Wow! Great work on the sword and cloak. One bit of CC is to extend stronger contrasts between the light and the dark on the blade, especially on the curvy bits. It looks awesome so far, but adding a little more contrast will really make the NMM effect pop on it!

Thanks for the feedback and for voting. I will start to work with my Grave Guard next. I have the old metallic models with hand weapons and shields and will need some unit fillers too.
@ Redarmy, that's true. I wasn't 100% happy with the sword and I will have to practice on the swords and NMM a lot more with the GG. I'm thinking of doing their weapons NMM in a similiar way and adding some glowing runes to the swords. (Looking very cool in my mind's eye, the finished result is likely to be a complete disaster...)

Began work with first 5 Grave Guard today. That includes the command group and 2 regular blokes. I will be posting pictures when finished, but I'm still playing around with the scheme for them. I think I'll do the banner freehand to add something I've not done before.

Practiced some freehanding on the standard, but now I'm at a loss on how to proceed as I would've liked to include some text too, but there's no space for it.
What should I add to the design? Skeletal wings? Little skulls on the sides? Some runes? Comments and suggestions are very welcome. I think I will continue to paint the other bits until I have a clear idea of what I want to do.

Nice work on the eyes I would suggest either flames or wings. You can check out my PLOG for the wings freehand inspiration. Btw. you can add paper with text under the skull with the fangs being over the paper

I'd agree with the flames or wings thing. Not really enough space for horns unless they're stubby or just go straight out to the sides

When J-C mentioned horns, I immediately imagined some curvy goat-like horns, spiraling down and I think there would just enough space to make them.
I also like the idea of adding the text under the fangs, I have to check if I could fit either or both of the ideas.
I'm also doing a mad science experiment on how to create icicles from household materials. (using glue, pins and Saran Wrap...) If the experiment is a success, you will see the icicles on the finished banner and I will post a tutorial on how to make them.
On some unrelated news, I went to the city to buy some clothes and flowers for my wife (It's our 5th anniversary of a wedding day...) and ended up picking up a box of Black Knights/Hexwraiths.
So I'll be working with some cavalry models after I've done these 5 GG, and then do another group of 5. After a quick glance, I really love what comes inside the box. I'm planning to stretch the one box and make 6 Black Knights and 6 Hexwraiths from it. It also has some perfect pieces for my Grave Guard unit fillers. Om nom nom.

12 guys from the black knight/hexwraith sprue? I thought there were only 10 bodies, heads, pairs of arms etc.

I plan on mounting one of each on a 50x50m monster base with some added scenery, so I can make units of 6 strong with 5 actual models. I'm thinking that hexwraits would be the most effective in units of 6 deployed in 2 ranks 3 wide.
Later on I will buy another box and build the models in a similiar fashion, so I'll have one unit of 12 Black Knights and can field 2 units of 6 Hexwraiths. I'm also toying with the idea that I'd do the same with Fenris Wolves (I just love the models), but that's somewhere in the more distant future.
So now my painting schedule has the Grave Guard and Hexwraiths/Black Knights taking turns and I will have to paint more core troops soon too, so I will start working on the Crypt Ghouls when I get too bored with these.
Finally about the banner, thanks for the tips, you've all been really helpful. I think I might be able to put horns, flames and the text scroll with the unit name on the banner. It will be really difficult, but I just have it pictured in my mind and I want to try it out if I can squeeze everyting in there.

Thanks Reaper, the ideas were really helpful. I was genuinely stuck with what I'd do.
The banner looks even better IRL, as it's only about the size of a stamp, so the edges don't look as messy as they're in the photo.

Santa, they're all 6th editon metallics, with hand weapon/shield. I did some shield-swapping though, but you'll see it when I've finished the first 5 and take photos.
It's actually now just painting the blades and some runes on them (perhaps a little practice with OSL there...) and basing the models.
