Pretty easy choice for me, after Undead became VC/TK most of my forces were of the VC variety already...except 15 metal mummies, screaming skull catapults, and a couple chariots. Honestly I really detested a lot of the VC models they had when they first came out. But since I've picked up 8th I'm falling in love with my army over again...

ALTHOUGH I admit...

I watched The Mummy Returns the other day and I almost ordered some TK pieces. Rachel Weisz in the egyption getup could make me convert anyday! :P

10 things why i play VC and not Tk

1) I love vampires and zombies.
2) We can raise models beyond there starting size
3) i love zombies
4) The models look cooler
5) you could theme your army the way you like.TK is a bit one-sided.
6) i love zombies
7) The fluff is " up to date " not like : in a galaxy far far away, a long long time ago...
8) l really love zombies
9) Who can look at a vampire on a zombie dragon and dont panic?
10) i freaking love zombies

I picked VC over TKs because when I was a little kid I used to play Undead.

I then stopped, and came back to it more recently, at which point I just felt that Vampire Counts were more like the army I remembered than what Tomb Kings were.

My brother took up playing Tomb Kings which is quite cool, adds a bit of fluff to the games between us and our views on the warhammer world lol

I started out with the unified undead army in 4th ed. When the split came I would only be giving up 4 units, mummies, skeleton horsemen (easily converted to mounted wights), chariots, and catapults. So for variety sake I kept with the vamps, also vampires are easier to identify with from a folklore/pop culture standpoint.

My gaming group's info was outdated and by shosing "Undead" I got VC. Tomb kings weren't out for another year. That being said, I grew to love the fluff.

Actually, when I started playing Warhammer I didn't have a choice... xD

My army were the Undead, as a single force. I chose them because I loved the idea of an individual challenging entire armies or even nations thanks to his magic powers (at the time, Necromancer Lords were the "regular" army general for Undead; Vampire Counts and Liches were more "exotic", and the fluff was often told from a Necromancer's POV - think Dieter Helsnicht or Heinrich Kemmler).

When GW decided to split the armies, I had most of the models that are needed today for Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings. So now I play both armies, even if I find the VC's much more fun to play.

And hey everyone :)

Way more modeling opportunities with VC. And the Army of Sylvannia list in the Storm of Chaos was fantastic for my 'undead dwarf' theme I used to run.

I really enjoy both, but Vampire counts seem to ring out more for me. While at some point I maybe start a TK force (or Barrow Kings, some cool fluff there), I find the appeal of massed skeletons backed up my Vampire Knights pretty epic, plus the old Tomb King models are really showing their age.

im in the old school here as it was just undead when i started
but i have to say that i have both tk & vc armys
on battlion boxes at present both set up very diffrently
VC is the better army for me a massed zombie horde
Tk was themed on the mummy film
i just love the look of the corpse cart and zombies
iam even converting some old models ive got to zombies

The possibility to convert them in to any theme. I can just pick up any model that I like, and still make it fit in to my VC army.

I love the high gothic theme of the vampires; the idea of a self-involved supernatural creature who has spent centuries hiding behind the veil of society in his lonely stone tower, waiting and planning and all the while growing stronger until he is ready to strike and he unleashes a shambling horde of the long dead.

I actually play both Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings and I like each for their distinctiveness. I do love the gothic feel of Vampire Counts. Naturally, I love the vampires and I still hope that they'll bring back bloodlines.

To me TK had little to no draw. It wasn't really the idea of UNDEAD that appealed to me. It was VAMPIRES specifically. I've always been a fan of classic vampire lore, and the idea of an army of animated corpses controlled by the will of a single powerful (dracula-esque) vampire got me hooked instantly.

Anyone remember a game on playstation/pc called Dark Omen? It was a warhammer fantasy rts, and the worst enemies you fought were the undead and the vampires. Hearing the chilling accounts given to you of pale faces staring in through windows at night and etc sent a chill up ones spine, and fighting the undead was a really creepy and disturbing experience for me in the game. The idea that the orc invasion at the start of the game was actually the orcs fleeing from the undead..... then the later events, like the desperate battle to rescue a lady before she was given the blood kiss... that game was a big influence on me for the vampire counts.
To me, the vampire counts (and nagash/the undead) are the purest manifestations of dark magic, evil and death itself. The vampires (and the various wights/wraiths/etc) are ancient beyond imagining, and the skeletons/grave guard/wight miniatures evoke a feeling of being ancient warriors risen from antiquity, possibly from before sigmar himself. One can only wonder and imagine what civilisations the skeleton and grave guard were from when they were alive, before they were buried beneath ancient barrows and tombs.

Before I started with warhammer I played a lot of Magic: the gathering and my favorite color was black, I loved the spells it had like the skeletons and zombies and vampires and what not and of course spells like pox, pestilence, fear, terror, dark ritual etc etc.
A few of those mtg players played WHFB and introduced me to it, but non of the armies they played could get my interest until some one showed me some pictures in the battle book of chaos and undead. I was hooked it was as if the card game came to life in this miniature game.
Then I was hooked on undead.
I took a break from the game shortly after Tomb Kings was released, I had picked up an army box of it and some extra's so I had the Classic Undead pieces, some vampire counts stuff a friend gave to me when he quit and the TK I bought. As I'm getting back to the game now I think Vampire counts catches most of the essence that got me interested in the first place, so I'm staying with it for now until I get the desire to expand.

I started so long ago, I still have and use the pre-GW citadel models from D&D. I had undead, put them away to play space marines, then tyrranids, lizards and elves popped up, but now back to my old , dead pals. It's strange, we have 15 different fantasy and 40k armies between us, but nearly always play Vampires vs High Elves, Dwarves, or Orcs & Goblins. But we do play silly big games- 2500 points of just the mounted O&G is not too unusual. That is a frightening sight to have lined up against you, but my w/d/l ratio is fairly equal. 30 Black Knights helps. So why- don't really remember, but I love playing them.

Thinking about it. I must admit it was when I saw some models posted up in some competition. And from there on I just fell in love with them.

Always loved vampires and werewolves, just the whole story of it.

Short and sweet of it, the darkness and the story behind them got me hooked!

Because I'm not big on mummies, pyramids etc. For me it the Gothic Horror, undead, vampires, dark csastles, mad scientists etc etc...

And I hate sand.

From the time I was a little monster watching Hammer Films I thought Christopher Lee rocked as Dracula and wanted him to win but he was always defeated. Now I paint little monsters, push them around tables and I'm always defeated.....

There is something appealing about living in a forboding castle, having pet wolves and being nasty to ignorant peasants. The life of a mummy? Not so much.

For me it was the fact that vampires are my favorite creature that goes bump in the night. I also think that most egyptian things look clowny and a bit stupid which is why I never bought thousand sons for my chaos army and also why I think most of the new necrons look bad.

I've always been into vampires. Somehow I see them as dark avengers, powerful and unforgiving. They are the masterminds behind undead invasions and relentlessly ambitious. Dark and twisted, yet creatures of monstrous cunning and intelligence.

I've played a lot of Dark Ages Vampires pen-and-paper RPG with my friends and I like the setting of the old World of Darkness game. I also play the Vampire CCG and usually try out every computer game that has undead or vampires in it.

Nowadays vampires are in a bit of decline though, with all these teenage dream Twilights and such.

The vampires have more depth and character, I find. They're more compelling, and it isn't hard to imagine a fitting back story for your force. TK, on the other hand seem very cut and dried (pun intended on the dried). They're all the same, whereas vamps don't necessarily like each other, and they're divided into different cliques. All in all, just seems like there's more to VC overall.
