The Awakened

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Wheow, quite a menagerie of various minis you have there. Surely took some time to look through all of this ;) Nice conversions, I am also a big fan of the desert swarm you made there. Should this unit survive the change into the 9th edition, I will surely do something similiar xD

@Borgnine Thanks, the desert swarm was a surprisingly easy conversion for something that looks so cool (IMO, of course)

@Mad 'At Yeah, mold lines are something I've been trying to work on. I've been having problems with the more detailed areas (like those armor plates or the wrinkles a lot of these have around the elbow)

A dire wolf for the warband. Runes on the sword didn't turn out quite like I hoped, but if need be that's easily covered up with rust

DSCN7048.webp

With this out of the way, now there's only 2-3 zombies, some ghouls and the Vargheist left to paint before the warband is done

Looking at the gun on the heavy weapons team, I realized it didn't quite look orky enough. So, using some extra bits from the runt herd, the base of some chaos cultists gun, and some tau energy packs, I scrapped together this thing:

And the Mad Doktor, who serves as one of the squad leaders/soulfire specalist

@Micheal Valdros That dire wolf is cool. Nice swap with using the chaos warhounds, I think it works well.

As for mold lines, all you really need is a sharp craft knife. Some pointers:

-Most areas can be done by running the blade horizontally in the direction of the line.
-You can even use the back side of the blade for larger areas.
-The sharper your blade, the less pressure you should have to apply.
-I only ever use files for skeletons' hands & ribs and sometimes for small creases in clothing.

Two more zombies done. Mold lines should hopefully be a bit better (Aside from the gap between the arm and the body on this first guy. He was already primed by the time I noticed, and I couldn't think of any way to cover that up, sorry about that)

And with that, all 10 of the zombies are done:

With all the zombies done, I figured I'd take a shot of the entire warband in its display case, just to show whats left

Thanks guys!

Got around to painting up the Shade, who was supposed to be a part of the warband, but I kinda forgot about him till now. I really like the way the ghost came out, I think I may just do the ghosts on Nagash like this instead of the way the tutorial tells me, though I guess I'll have to do something that way for comparison.

Happy 4th! I've got a big update this time, since I did a lot of stuff for the Grots

First up is just the regular "guardsmen", which for the most part haven't been converted at all.

I thought it'd be fun to do some warpaint on these guys every once in awhile, just to add a bit more character. This one's covered half his face in blue for luck

And then I've got lots of WIP stuff going on, like this Grenade Launcher (With Soulblaze, which is why he's got the flamer tank)
DSCN7123.webp
DSCN7124.webp

A second grenade launcher, this one is supposed to look like a miniature mortar

The boss himself, carrying the staff he took from the former Runtherd. I might have showed this one already, but I'm not sure.

And finally, my biggest current project, a Waaagh! banner objective Marker/terrain. I plan to neaten up the greenstuff 'cap' on the legs, add some supports between each leg, make a second rope on the top, then create a huge greenstuff banner to throw over the mast.

While I was cleaning out my desk, I found a cool little tank sitting on my bookshelf sitting in a pile of sprue and unbuilt kits, and I thought it'd look cool if I tore it apart and glued a giant cannon on it. So I did that, jammed a grot in there and called it a Leman Russ

Ignore the random scriblings on the scrap bits, its just me testing to see if text will fit

I also found an unbuilt plane back there that I hope to orkify (Grotify?) eventually, but I need to figure out what I'd use that for first

Oh, and made the banner

Cool, He looks like he has been on campaign, out in the weather and on the battlefield for some time. As the storm troopers in Star Wars would say, he isn't a shiny no more.

Finished up two more Heros, which means the warband is basically finished. I decided to scrap the two Ghouls since I didnt really like the way they looked, and they where very rarely used anyway. Which means all I have now is the big shark guy.

After about half a year, I've finally finished up the warband. Its a fair bit bigger than it was when I started (Going from the original 15 to the current 23), and a lot of stuff has been ditched along the way, but I think the finished thing looks great

And, to really strengthen the connection to Ghur, I've decided to give each unit an animal motif. For most of them it'll be something simple like a wolf on the should (Like with this Liberator) but for the more important guys it'll be more obvious (Like a liberator prime having a spirit wolf or the parrot guard up there)

Finished up the first squad of (Sorta?)Guardsmen

Da Mad Dok, Sergeant of the first squad and Soulblaze specialist. The backpack doesn't actually do anything for him, he just thinks the little beeps and flashes it gives off every once in awhile make him look smarter.
DSCN7285.webp

You'll notice he doesnt have any tattoo on his arms like the other ones do. The founders of the rebellion (Da mad dok, a painboys orderly, a kan driver, a warbosses ammo grunt and the actual leader of the revolution) wont be branded, since I think they'll be distinct enough on their own

And a custom Chimera I've started work on
DSCN7421.webp

Since there's a fair number of IG tanks that use the Chimera chassis I figured why not make this one flexible instead of having to make a new thing for each one. The thing on top of this is the beginnings of a Waveryn artillery gun, still gotta add missiles into the pods and add some crew amongst other things
