The music played and wine flowed as the ball went on into the evening and then the night. Even with the rain pounding outside and the shrieking of the wind the revellers carried on without a care to the world.

Hours passed and guests began to drift off home, leaving behind a hardcore score who did not seem inclined to leave.

Yet the unlimited stores of Lady Jacqueoff's wine cellar could not sate a certain thirst and as the clock chimed twelve a darkness stole into the ballroom. None could see where it came but one minute a large man was stood there, face ruddy with alcohol. Next shadows consumed him and spat out out a corpse. His face was deathly pale, hand grasped over his torn throat that was gushing blood. Crashing to the floor his eyes looked around blindly before with his last breath he gasped,

"Vampire....."

The word was like a shockwave as guests scrambled away, leaving the victim to begin cooling on the marbled floor.

Seeing some skirt towards the door Lady Jacqueoff clicked her fingers sharp and with a bang the main doors were slammed shut.

"Stop!" she commanded, voice laced with authority. She cut a fine figure, lithe but with curves in all the right places. Ebony hair cascaded in waves down over her shoulders, and removing her mask revealed porcelain skin offsetting emerald eyes. The ankle length dress had panels cut out revealing generous portions of flesh, showcased even more as she rapidly strode up a wide flight of stairs to other surrounding balcony.

"As the Lady of these lands I hold a responsibility to their safety. As such I cannot....and moreso will not, suffer a creature of the night to feed here. As a master of the art of shadow I know of the cantrips it used tonight, and I can say with certainty that the creature must have been one of you in this room, for the wards built into this hall could not be breached from outside."

A flick of her hands and chosen words caused the air around the walls to ripple, before once again solidifying.

"I have enabled this rooms more potent protections. The main doors and the windows are unbreachable. There is a wall of power protecting access to these stairs. The only rooms accessible are to your left which leads to bedrooms, and to your right which leads to the privies. There are no exits to the outside from these rooms."

The reaction was mixed, however before a riot could erupt Lady Jacqueoff spoke further,

"For the greater good this must be done. Somehow between you the vampire or possibly vampires must be discovered. Though it may be a hard task you must choose by majority those to put to death, in hope that we may unmask the daemon amongst us. Some innocents may die, but their sacrifice will be honoured."

The game has begun!

You are in a large rectangular hall with black marbled floor, chandeliers and ornamentation that speaks of wealth. The main doors are on the southern smaller wall, with a row of floor to ceiling windows on the long west wall. At the northern top of the west wall lies the door to the bedrooms, which are the usual noble affair (four poster etc).

The long east wall has two pictures of the Lady Jacqueoff and a tapestry showing her ancestors driving back foul beastmen. At the southern bottom of the east wall is a door to the privies (one of the ladies, one for the men).

The north wall is dominated by a grand staircase to the surrounding balcony that that the Lady Jacqueoff and a score of crossbow now stand on.

There are two long tables running lengthwise down the hall, and a smaller head table running width wise at the bottom of the stair case. The tables hold various foods and drinks.

This game starts on the night cycle. Unlike the other night cycles, there will be no status actions on this first one. Hence due too the shock your characters can remain awake and talk as you see fit. This will just continue into the first day. You can also begin voting if you wish.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Antonio had been stood in a corner, a swirling a glass of wine in his hand, and now came forward, cane slamming against the floor rhythmically, a steady, hollow beat.

"Lady Jacqueofff, I must protest! How can you justify leaving us here with these creatures? I am of the noble House Veneziia; I demand to be treated with more respect!"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"Von Carstein came from a noble house," Lady Jacqueoff replied tartly, "need I say more?"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"Why not just shoot us all and be done with it!"

Serethia raised her voice in frustration as mere minutes ago she had considered to leave and return to her home and most importantly her soft bed.

"Ugh, join the ball he said...it will be fun he said."

The woman simply starts to mumble herself, in her right hand she still holds her glass of wine while her left grips the side of her crimson dress. This truly was not the kind of entertainment she was expecting.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

The noble's left eyebrow rose, and his face clouded over in clear anger. "How dare you even make such an assumption! The von Carstein's tricked their way into power, and you know as well as I do that there is no saying their patriarch was even of noble blood! You ... You shall regret this, Anita. My father will see to that, I assure you!"

