And since this topic have been bumped, how about some more models? :D

I based them to fit with my TK first, but as Undead Legion models they can fit anywhere really :P

First is 2 Morghast Archai;

I plan to make 2 more of these to get a unit of 4. Also have an idea for using the extra Harbinger weapon with another model to have the other unit too. Ordered them this week, so I might work on them soon.

Next up is Arkhan;

I also have Neferata in the work (with the theme of my army, was kinda obvious that I'll get her!). The mount is done actually, just need to do Neferata herself. Also have another kit for Mannfred, but haven't started him.

I just bashed Farmer for thredomancy and here you are doing the same @The Sun King :cautious:

But seeing as it brought an update I guess I can't be that mad about it. Great work as usual @Mioum :thumbsup:
Can't believe how cool the morghasts get when you remove the spirits, and the wings on Arkhan's mount look very interesting. Would love to the more pictures of him from different angles.

Aww yiss, now that's some update I've liked to see :)

Great stuff as usual, Mioum! I really love the conversion work on Arkhan - that ruined pillar is really better than those spirit hosts and wings are a wonderful idea! From where did you get such wings? The morghasts [I had to check the name, I can't remember those new snazzy names] are also great, especially the gold parts. And the little dots on the Arkhan's mount bones - I don't know if they are there on the model, but they look sweet. I'm only not so sure of the use of blue on the etheral things, I'd personally go for something a little more green, as to not add too many colours into the mix.
Nevertheless, it's still a top notch work and I am waiting for Neferata and Mannfred :thumbsup:

And also an occasion for a little rant xD seriously, GW? Giving the morghasts such big strong legs and then contriving the thing with the wings and fiddly spirits? It's probably only so they would break and people would need to buy more :zombie1: they don't even fly properly in the fluff! Nice idea with the 'invisible' sticks, but there's still a mistake in the design on the GW's part in my opinion ;)

@Mioum Those are some really cool minis. With the blue, gold and green choice of colours they do have quite a TK feel to them and look pretty unique compared to most Morghast I've seen so far.

Contrary to Borgnine's tastes in ethereal stuff, I love the blue tones above the greens & greys, etc.

@Borgnine I haven't bought any Morghasts yet but it seems there have been mixed opinions on the minis' design. I think they look awesome but it's just their wings that put me off. They look like the Dead Chickens of Doom or something. (Perhaps some Vargheist wings would look better? Not sure how the size compares).

I think the ghosts that GW added to everything was a bit over-the-top too (another cool choice opting to not use them).

Mioum has done a great job basing them with the flying stands and pillars though, and nice work on painting them up.

Let's see Neferata up here!

Thanks! there's some links for Arkhan pictures where you see full body shot of him from other angle! Didn't want them as a single picture and take so much space, so I linked them instead and just posted the close up.

The wings are from Reaper (from this model). Not sure what are the dots you speak of for the mount, but as far as the paint job go I didn't do anything crazy or special, so it's probably the model itself :p

I know my pics aren't that great, but the color is a bit more greenish I'd say! The main color for that is Nihilakh Oxide (from the technical range).

And yeah the Morghast looks quite fragile if you keep the little spirit to attach them. They might not break, but they bounce a lot when moving them. I wanted something a bit more solid for support!

Just by eyeballing it (I never saw Vargheist in the flesh), their wings might fit. Just that the Vargheist are quite fleshy compared to Morghast, so it might look odd a bit.

You always crush it, mioumboy. Any plans for the Biggest Hat in Warhammer?

If I wasn't distracted left and right but a thousand projects, Mister Big Hat would probably be underway already! The model is all done and ready (with some slight converting, because why make it simple by following the instruction when I can make it harder by converting something!).

Neferata's mount is maybe 80% done though, so that's most likely the next big thing I do, the Big Boss will have to wait a bit more :P

I just went through this thread. You are an excellent painter, I love the green theme. I'm glad I found you :D You are also very talented at using green stuff, just wow.

Where those there all along? How on earth did I miss those o.o

Anyways, had a look and was very pleased. Again, great idea to remove the spirits, have actually have similar ideas myself for this kit. Never thought of adding wings though, and that looks quite cool. Must consider it if I ever get myself one.

I think can see the dots he speaks of. Found on the chin of the mount among other places. In either case I think they look great and really add to the feel of the mini.

They were there from the beginning :p

I though removing the spirit and giving it wings would help make him fit better with my TK (the spirits are more suited for the VC imo), but also will differentiate him enough from the other two. Once all 3 Mortarch are done, having all 3 identical, copy-paste mount would look weird, so I was looking at what could be done. The pose can't be altered much (unless you want to re-sculpt some parts), so the wings was the easiest solution I found!

Oh, those dots! Yeah those are holes that are modeled on the model, and the wash just fill them up :P

I never really noticed them on GW pictures and I don't have or plan to have this model, so I didn't know that ;) Here they are quite noticeable and look really nice :thumbsup:

They're a pretty good attention to detail from the sculptor. Mandibles always have small holes for blood vessels to pass through (the face being very vascular) and muscle attachments. If you google "human mandible" the very first pic has one quite noticeable. I'd never noticed them on the model either.

@Adam_Barrow - thanks for the info ;) I studied human skull a little and I knew about these - but I never thought about them serving this function, guess that should've been obvious :innocent: Here it looks a little more like a decoration, seeing how many of them are here, but maybe that's how bloody-demon-monster's here anatomy works xD

A moose skull has loads because they're lips are huge, strong, and very flexible. I think we just confirmed Dread Abyssals have giant lips when they still have flesh on them.

I'm sorry for this unusual interjection in your thread Mioum, but I had to.

@Adam_Barrow thanks! xD

@Mioum Yes, I drew that myself ;) Now that you say it, and looking at those horns, probably being wooly/hairy would suit it bette, but it would take longer and I didn't have enough time. Besides, without hair it looks much more creepy and human like with those lips xD

So yesterday I got my order from Reaper, and I got the models I wanted to try as Morghast alternative, the Bone Horror.

I got 2 of them (pro-tip; buy the bits at the bottom minus the base, you'll get a $5 discount!) and went to work right away! In one night I had them cleaned, converted, pinned and glued;

And here's how they compare to a regular Morghast;

TaYlMDf.jpg

Pretty easy and quick to build, but expect a lot of pinning as some part will break when you reposition the model (the joint between two bones can be thin and weak). Even with that, much quicker to build than the real GW Morghast (who ideally need to be build in part, painted, then assembled).

Just for the nakedness of the model I like them more as Harbinger, but it require more work to convert the weapons and arms. The stock great weapon would work nicely for Archai otherwise.

They should be quick to paint too!
