Legion of Nagash Rules development thread: The Body and Spirit of Nagash

A. i never said that sigmar could beat nagash seeing as nagash is the most powerful being (at his Hieght) apart from a chaos god so he would crush anything at his hieght

B.i know theres no link now but there used to be its typical GW making the game have no interesting background to make it easier for little kids to buy space marines GW miking the proverbial cash cow

C.have you thought about PDFing this and putting it up for download to make it easier to build an army when its finished

A. DoN was using Sigmar as a reference, as Sigmar defeated Nagash once.

B. I think the background is more interesting without the 40K / fantasy link, if it was there, you could just go,

"Who cares if my race manages to achieve dominance, if they manage to win the struggle that is the warhammer world, Smurfs 'll just glass em claiming they are heretics. "

Without the link it actually makes you care about the stuggles of the world in Warhammer, if it was just another planet in 40k, it means nothing, why care, its just one more insignificant planet among billions in the stuggle against chaos.

Hmmmmm. Well, he certainly looks good...
He's not actually as overpowerd as I thouigh he might me. Just 1 thing though, at the power he is here, he would be, almost without competition, the most powerful character in the game. For that to only take up a Lord and a Rare choice seems off to me, thats what a Runelord with an Anvil would, or a Liche priest with a Casket, and Nagash could destroy either of those. He is a HUGE HUGE HUGE scary monster/god, I think perhaps a Lord, Hero and Rare would be fair. After all, he could probably beat any combination of the 3 you could come up with.

I'm unsure in regards to Marcus's suggestion. Yes he may be powerful, but don't forget that with the slots he uses he also costs a helluva lot of points.

Now ignoring the fluff for the moment please, which version do people prefer? The Spirit & Body or the 4th edition re-write?

as an overall i think the spirit and body is better as it adds a cool twist that no other character to my knowledge has and is not as powerful

I personally prefer the Body/Spirt version as well. It's very characterful and unique.

To me, the 4th edition Nagash seemed like GW just decided one day... "oh here, you can have a greater Daemon too".

Hmmmmm....... well.
I like both profiles, I really do, but I have to say that the Body/Spirit has a certain unique twist to it that I like. But onm the other hand, in a way the simplicity of the 4th ed version also has its appeal, as does Mortis.....
Drat, I have to choose don't I...
In that case... The 4th ed.
In the end, the idea of a 16ft skeletal giant smashing everyone aside is just too good to pass up.

If I may, I'd like to vote for the Body and Spirit. Now, if you guys don't mind I'd like to explain my reasoning (so I don't just come off as being contrary or rude or something). I've got two reasons.

1. I don't know about you guys, but I'm thinking I might try to play some games using these rules. Knowing people these days they're going to, by and large, complain that the 4th Edition Nagash is simply an "I win" button. No matter how many points he costs, no matter how much you try to exlpain, people will be suspicious. For newer players the thought of facing what effectively amounts to a Bloodthirster with unparalleled mastery of magic is going to be a daunting thing and it'll probably get labeled as "cheese" pretty quick. For older players, those who played 4th Edition, some will remember Nagash as being the worst of the "hero hammer" era (or so I've heard in any case).

2. As much as you guys might feel nostalgic about the 4th Edition Nagash, he is similar to several other Nagash's that I've seen statted up around the web and indeed to the rules Games Workshop made for 4th Edition. As for the Body and Spirit rules however, they appear to be totally unique. I've never seen anything like them for Nagash, or indeed in Warhammer at all. They are uniquely Carpe Noctem's (and this project's).

So hopefully that makes sense.

As my be expected, I'm voting for body and spirit as well, though whther I have the right given my general absence I am unsure on

Also, re: seperation of warhammer and 40k universes, try telling that to the guy who wrote the liber chaotica. There are chaos marines in there...

Ok. Given the views so far we are going to go with the Body and Spirit. So can you all please read over the rules a final time and see if there are anymore tweaks or changes that need making.........I don't suppose there is any feasible way to include Mortis in that version?

just to say disicple of nagash could you post the rules for everything that is definetely going in on 1 thread im going to start work on a army builder file for the legion if thats ok

also body and spirit probably could include mortis the spirit could wield it

Doombunny - there is a thread entitled "Things which are certain" in this forum. However I would prefer if you hold off creating an army builder file, as it is far from finished and there are sure to be amendments to it when we come to play testing.

Just out of curiosity, why would it be unfeasible to include Mortis with the Body and Spirit? Unless I'm reading his rules wrong, it looks like the Spirit already benefits from the equipment carried by the Body. I could easily see Mortis following this same pattern. Maybe you could even give him a special rule, something to the effect of "Spectral Armaments" so that there's no doubt in anybody's mind when the PDF army list is released.

You could also give (Body and Spirit combined) Nagash a special rule where he can attack models engaging his unit even if he's not in the front row (which he shouldn't be, for the most part if I'm not mistaken).

That said though, I'm not sure if this would be considered too powerful.

I've just had a look through the rules for the body and spirit a few things:

“which deploy at the same time but can operate independently during the game.”
I thought all characters had to be deployed at the same time anyway

The Spirit of Nagash has a 5+ward
Its nagashs spirit should it not be 4+ at least

One Pinnacle Guard may be upgraded to a Musician for +10 pts
I think the musician should be 8pts

The body
The unit consists of 1 Body of Nagash model (which counts as the four models it displaces for rank purposes-could you just say he has a 40X40 base? what about unit str?) and 11 Pinnacle Guard...
If 4 or less Pinnacle Guard are left the unit cannot move.
I think this bit needs a bit of work as 5guys just standing in front of nagash doesn't look like there carrying him

You could equip one of them with Mortis, probably the Body and even make up some funkier rules for it that suit this non-combat character more.

To be honest, if we are going with the Body and Spirit version I think we should leave Mortis. He looks fine as he is.
