Official Rumour Thread: New Vampire Counts Book

Just spoke to the guy at my local GW (I mention no names), and he said he isn't actually told what armies gonna' be next until right before when we are!

So I didn't manage to glean any rumours off him (he said he heard some, and just confirmed that they probably won't out before Christmas if thy're gonna' be out at all).

Not sure if this too off topic or not, but the news of a new Warhammer Siege rulebook being launched in this months WD being discussed on Warseer has got my interest, especially considering the liklihood of our new releases anticipated for January. From my limited experience of the old siege rules, VC's (in 8th Ed) have a hard time in sieges due to the intentional lack of war machines and medium / long ranged shooting, not to mention the poor ballistic skill of most of our troops (for 'dropping rocks' on the heads of besieging troops). Therefore, could the new Siege rulebook offer us an opportunity to field generic artillery, or is this a sign that we will be getting our own artillary in the new Army Book? The Mortis Engine could be a possibility, but in this universe, even the rules for the Coven Throne could give us some kind of long range warfare capability. Who knows! What do you all think?

I think Mortis Engine might be some sort of war machine. Coven Throne sounds more like a 'mount' or some such for the vampire lord. I could imagine a Lahmian vampiress riding atop of one...

Goddam, new siege rules?! Wonderful. I imagine a load of plastic siege machines etc would be on the cards. I doubt any of the new VC released would be siege based though, too situational.

Just got December's WD. On the 3rd of December GW will release a Warhammer campaign called Blood in the Badlands. It will contain campaign rules, four multi-player scenarios, a warhammer siege expansion and rules for fighting battles in vast subteranean cave complexes.

Also released are the cygor/ghorgon kit, jabberslythe, doombull in finecast, mangler squigs, various LotR finecasts, and high elf and skaven £130 army deals.

Having flicked through I've seen nothing about VC's though. But I haven't read it fully yet so maybe there's a hint hidden in the text somewhere.

And just in case anybody missed it on the inside of the back cover, the next issue of WD will be out 7th January. Thats a long time to wait, but with any luck it will be worth it!

Well all looks good for the next few months at least, also the Vampire Counts Rule book can no longer be bought off the GW Website.

I think this expansion will go the same was as SoM, another useless expansion few will ever bother to play, some armies are not even going to be really usable in them anyway due to no range etc they will be suffering from the word go.

They're hardly going to leave it till January? I don't remember the other 8th ed books having the old book taken down a month or more beforehand.

I was being positive, as if to say it makes financial sense for it to be released this month instead of jan. All the ten year olds screaming at mamma to buy them the new stuff.

Personally, the first page I jump to will be the blooodlines

Hey guys, I was in GW yesterday, and I was chatting to one of the other vets in the store, and he mentioned reading on another forum about some leaked stats for one of our new Lord level named characters.

I cannot find the forum he referred to (and the name escapes me) so I will ask him later to link me...

However, what I can remember is that he (yes HE) is VERY nasty combat character, around 500pts, WS 10, and some nasty abilities/items that mean he can slaughter waves of enemy rank and file, and in a challenge has a blade-master-type-ability that lets him reduce your opponent's WS/Str/I by D3 for the round (you choose which). Its also gathered that he can only join units of Blood Knights...

...So, seems like we may be getting either a Blood Dragon of some kind- perhaps Walach, Abhorash or The Red Duke???

Anyway, I am off to hunt down this reference- SO, watch this space

I'm interested (I does love my Blood Dragons).
I think it would be more likely Walach or the Red Duke at that kind of points level, if he can only join Blood Knights it sounds very much like Walach to me.

I think Abhorash at 500 points would be very silly.
Like having Archaon cost 350 or something!

I've got the December WD. And there's nothing about what's out in January. Which sucks. Vampire counts aren't really mentioned at all though, which is a good sign they're trying to distract us and then surprise us with the release. And I doubt they will redo the models for Skellies, Ghouls, dire wolves, grave guard, blood knights and all the other stuff that they released recently or in the last army book.
