Hey I'm new on this forums I've been drawn here cos of this thread.

I've only recently started playing vamps after a long stint with skaven. I must say however I find them a little dull to play (at least competitively) so I'm excited about a new book. I think it would be cool if vc took a leaf out of the necromantic bloodbowl team's book and had some kind of werewolf unit alongside the flesh golems.

I think too it would be cool if the vc went a little bit steampunk or necropunk say kinda how the foresaken are in wow (yes I play wow get over it) or a little bit like Cryx in warmachine.

Then we could have the use of a warmachine firing poison gas or zombie suicide bombers or massive bomb throwing flesh golems or whatever. I mean what are the necrach up to in those dungeons anyway if there not brewing poisons or making unholy engines of destruction built of flesh and iron.

Just my tupenthworth

Agree with all the posts saying that skeletons won't be fixed just by a points drop - a crock at 4 points is still a crock. But I also don't think there will be any change to the unstable USR in the rulebook.

Look at every article VC have featured in in white dwarf recently, while most armies tend to go with one horde, for VC it's all about the big units, often zombies, and the battle report in the Terrorgheist issue was a classic example.

I think we are heading in the same direction as skaven, with VC becoming a proper horde army. It's always been somewhere in between. Commercially it makes sense - if VC are popular enough to be redone ahead of wood elves, dwarves etc, then encouraging a bigger spend on core units makes sense.

In many ways that really fits the aesthetic, but I still think it will be crucial to address the combat resolution issue - maybe magic standards are the way to go, but I think we are going to end up with very deep, ranked hordes.

I'd like to see corpse carts join zombie units though, it would make a lot of sense.

Unfortunately I agree we are going to be shafted with nothing but hordes.

The things I see ahead are 1 or 2 sparkly new kits, a fair bit of the old character range returning along side a few that were never out of the books finally on the table top.
Our lore being nerfed and the necromancy spell rule being scrapped and being stuck with similar to tomb king augments, the WK dropping to 2 wounds, skellies dropping in cost points wise, new Zombie kit and ghouls being changed to special.

All that and our magical inventory being pilfered by Mat Ward.
I don't even know if fell bats and bat swarms will feature any longer either.

With any luck though they will bring back the old immune to poison, vamps don't crumble from anything rules and give Blood Knights Plate Armour and an extra +1 to their current Initiative.

In the way of army selection however I don't think will will get jack all, pros one or 2 big shiny kits that look cool like these Flesh Golem's and the BC kit but nothing to really flesh out our core at all unless levies return or we get a slave type unit/ Mercenary/ Slavanian Populace.
Things don't look bright for the future of VC, that and we can probs kiss goodbye to most our blood traits.... especially forbidden lore and Master of Black Arts. :swear:

I may seem like the herald of doom but GW likes to screw people over with armies at ever turn and give them a new tripe book of lore that contrasts all prior and call it the new lore because they can not read their own books, if I had to put money on it I would almost swear that GW will not be happy until all players in warhammer use Warriors of Chaos or Space Marines. (Ultra plain Vanilla Marines of course)

Hmm, I didn't mean to come across as so pessimistic! I highly doubt that we'll see ghouls cross over into special - and I doubt that they will actually remove any of the options, fell bats/swarms included.

I'll be honest - when I get a chance to play its against a wood-elf army, and an empire player who can't afford to buy any cannon. It's not like I need to run the worlds most powerful list.

Lets wait and see, GW have done good jobs on books before, and there's a slim chance we won't be inflicted with Mat Wards latest horror.

I'll still play Spirit Hosts, bat swarms and dire wolves. Damn the consequences, the bad guys always lose in the best films anyway...

Everyone complains about ghouls having to much power, they will either drop in toughness, loose the poison rule or become special, if just hope to go they do not unit cap them and make them skirmish.
GW are trying to force us away from the ghouls as our best core by hook or by crook and thats how they will do it allowing zombies and Skeletons to lead the way. :(
I doubt We will get to keep them, either that or I will be impressed if we get new models or rules for them..... Maybe fell bats with the TG if we are lucky.

Its not about needing too, its about having a choice to for when you need it.... also get your empire mate a Mordheim rule book. :)

For everything good they do there is a slurry of crap it takes to get there, we will suffer elsewhere and have something big and shiny to distract us with god stats but when it really comes down to it, its going to be a pain to field, limited and nothing but a bloody target that dies somehow ever time without fail..... *begins to wonder about Varghulf 2.0)
What we will lose will just be another of a long series of nails in our coffin.

