The music played and wine flowed as the ball went on into the evening and then the night. Even with the rain pounding outside and the shrieking of the wind the revellers carried on without a care to the world.
Hours passed and guests began to drift off home, leaving behind a hardcore score who did not seem inclined to leave.
Yet the unlimited stores of Lady Jacqueoff's wine cellar could not sate a certain thirst and as the clock chimed twelve a darkness stole into the ballroom. None could see where it came but one minute a large man was stood there, face ruddy with alcohol. Next shadows consumed him and spat out out a corpse. His face was deathly pale, hand grasped over his torn throat that was gushing blood. Crashing to the floor his eyes looked around blindly before with his last breath he gasped,
"Vampire....."
The word was like a shockwave as guests scrambled away, leaving the victim to begin cooling on the marbled floor.
Seeing some skirt towards the door Lady Jacqueoff clicked her fingers sharp and with a bang the main doors were slammed shut.
"Stop!" she commanded, voice laced with authority. She cut a fine figure, lithe but with curves in all the right places. Ebony hair cascaded in waves down over her shoulders, and removing her mask revealed porcelain skin offsetting emerald eyes. The ankle length dress had panels cut out revealing generous portions of flesh, showcased even more as she rapidly strode up a wide flight of stairs to other surrounding balcony.
"As the Lady of these lands I hold a responsibility to their safety. As such I cannot....and moreso will not, suffer a creature of the night to feed here. As a master of the art of shadow I know of the cantrips it used tonight, and I can say with certainty that the creature must have been one of you in this room, for the wards built into this hall could not be breached from outside."
A flick of her hands and chosen words caused the air around the walls to ripple, before once again solidifying.
"I have enabled this rooms more potent protections. The main doors and the windows are unbreachable. There is a wall of power protecting access to these stairs. The only rooms accessible are to your left which leads to bedrooms, and to your right which leads to the privies. There are no exits to the outside from these rooms."
The reaction was mixed, however before a riot could erupt Lady Jacqueoff spoke further,
"For the greater good this must be done. Somehow between you the vampire or possibly vampires must be discovered. Though it may be a hard task you must choose by majority those to put to death, in hope that we may unmask the daemon amongst us. Some innocents may die, but their sacrifice will be honoured."
The game has begun!
You are in a large rectangular hall with black marbled floor, chandeliers and ornamentation that speaks of wealth. The main doors are on the southern smaller wall, with a row of floor to ceiling windows on the long west wall. At the northern top of the west wall lies the door to the bedrooms, which are the usual noble affair (four poster etc).
The long east wall has two pictures of the Lady Jacqueoff and a tapestry showing her ancestors driving back foul beastmen. At the southern bottom of the east wall is a door to the privies (one of the ladies, one for the men).
The north wall is dominated by a grand staircase to the surrounding balcony that that the Lady Jacqueoff and a score of crossbow now stand on.
There are two long tables running lengthwise down the hall, and a smaller head table running width wise at the bottom of the stair case. The tables hold various foods and drinks.
This game starts on the night cycle. Unlike the other night cycles, there will be no status actions on this first one. Hence due too the shock your characters can remain awake and talk as you see fit. This will just continue into the first day. You can also begin voting if you wish.