With that, he turned on his heel and strode over to the western wall, clearly giving up the fight for the time being, and chose a comfortable, high-backed chair with it's back to the window, and rested his left ankle casually over his right knee, cane leant against him. His scowl deepened into a glare which he cast about the room.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"I can do that if you wish," Lad Jacqueoff replied coolly to Serethia, though I would imagine that only vampires would survive being shot with a crossbow bolt, ".......interesting......"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Sir Sigmund Müller stood with blade in hand, the blade forged in such a way that it reflected a blue light matching it's sheath and it's wielder's garb.

The rich knight looked around the room with a frown, he lowered the blade but kept it in hand as he glanced at the others.

"Well this is disturbing." Sigmund growled "But I suppose the Lady is correct. we can not allow such an unholy abomination to escape."

"Lucky that you have such a well protected home." he added sounding suspicious of the host.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"Luck had nothing to do with it, it is second nature to one of my standing," Lady Jacqueoff countered, "and I must ask, have you always....growled like that....it is very unusual."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"Holy butternickles."

Bastion's eyes started flicking around the room. Eventually they settled about three quarters of the way up Lady Jacqueoff's enormous portrait. After a few moments, he shook himself.

His eyes began wondering again, this time falling upon one of the long tables, resplendent with food and drink that seemed to have appeared from nowhere.

"I guess it's time to hit the bottle, eh?"

Bastion waddled over to the table, grabbed a clean plate and an empty goblet, and began hurriedly filling both.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Sigmund grinned at the host loking amusing.

"One learns to growl when training young headstrong noblemen in the art of knighthood."

Sigmund looked at the walls of the hall and shivered slightly "A fair reply, although how you can live in a place surrounded by magic is beyond my comprehension. Magic and those who wield it have always made me uncomfortable." he added.

The knight shifted his gaze to Bastion with a look of disgust before turning to look at the others.

Karl growled low and hobbled towards the table, pulling out a stack of wanted posters and warrants. "Laddies and gentlemen if you could remove your masks that would be helpful.."

The few people without masks became a focus of Karls attention as he thumbed through the stack of papers looking for a match.

Mihael snapped another shard of chocolate from all of the chocolate he had hoarded from this party. Looking up from the table he was crouched on, he picked up another chunk as he chewed contemplatively. A light gleamed in his eye.

"Looks like we have a challenge then. Which one... of us is the.."

he paused as he swallowed a large morsel.

"The killer, or killers." An odd half-smile crossed his face.

"More importantly however, is how many of us will die before the murderer is found?"

Michael looked down, closely observing the chunk of chocolate in his hands.

"This sounds exciting doesn't it."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Exciting...?
Viktor glared at the young Mihael as if waiting for a reply. His gaze immediately flickered to the nobleman Antonio, who was scowling and rested on him for a second.

I would not call this exciting... he mumbled.

He strode to a window and stared at the night, thinking.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Hearing the command to remove the masks, Bastion swallowed the food and nodded. He tore off the fox mask and cast it to the ground.

"Masks do naught but attract suspicion anyway."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"Oh come now.." Lucien said as he strode over the body "I cant believe you are going to fall for this performance. It is obviously a rather convincing and may I add, distasteful jape being played out."
He gently kicked the body expecting it to move and then stared at the blood clinging to the sole of his boot. "This is a joke, isn't it?"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"I don't think anyone would dare to make a ...jest like this."

Serethia's gaze moved to their host and then back to the body, sighing deeply.

"I also don't see this as something fun or exciting."

The brown haired female tossed an fairly accusing stare at the chocolate eating male before emptying her glass.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"Of course it's not a joke." Mihael muttered irritably, "I can see from here his neck hasn't got a pulse."

Grinning boyishly he looked towards Viktor and Serethia, brushing some hair from in front of his eyes. "Why of course it is exciting. It's not often you're trapped in a room with a vampire, with nothing but evidence which we have yet to find, the only way of living is to prove your own innocence. By my definition fighting for your life is exciting, yes"

Mihael crunched a large chunk of chocolate and gazed into the near distance, already thinking.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Antonio leant forward, resting his elbows on his knees and his head on interlocked hands.

"Clearly, this is not a joke. A man lies dead before us!" He stood once more. "I cannot stand this ... Anita, can you not remove this body? Surely it is beyond disrepect to leave him on the floor, not to mention disturbing for us?" The man visibly shuddered, and then his thin fingers crept up to his half-mask and pull it from his face, letting his hair fall back across his face gracefully.