From what I heard last night at the hobby shop:

New Vampires, Deamons of Chaos and either Bretonnia or Empire are to be released, beginning with VC in January, and then followed by the other new releases in subsequent months.

The guy seemed to sound pretty reliable... 40k player, but he seemed confident.

Thanks.

I dont think they will move ghouls to special because that would leave us with only two core choices. I also dont agree that ghouls are to good its just that they are surrounded by crap in the core choice category and thats why they shine. If they remove the posion rule from ghouls they will be just as useless. We dont need to nerf whats good thats a terrible way of fixing anything. If you want to claim some unit is to good for its points go look at chaos marauders with flails as they will smash ghouls in the face everytime and cost less. Skeletons either need to drop to 4 points or be made worth 8 or however much they cost. I dont care about the whole Tomb king skeletons cost 4 blah blah. We are not tomb kings we are vampire counts and are skeletons should be different. just my opinion

Name one book that has radically altered the core/spec/rare, please. Infact, it hard to find a book where they didn't add 2-3 units ontop of the existing ones. In the TK book we clearly can see that they're aware of the implications of the undead rule. In the living envoirment that makes up wargaming there will be painful changes, at times, and we are probably in on right now. 8th changed the magic system drastically, so naturally we had change with it.

I did not like the current book much at all. It drove me away from VC but I go on a rant on how GW is ruining VC? No. Why? Because all they did was focus on another aspect of VC. Many people loved this change so obviously they didn't ruin anything. On the other hand I absolutely love what happend to beastmen, moving away from marks and such newfounded silliness but like I said, this is a living envoirment, so you must learn to not get too attached to things.

So let's just skip these paranoid rants and just be candid about things. It's not about "ruining the game" it is about not sharing your vision but by all means, let us assume the worst before anything have been revealed. VC have had a high-note already, stuff changed in 8th, I mean ffs. Give GW some slack, they can't throw out army books because they we'd complain even more about unfinished projects. Indeed, lately they've increased the frequency of releases and actually adressed the problems(see undead rule and TK).

I do not mean to offend but I am just sick and tired of pointless and unfounded whining. Yes, woe is us. We only dominated 7th edition and now have to endure a less dominant position while we get a new AB in a few months before many other armies who didn't even get a 7th edition book. Poor us, indeed!

I agree with you on this one, VC was a very strong list on 7th edition. I prefer playing 7th edition, until the new army book comes out. That's just because I usually play against High Elves or Lizardmen, and neither of them has a new book either. It goes without saying, that VC has now some transitional problems with it's units, because practically the army list is something between 7th and 8th edition.

The acquired benefits are always the hardest to give up, though so I understand the irritation. My choice was to stick playing 7th edition until the new book comes out. Then I will be playing a totally different game IMO, which will be refreshing.

IIRC GW has since the coming of 7th been moving infantry stuff from rare to special like maniacs, black guard are one example. An even worse example would be high elves. Both phoenix guards and white lions were moved to special while silver helm were moved from core to special. Meaning they have three different core, two different rare and infinite special units. An more recent example is OnG troll, which were moved from rare to special. So it do occur them altering core/special/rare.

Though I agree with you on your other points Danceman. Even though Gw has made a few changes and decisions (and broken rules) over the year, they have still blessed us with a great hobby.

Never said they would be Special just said they may, either way I expect some horrible cloud of doom and darkness to sweep above the heads of all ghoul players.

Danceman all I am saying is we will get either something Shiny to replace ghouls as a core and them moved to special or they will be nerfed with the old still alive rules or skirmish.....
Something will happen.
In regards to radically altering a book like that, in warhammer few come to mind like High Elves, in 40k its been nearly every other book, Happened in blood angels, happened in Grey knights and I have seen the necron book today...... Trust me, its scary.
Then again this just may be Mat Ward on his own rampage.

I did not go on a rant, I expressed my opinion and what I expect to happen based on past events, I see very few people cheering about the current book, in fact most of what is see from anyone who has used the old book is people complaining about not having the old book any more.
Beastmen was good but when you pour allot of effort into an army for it to be horribly twisted out of shape contrasting all prior events and then being told to deal with it does not sit well.

Now lets not write other people contributions off as rants and try and take on board what everyone hopes will happen and be free to voice our own concerns, if you don't like it you can cover your eyes for the parts you don't like.
I am giving GW slack, they have had one of their best years yet, dozens of great models, forge world has been great as well but that does not mean all prior and anything else that may be wrong goes away, if people were happy they would stop complaining, as GW is always being complained about this is evidently not the case, the majority of the threads on VC at some point or another will complain about GW on some point be it past models, poor models, new rules, stupid rules, ad lore, unrealistic changes, price increases. (The list goes on)

Mate when anyone starts off any sentence with "I don't mean to offend" or "with all due respect" it will almost certainly be negative and offending, the fact is people complain because they are voicing opinions and concerns, saying I am sick of hearing about them does nothing to dispel them so lets cool our jets and look at what others think will happen as I was only giving my "OPINION".

