kinda. I'm just curious about what it was called again.

Teading through the 2.0 rules...definitely giving this a go. This is what clear and fast rules should look like. Color me impressed!
The fact even more army rules will be released makes it a no brainer for me.

When it comes to actual models; very hit and miss but I can see this improving in the future and, because they din't care which models you use, I will use my old GW supported with Gamezone and the above mentioned AoW. In a way it is liberating, aesthetics have always been important to me and now I can cherry-pick!

I'd never heard of it, I didn't know this, no-one in my group knew about this game. It's not like we decided to not play this game and chose kow over it, it was literally never on our radar.

You never said it was a new game.

For those of us in the wilderness ( no GW store, no FLGS, no model shops at all ) different games become quite problematic. For example ,I appear to be the only person near here who has even heard of MtG, and absolutely no one knows of Malifaux or Dystopian wars. So it is kind of pointless buying into other games if there is no group to meet with. Therefore, it's got to be KoW or WH for us. New Games? hell, I'd be happy to get in a good game of chess! I suppose I could move, but not really practical……..

The magic and especially the faction rules still lack the sort of variety that would keep me interested in a game, unfortunately. Again 'my army is the same as your army, only I have +1 to stat x, while you have +1 to stat y' just doesn't do it for me. I'll take a look again when KoW 3.0 comes out.

I don't know if they changed warmachines. Our faction at least still has no rules for monsters - no zombie dragons or giants or the like, least not that I remember from my quick flip through.

Undead wyrm is the best we get, zombie trolls too. I'm surprised they don't have a generic monster like in kingdom of men.

I missed undead wyrm. So there is that at least.

Easy to miss particular units when they all blend together that way. "unit name, some numbers; unit name, some numbers... etc". Special rules may clutter a system, or make balance harder, but they also make units interesting and factions unique, and as much as I like KoW's core rules for a battle-scale game system, if I can't sink my mental hooks into the mechanical representation of my faction, I just can't get emotionally invested in the game enough to bother. Again, the core rules look nice, but I think this is a game for purer or at least more imaginative gamers than I.

There are rules for an undead wyrm (which can be winged or not) and a zombie dragon, as well as a winged horse.

To be honest, the fact that every faction isn't a collection of special snowflake units with their own special rules is something that really appeals to me about KoW!

I just gonna post my crypt horrors from mantic as a adv for them.
I'm not a great painter but the models are really inspiring, and cheap.
