I don't even..

Your greenstuff work is so.. clean and.. fine, detailed. The little band to hold the armor plates around his leg. I am constantly surprised what people can do with GS. I really need to work on that skill :zombie:

Very great work though!

At least I have a project to practice on (And hopefully not flubb to high-hells), of a similar nature :pumpkin: A poor Empire guy falling to his knees, clasping his ears on the base of my TG, ya know, with the scream thing and all :pumpkin: I thought sculpting a puffy sleeve might be forgiving for a remedial sculptor.

Thanks, practice is the only way to get better! What I can tell you is that the right tools go a long way to get great results, and do not try to make everything at once! Making a smaller section and letting it cure before doing another will save you a lot of troubles and frustrations :)

I have heard, and I've seen a rather impressive range of various tools people use :ghost: I'll need to look into getting a handful to start with, I currently just have one metal tool that is vaguely useful, but certainly not everything I ever wanted. And the layering/building up thing is kinda, I dunno, I'll definitely have to work on it; Plus I feel like I already make way too much greenstuff every time I do it to fill gaps, I have a feeling I will constantly have waste with this :skull:

Do you happen to use the rubber sculpting tools yourself? I have just recently seen those, they look quite useful.

Mixing greenstuff will always result in excess, at least that's how I do it :p That's why I always have a bunch of projects lying around now, I can use some of that excess on them if I feel like it, or I just splat it on a big base (like the Mourngul who received his fair share of extra greenstuff!).

Building in layers is always better on more complex project. Too many times I have tried to make too much, only to have a part messed by a finger or too hard to work on everything at once (correct something, that deform another, try correcting it without messing the rest, etc). For my Outrider above, the leg armor was made with the tights plate first (and one side at a time due to how I had to hold him), then I added the knee bits, then the strap, then the little round part on the side of the knee armor (no good angle for that in the pics). That seems a lot but each parts aren't very long by themselves, the curing is the longest one.

The rubber tools (clay shaper) I definitely use. They work wonder to smooth out surfaces and are much less sticky tha metal tools (they rarely stick, but it can happen, especially if you mix a softer greenstuff with more yellow). I also have a metal tool (like the GW one) that is as useful, they are pretty much all I use, so far I haven't needed more!

Thanks :)

As a preparation to painting the Mourngul, how about some ghost?

I painted some of my Spirit Hosts to go along the test model I did a while ago, so now I have a good number of them ready;

That's only 1/3 of all my hosts ( I have a big horde of 18 of them, oh how I wish they worked like monstrous infantry :P), but that should be enough for games for a while :p The bases edge aren't painted (as small as they are), I want to find some magnetic sheet before painting them.

Also it is good practice for other ethereal thing, like, I don't know, maybe some kind of throne ;)

Wow :|

That is just perfect. Always loved the Mourngul, and yours make me love the mini even more. The conversion with the hair blends in so incredibly naturally, and the colour of it really bring the model to life. The addition of the fallen rider is great. The paintjob on the rider is probably what I love the most though, as he look truly frightened but at the same time very determinant to try and kill the monster with on last shoot.

By all that is good and unholy O_O That looks great!

I also agree, the rider has been done perfectly! I am really, really looking forwards to seeing more stuff by you!

I actually think the horse's eyes looks like saying something like: "Not this again ... why can't you just leave me be ..." xD

But still very cool eyes yes.

Edit: New avatar Melle, I like.

That poor horse, why did you point it out to me :(

@Mioum: Nice spirit host but completely overshadowed by the amazing morngul :O

I have nothing new to add to the praise above but I will say I am not surprised you did such a fantastic job on it after following your amazing TK plog. You are easily one of the best painters on this site. Congratulations  I look forward to seeing more of your vamps in the future (especially your Coven Throne).

That is one of the more cartoon-y/unrealistic models; Most GW/FW things tend to be very solid and detailed. It is pretty amazing though, and the hair was certainly a good choice, I imagine without it the smooth lines over the top look very bland. And the rider, let's just not talk about how amazing that came out.

The paint job is cool, I can dig the blended 'Shadow'X'Ethereal' thing, it is fairly cool, though I would have liked it a bit more if it was higher contrast I think? Like extremely dark shadow (Black/dark grey) vs very "Glow-y" ethereal, but it looks good. I'm just not a fan of the more grainy look on the Mourngoul's flesh/body. As others have said the Rider & Horse are spectacular (The riders eyes/face? To diiieee foor (Not even making puns!)), I just like the look of that style of painting better, personally.

Quite spectacular though.

Wow, such praise  I'm flattered, but I have to humbly say that I don't believe to be amongst the top painters of the site :P I've seen some incredible works around here, and I'm not on par with that. I didn't even bothered to participate in the golden bat  And don't worry about the Throne, it's now on my desk looking at me (finalized some modelling on it), so I'll probably work on it in the near-future :)

@ Twang; Totally agree on a lots of point you bring out. The ethereal hand could have a stronger contrast (I hoped for it to pop a bit more), I just didn't know how it would turn out until the wash was done! And once done, I didn't feel like restarting that part ;) Mayyyybe later I'll try to rework it a bit ...

Also about the texture, there's 2 reasons for that. One is that Forge models are much more detailed that GW. Where GW models have nearly 0 textures (especially plastics), Forge models have some great skin texture on their models, totally different than what we see from GW. Combine this with the drybrush I did on the Mourngul versus the normal painting I did on the horse and Outrider, that makes two totally different result. I very very rarely use drybrush, but for this I wanted to make sure the ethereal effect and dark body match as much as possible my other ethereals (wich are drybrushed too), so that's why it appear more grainy than the rest. But I also prefer the end result of stuff painted by hand, no doubt about it, but this one asked for drybrush!

I also must echo on the coven throne part O_O Being the biggest Lahmian fan ever, I can't wait to see how that turns out!

Better be good *shakes fist* :vampire2:

A few night ago I stumbled on some forgotten models of mine. Lying there, the unit a bit more than half-done, it just asked for some attention. So on a whim, I decided it was time to finish them!

Some of you might remember them (they can be seen on the first page of this log), so here's the last four of my Gargoyles!

aimageshack.us_a_img194_2036_cnlog042.webp

I knocked them all in one night basically, as they were made to be simple to paint, it's just white + black wash (these new one don't really match perfectly with the others, but they are years apart so it was hard to get the same "technique"' on them!). I wasn't sure about the trees color, but I think they came out ok. I wanted to add some leaves too, but can't add anything really with the way they're stored in foam, not much place for anything extra in there.

And it wouldn't be complete with a shot of them all;

aimageshack.us_a_img838_1968_cnlog043.webp

Originally they were to be Fell Bats, but now I think I'll devise some fluffs for them to be Vargheists. I won't need more Fell Bats than the 6 I have, and would be a shame to waste those models by not using them :p

What do you guys think, good enough for Vargeists, or just Fell Bats?

Perhaps a bit off for what I'd expect out of a statue (Glass Cannon vs Rock Solid?), but I certainly wouldn't argue if you set those up on the table :pumpkin:

I have to say, I like the second & fourth in the front row best, will the full rubble bases; I think the flock makes things seem a bit off with me. Good job though, where did those come from again?

Very cool gargs. You've almost managed to make some of the worst models GW currently makes passable!

As for what they are, they seem a little small for Vargs, but if I was playing against you I wouldn't complain if that's what you fielded them as.