I just hope the zombies are worth it, although if I get Slavanian troops back, a option to take the Red Duke and Knights in Bretonian Lance Formation and Krell making GG a core choice all will be forgiven. xD

Gravegaurd as core *drool*. I would totally run the red duke if they made him an option. Ive been reading the book and hes just pure awesome. Hell i would be happy if they just made a forge world model of him. I dont even need an actual stat line for him I just want a model that looks like the cover of the book.

Indeed, and the majority started just around the 8th edition I believe. Imagine that... We had it good in 7th, real good, and many others didn't even get a book. Now we have to take a bit of slap for awhile. GW realised the problem for undead armies and both TK and VC were put first in line. TK skeletons got a massive reduction in points. 40k power creep has been worse than WHFB, that's for sure.

Beastmen didn't have marks once upon a time, I am sure the change proved annoying to those that put work into their minis as well. Necrons does not look particularly scary, infact, much of their shooting is mid-range which is a scary proposition for a comparably weak CC army. It is by now means weak. Furthermore, the main problem with GK is the atrociously horrible fluff. Granted it has some rather silly builds but the wound allocation game will not work come 6th edition(which also explain some really weird rules in the necron codex).

As for voicing concern, by all means, do so. I would posit the idea that voicing concern over something we know nothing about is pre-mature. Is there any indication of what will happend to ghouls? If no, then what are your concerns? That's my point.

As for core Grave Guard, I rather see them make a solid army book than introducing a crutch.

I don't see it as them seeing issues, Brets have allot more than ours, the way I see it is VC was a Big money spinner and TK have needed to be redone for a long time either way its looked at.
Now thinking models though I think the Abyssal Terror Will be dropped. (change of subject I know)
In 7th things were good but I don't care about the power, just the realism and how good a feel the army has at the end of the day and lots of fluff of course. xD
40k has gone nuts, wait till you see the rule book in store tomorrow, its bloody ridiculous...
I was hoping they would boost them all up to about the same tier but oh no, I am looking forwards to a real sisters of battle codex though with a nice plastic kit for troops.

Beastmen got some interesting stuff but as an army its just nice to see them no longer in hordes of chaos, it just took a while for them to really come into their own.
Necrons are extremely scary, I am guessing you have not seen the new codex or rules as you are referencing the codex which is not released for a few hours yet which I saw ahead of time, its page after page of filth.
Now wait to you see it before you argue the point against it.
GK had some bad fluff to be sure but some of their rules are insane, amount of choices, unkillable characters and units, 2+ wards etc, it just makes it a dirty army before you realize they are all pyskers and your will get killed at every turn with a mace to the face.

People can be concerned over a unknown future, its human nature and discussion allows us to share common fears in that regards and discuss what we feel would best serve us going forwards.

I would rather allot of things but with allot of 40k armies getting the whole take this guy and you can have this as core *cough, cough, Sanguinary Guard, cough, Paladins cough* and with the great Mat Ward writing the Time of Legends gook about the Vamps/ Undead we may end up with something like this.
Not saying it will happen, just a possibility.

Let's look at what Harry and Hastings have said regarding the new additions to the range.

New monstrous infantry (2 variants)
Some sort of riders (with possibly 2 variants)
At least one black coach variant

None of that sounds remotely like a core choice to me - which means it's our specials and rares that are about to get new lines.

Shifting ghouls across into special would thus cut our core choices to 2. Now I would like to see the ban on bat swarms and dire wolves lifted from not counting towards our minimum core - but I think it's unlikely.

In an infinite universe everything is possible, even skirmishing ghouls but the reason I don't think that will happen is there have been too many articles on multiple-basing ranked core choices. Games dev arent going to be that suicidal. Current prediciton:

Core:
Skeletons (down to 4 or 6pts)
Ghouls
Zombies
Dire wolves
Corpse cart (can join zombie units)
Bat swarms

Special:
New monstrous thingy variant 1
New monstrous thingy variant 2
Black knights
New rider variant
Spirit hosts
Fell bats

Rare:
Black coach
Other black coach kit variant
Blood knights
Varghulf

Actually, I think it's entirely likely that our core restrictions are going away. Everyone else's seem to have done so. Our tomb kings counterparts get chariots, two kinds of cavalry, and two kinds of infantry in core without having to jump through any hoops.

