Last weekend I went too a tournament here in Sweden. And I've had an absolute blast, with 5 amazing games and a few great chats with awesome people. So I thought I could give you a little report on how it all went.
First of, this was my army (please excuse the crappy picture):
The first game I played was against High Elves. A great game with lots of fate changing moments. Mad 'At was sadly ripped to pieces by a stardragon, before he got the chance to cast purple sun on it. Though it was a necessary sacrifice in order to cast Cares of Lhanip (or what ever) on a great eagle nearby, to prevent it from landing on my mangler. Rolled 3 hits, 4+ to wound, all failed... Spear chukka fired, hit, wound... caused two wounds... Fortunately my opponent didn't realize the danger he was in, or he thought he could prevent it until, because he charge the spear chukka with the eagle instead, and my pump wagon with the dragon princes. Only to fail the eagle charge and landing in a place where it blocked the dragon prices charge, causing them to fail. Giving my mangler a free opening to jump through those shiny knight, eating all 9 for breakfast. But the game ended in a loss for my part. The dragon proceeded by ripping most of my army apart in rage.
Then came the voting for best army. I was one of the five to be selected to enter. These were the others (again excuse the crappy pictures):
The second game was against daemons of chaos. It didn't go well... but was fun. The army was a nasty one, with a lord of change with lore of light. But my mangle squig was lucky again and survived both wildwoods and light magic, and even getting a nice meal of bloodletters. The battle was settled when my opponent rolled a lucky killing blow on my general (trickster's helm forced him to re-roll a 5, he got a 6... darn, followed by me failing the 4+ ward save).

My great cave squig, very happy to get a meal... this was before his rider missed all of his attacks.
Third game against OnG, and that is always a promise for fun. His army was much nastier than mine though, with two manglers, two giants, a warboss on wyvern, a few chariots and a few warmachines. My mangler started the game by jumping 17 (!) inches up the field, had he only jumped a inch shorter... Jumping so far made it just possible for his wolf rider to reach him, poor thing. But to be sure of getting his wolves there he had to halt his own manglers movement, sending them back into the board edge. My orcs, with Mad 'At and BSB in it used that opening to fail their animosity test... and rolling a 6 on it. This forced them to attempt a 14" charge across the board into one of his giants... which they completed
The giant was taken down to his last wound before he rolled to strike, only to fall when trying to jump on my orcs. The next turn the manglers were back and jumped through my orcs, rolling terribly and killing 4, only to hit eachother in the next turn. The second giant charged to orcs but was also slain, Mad 'At and his mount did good. The game looked very much in my favor, Mad 'At was killed, but so was his general, and most of his other stuff. The turning point came when my night goblins, with black ors general inside, failed a restrain pursuit test after breaking a chariot. That lead to them getting flank charged by the opponents night goblins. My goblins rolled a 1 when trowing their net, so I had -2 S. My unit broke and was run down. But in the end it was a victory for my.

All of these armies look incredible, very impressive! How can you not be such a good painter when you see around you so many well painted models. Really enjoyed that last post of yours. Thanks for sharing

So to continue from where I left.
I slept in on of the classrooms the tournament had at their disposal, it is not a real tournament unless you sleep on a stone floor
Early in the morning the forth game began. This time it was against lizardmen, an army with an oldblood on carnosaur, an ancient stegadon, a bucket load of skinks, a few saurus warriors and some saurus cavalry with two scar veterans. Mad 'At got lore of heavens, with the comet and the thunderbolt at his dispositional. The scenario allowed us to deploy as little as 9" from each other, which we did. He got the first turn and made sure my mangler would do nothing this game by dropping stone on him with his terradons. He also charged the oldblood, the saurus cav and the stegadon into my orc horde, with general and BSB in it. The stegadon fail the charge, and the others triggered the night goblin fanatics, who got really lucky, killing 5 cav and putting three wounds on the carnosaur. In combat my general slew the carnousar while the orcs killed the rest of the normal cavalry, left was the oldblood on foot and the two scar veterans (one was BSB). The oldblood failed his break test and ran. The rest of the game consisted of me hunting down the rest of his army. Though I didn't get a grasp of most of his stuff, and close to the end his oldblood made a reckless charge into the rear of my big 'uns, followed by the breaking and being run down. In the end it was a mediocre victory for me.

In the lunch break everyone got to enter a model for the best painted model competition, I entered my mangler squigs.
Here are a few of the other entries:
Fifth and last game was against OnG. What was characteristic about this army was he amount of characters in it, 9 in total. It was insane. Otherwise pretty standard, Savage big 'uns, nightgoblins, rock lobber, doom diver, mangler, 2x wolf chariot... mad 'At got lore of life, and flesh to stone and earth blood for spells. The night goblin shaman again rolled useless spells, I never got vindictive glare or itchy nuisance once during the tournamnet, and those are the two best spells in the lore. Anyways, the last game was not very eventful, his warmachines were pretty lucky and killed most of my small stuff, while the orc horde with Mad 'At in it ran over his whole tight flank. My big 'uns got deserted, the trolls they had in sight got beamed away with a hand of gork, that was disappointing. The game resulted in a minor defeat for me.

In the end I made it to place 35 out of 68 participants, my goal was on the top half, darn it...
But I got an award for third best painted army, the best was the one with the dragon and the second best the one with the huge display table.
The single model competition was won by the Orc BSB.

Don't you just feel sorry for the other guy's mangler, having to see you infinitely cooler mangler romping across the field

@CBorn: My mangler got killed way before the opponents, so any feelings I might have had vanished pretty quickly. After that I just felt sorry for my own mangler who didn't get to eat anything. And besides, I kind of like the look of those clown-fish-squigs.

I really like how dark you take the lowlights and how light you take the highlights on your greenskin. Looks awesome. Can't wait to see more.
