Bravo_10 said:Personally, I'm thinking of trying the close-combat death master in my next battle:
Vamp Lord
Red Fury
Quickblood
Dread Knight
Ogre Blade (+2 S)
Enchanted Shield
Talisman of Preservation
Potion of Foolhardiness
Heavy Armor
So, he's putting out 5 WS9 S7 attacks (6 when you pop the potion), likely re-rolling to hit unless your opponent has ASF or godly initiative for some reason, and attacking again for each unsaved wound. He's also got the usual T5, 3+ armor save, and 4+ ward save. Add a few magic levels to taste and voila, you've got a powerful wizard who can kill a dragon by himself.

Used to be you could have red fury, perma hatred re-rolls+ room for another 25 pt power, plus a sword that turns every wound you dish out into a wound regenned on your vampire, while still pulling of a 2+ save with ward. The old book was far worse in the overpowered characters department.

Also, characters can easily be killed with a single spell or cannonball.

I will not be building any of these as I dont agree with auto win characters. And before anyone says they can be killed I would like to know how when they are pushing out 5-8 attacks with re rolls ASF and red fury. Red fury and asf should be priced so you cant have both

Level 2 Magic (vampire), Heavy Armour, Nightshroud, Quickblood, Red Fury, Shield, Sword of Bloodshed, riding an AT.
8 re roll to hit attacks. Against most rank and file he should cut a huge bloody hole into anything. Plus the AT will do some damage as well. I plan on running him around with a pack of 6 deep vargiest (sp?). Too bad they can't officially be in one unit together.
He's a huge point sink, but I think he'll make those points back, or at the very least my model looks sexy.
Burnanation said:I'm not too worried about the ward save. Yes a cannon ball or two or 3 would turn him into pulp... but what's not to say that wouldn't happen with the save. With the flying about he should be able to pick a target that is squishy pretty quickly. If he takes a wound we have hunger and magic. I wouldn't fly him into the front of a unit unless it had under 15 models (we're talking infantry here)... and even then..., mostly he's going to smash into the sides and rear where there won't be supporting attacks.
Oh and he has a 2+ armor save which is plenty awesome for hack'n and slash'n rank and file.
N1AK said:It's a ghoul king build but as I didn't see a separate thread I'll post it here:
Ghoul King
+ Sword of Bloodshed
+ Red Fury
+ Potion of Strength
= 390pt
Cheap enough to fit into a 2.4k build with a lvl 4 Necromancer.
He's got 5+1+3 = 9 attacks with re-rolls to hit. The potion of strength makes him str 8 for one round (could be swapped for PoToughness) and has Red Fury.

Vamp Lord (as many magic levels as you want)
Red Fury
Quick Blood
Ogre Blade
Talisman Preservation
Other Tricksters Shard
Heavy Armor/Shield
Coven Throne
S7 attacks, re-roll misses, enemy re-rolls ward saves against entire Coven Throne. Yes, please! :devil2:

Except you also have to reroll your own ward save against cannons....
Q: Is a model considered to be in base contact with himself? (var)
A: No.
VvC said:I'm sure that the optimal build has already been decided upon by now, but I really want to make the Nightshroud work- as it fits wonderfully with the fluff of my von Carstein Vampire Lord. So, I drew up a build trying to get the most out of it, while still making him a pronounced Carstein.
Vampire Lord
HA+GW
Talisman of Preservation
Nightshroud
Red Fury
AoDM
Beguile
Dreadknight
Considering dropping the GW and Talisman of Preservation for a Sword of Battle and Talisman of 5++, but I don't think it would synergize well enough with the shroud.