Swarms and carts might or might not move to special, but ghouls are most likely staying core, and dire wolves are quite likely to become 'true' core.

Actually, I view it as well within the realm of probability that, if the new cav box does turn out to be dual kit, we'll end up with some core cavalry as well. Speculation has gone to some sort of wraith cavalry, but given that we already have one rare cav unit, it seems unlikely that they'd give us another.

Our book doesn't need to try and force us to field a standard battle line, anymore. the 8th edition rules in general already make infantry battle lines good, the designers have already learned that they no longer need to try and force players to run them with arbitrary restrictions.

Duke Danse Macabre; Necrons are tough but as a DE player I like the codex. Lots of 24" ranged weapons, add in the night shield and we have a good receipe for necrons locked in combat or simply out of range and slower than me. In addition they have no weapons which ignore invul saves so that makes wyches or anything else with a ward(hehe) a serious problem. So the point wasn't "It will be a weak army" but rather that 24" ranged weapons might prove to be difficult to manage(only the doomsday has more range IIRC). Granted there are lots of fun toys in there. As for my sources, I have a mysterious friend who's already played them. Supposedly though, every codex after Tyranids is made with 6th edition in mind. Let us hope that this is true and not some arbitrary excuse for things looking as they are.

Not that I have much love for Mr Ward but Necrons do seem to be a much better codex than GK. There was also talk that Mat Ward wasn't around during the entire project but meh, I'm getting my own dex on monday(damn weekends getting in the way of my order!).

I guess I'm an optimist.

..

Like the above poster, I think it is entirely possible we get more freedom in our core. Hopefully we get charge back on our puppies too.

Well, from the grapevine at my local GW store (well, the top of the grapevine as it was from the store manager) I was informed that January is to have a very strong zombie theme with all sorts of special store events and games that are zombie related and that this wasn't a choice for stores to make (my store usually runs all sorts of fun mini games and events) but a Directive from GW. Not sure if this adds or subtracts to the vampire rumours. It would support it in that well, we have zombies and this could be an attempt by GW to try a new marketting strategy but such an event has to possibility to stifle out a release and maybe we aren't getting that armybook.

Core Cav sounds good, it may be a nice change.

Danceman they have allot over 24 inches in range now, a few have no range limitations.
Give the book a look over then give your verdict, before then it is off the old rules and no longer applicable.
Also they have skimmers now as well, oh yes and a wraith model that can go in units which makes all foes in combat Initiative 1.... You knew that though right? :innocent:
With invulnerable you will be surprised what they have now.

There are allot of things that are not yet out, either way though you need to sit down for an hour or so and read the codex, just pure filth, 40k though is off topic.

If we get back more troop options like levies I will be happy, still hoping for a rare vamp troop unit.

The only thing suprising was that the wraiths got two wounds and such a low initiative(so the coils are a must). Yes, they have transports and a flier(sadly extremely expencive and have to get close to use its full potential). The annni-barge is another, the most interesting of the HS options, while not tank killers they set up nice charges for wraiths and scarabs. My comment on shooting was incorrect however(completely forgot about Heavy Gauss cannons, Tachyon missiles, for example).

I'd try to skip the condescending tone. Especially, when you're passing on common knowledge. Indeed, after giving me a lecture on respecting people's opinions. I just don't see the filth you're talking about. The main thing that stops it from becoming filth is unit cost.

...

Core infantry could be interesting. Maybe even a type of Alive! light cavalry but I get the feeling GW wants to keep the entire army undead.

I don't see Alive! making a return. They got rid of it (supposedly) for a reason, and I think that the army as a whole is better off for it. Wolves and Bats as real core would be great. Another cavalry choice would be good as well. Basically anything that lets us field something competitive without being Ghouls/Ghouls/Ghouls and Grave Guard, would be awesome!

Hi everyone. New here and this is my first post. I have been playing VC since the last book came out. The few things I see that need addressing are:
4 pt skeles
2-3 pt zombies
A vampire unit on foot (special choice)
Upgrades to our spells
maybe a skeley bowman unit

There are some other things but that pretty much sums up the basics

I reeaaalllyyy hope for a new book soon but I think the Bret's need one first. (don't play that army but have friends that do.):ghost:

I don't think 4 point skeletons will fix anything: if you don't believe me, have a look at the army lists being put up on the Tomb Kings' forum, with their cheaper, easily-buffed skeletons. Mostly, the core is chariots, often with some archers as a baseline and/or horsemen of one of the two kinds for redirecting etc. It's generally agreed that, even at 4 points, skeletons are impossible to synergise with anything else.