"I do not think for a minute that removing our masks will make the slightest difference, but be that as it may ... Here," he announced, shaking his head and muttering indistinguishably. "I would, however, like to know how the Estimable Lady knows that this ... Beast isn't a part of her household staff."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

*pop*

Rosa had opened up another bottle of champagne, the cork flying high through the air towards the staircase before turning to dust as the cap passed the shadow mage's protective wards. Rosa didn't even notice.

"That... was bloody clever!" cackled Rosa, failing miserably to fill up an ale tankard, which was already half-full with red wine, with the fizzing champagne. She was still standing, barely, tottering on her short legs as copious amounts of the drink splattered onto the black marble floor. Raising the tankard, Rosa drained it dry, before dropping it to better gesticulate without throwing the precious champagne bottle.

The inebriated Rosa shot out a right hand at the rent body of the man, before stifling a puddingy burp. "How'd he *hic* do that? Do it... again!" The poor woman was so drunk that she couldn't even tell what was going on.

Rosa tottered over to the table where a middle-aged looking man had just thrown down a fox mask. Rosa's own Owl mask was still, somehow, attached to her face. The man had managed to find a goblet.

"Here, lemme get you *hic* an umbrella," managed Rosa, pouring champagne right over Bastian's plate and goblet, but miraculously managing to avoid his person. She reached up to drink from the bottle, but missed, the glass end hitting the wooden cheek of her mask.

"Hey, my *hic* skin's gone all wooden!" cried Rosa, staggering backwards slightly from Bastian. She reached up but only succeeded in grabbing her shoulder-length brown hair, her fingers unable to find the clasp for her mask. Finally Rosa gave up, slumping onto a stool and raising the bottle, only to find it was disappointingly empty.

"Where's the rum gone..." mumbled Rosa, her head lolling forward as an audible snore erupted from behind her mask.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Mihael snorted "Simple, if it were then she wouldn't be throwing a party, and I trust these spells. The only way a vampire could be in her staff would be if she was sided with the vampires, which would mean either she was a vampire herself or a swain slash servant of one.

Miss Jaqueoff has thrown many many parties in the past, where not a single guest has died. Why suddenly use her party as a means for blood in such an obvious and unsubtle way?"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"I disagree, boy. How does it follow that, because she has thrown parties in the past, and that she has thrown a party, that a vampire could not be on her staff? I know for a fact that servants come and go; there's no knowing!
"And if her magic was as useful as it appears to be, we wouldn't need to be locked in here." The nobleman snorted himself, and shook his head condescendingly, and then dismissed Mihael with a look of contempt.

He raised his eyebrow at Rosa's sleeping form and then continued to cast his gaze over the others. "Do you all really think this is the time to be drinking? Surely a clear head is necessary; the alcohol will not help!"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Rosa briefly emerged from her stupor as a grim-looking man with a cane said something she couldn't quite make out. She giggled, the bottle sliding from her hands and hitting the floor with a clang, but not smashing. She was about to stand up and say something, but decided against it, feeling around on the table behind her for another drink. She chanced upon Bastian's now-strangely mixed goblet, seizing it and draining it down in one long gulp.

"There's always... *hic* a need for... *hic* drinking..." she burbled, suppressing another puddingy burp before leaning back against the table behind her, this time at least maintaining some rudimentary form of consciousness.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"We might all be killed by her soldiers or drained dry by a vampire-...I think a few drinks are more then fine."

Serethia casually swirled the empty glass between her fingers before continuing.

"Perhaps alcohol has a different effect on vampires as well? So in my opinion everyone should have a glass of wine ...or four."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Antonio snorted derisively. "You lot can all become sodden messes, but I - for one - want at least half a chance if it turns out one of us a vampire."

He returned to the comfortable chair by the window and sat with his left knee supporting right ankle. This time, he placed his mask on his lap and his elbows on the arms of his chair, interlocking his fingers. "We have all been drinking drinking tonight already; it is about time we stopped to take stock of the situation. I suggest we all stay here tonight; in view of each other. I know none of you personally, so I feel justified on saying this - I wouldn't trust any of you as far as I can spit!"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"Four? Don't mind if I do," mumbled Rosa, managing to find a hefty-looking bottle of whiskey. She grabbed two more goblets from the table, drunkenly lining them up completely skew-whiff before trying to fill them all up in one motion, spilling plenty onto the table as she tried to manoeuvre her hand to each goblet.

"One... two... three, four!" she cried, completely oblivious to the fact that there were only in fact three goblets in front of her. Before she could drain them however, Rosa became distracted by a wobbly jelly pudding, which she proceeded to douse in whiskey.
