Like Veelckoo, I was playing before they split the army. As I always liked vampire tales (the old stuff, not stuff from Ann Rice) It was really a simple choice!
Then 2 years ago (I think) I started to raise my army again, this time using Mantic stuff for the most part, deliberately getting away from the Bat wing motif and the Zombie Jazz hands...

I personally went for VC because I like the rules, models and playstyle more then other armies (I've had 2000 points of HE, Dwarfs, Beastmen and VC, and VC's are the only army I enjoy playing, painting and ushc.)

it is a case of a childhood fear turned near obbsession as a pick up every vampire related thing i see ( i had to dip my hand in acid when i touched twilight). when i saw the rules i clicked with the 'raise new troops' idea and then it stuck.

I was tempted to get TK, but an army of shambling dead with bats and wolves and creatures seemed a lot more fun than a bunch of wonk egyptian looking skeletons.

Who's saying I had to choose between them? Of course I've got both! Although I'm playing less with the Khemrian undead, since I'm currently performing a whole lot better on tournaments with the Vamps.

In order:
Necromancers
Wights
Wraiths

The vampires really aren't a draw for me, plus, really, I'm good aligned, honest. It's recycling!
By the way... *gestures to the line of zombies* Your mother wonders why you never come to visit anymore!

If I ever make a second army though, it will likely be Tomb Kings, or possibly Skaven.

Vampires have always been "the main badguys" since day one of horror movies. And who doens't like playing as those guys?!

We as a society have been introduced to how vampires act and work with the magics of necromancy as the movies and games developed.

For me, it was watching a vampire count army being able to wipe out an army twice it's size, and being able to imagine it all take place. I haven't ever seen tomb kings do this yet. I was young, and when I saw this, I had my heart set on the vampires. :)

I started playing only a couple of months ago. I saw the Mortis Engine model and fell in love. Besides that, I've always had a soft spot for the Vampires... They're just a bad ass horror kind of monster.

Prefer the models mainly, seeing the Terrogheist and Coven Throne made me want to collect VC.
Not a fan of a lot of the TK stuff.

The cost of getting alternative models like the Mantic range played a part too, I cannot afford 100 GW zombies + 100 GW skellies etc, they simply charge too much for such troops.

I had the VC book before they were split, always liked them, just never got round to buying them, this edition was an oppertunity to do so.

Hey,

For me it was mostly because my friend already played TK. And I saw that it was not an army for me. And I liked the look of the VC. and theire magical potential, next to that its hilarious to run a single ethereal model agianst a sphinx and just let them stay there for the rest of the game :P

for me it was all about the zombies. An army that can have hordes of the shambling dead always win in my book :)

ut i also enjoy the look of the VC. Dont get me wrong I'm a fan of the egyptian style the TK's are rocking but its abit to much bone for my liking, atleast with VC i get to paint a variety of things rather than the masses of bleach bone and statues :)

I was playing long before the two armies were split. I had well enough to field either armies-heaps of undead chariots, mummies, carrion and screaming skull catapults.

Man, some of those miniatures were dodgy. The catapults were tiny, you would mount them on 40mm bases!

I was only thinking about my Mummies the other day though. From memory they were 50 points each, WS3 S6 T5 W4 flammable. I used to run a unit of 8, the true monsterous infantry of yesteryear. God I miss those sumbitches

Also, it was before GW hiked their prices and you could get 3 mummies in a blister.

A few years back I found one of the old Skeleton Horde box sets in my loft and it was either sell it or start an army...

I just sold the last of them and am restarting the army with Mantic skellies, which makes me a little sad but times change...

As for TK, they never really crossed my mind. I love some of the models but the whole Egypt thing clashes a bit with the core Medieval Europe shtick which dominates WH. And I already had that problem with my Lizzies...

I write vampire fiction. I love vampire movies, zombie movies, and am a long time Old World of Darkness player and game master. Picking VC was a given when my friends in my 40k group talked my into playing fantasy.

There are several reasons why I picked Vampires over Tomb Kings:

Firstly, my favourite things in any army are the Lords and Heroes, so one of my biggest considerations was Vampires and Necromancers vs Tomb Kings and Liche Priests. Now, for me, Vampires were an easy choice. I like the idea of a single general, who can encompass both a powerful fighter, and a strong spellcaster. I know that this isn't always the most advantageous configuration, but I find the idea very appealing. In addition, as someone who likes spending a lot of points on his Lords, I loved the idea of having an additional pool of Vampire Powers to spend points on.

Also, whilst I don't mind the rank & file troops being slow and unskilled, I really wanted my Lords to be the opposite. And, whilst Tomb Kings are only slightly less skilled to Vampires, their initiative really lets them down on this front. Furthermore, I'm particularly fond of Lords and Heroes who are able to heal themselves. For this, Vampires have The Hunger, and the awsome Lore Attribute of Lore of the Vampires.

Also... they're [undefined=undefined]Vampires[/undefined]. They're just so much cooler than Tomb Kings - which basically amount to blinged-out Mummies.

As an aside, the main things I like about Tomb Kings, compared to Vampire Counts are:

- Able to augment troops without using magic (it's nice to be able to attach a Tomb King, Tomb Prince and/or Necrotect to a squad, and give said squad WS6, WS5, Hatred, respectively, without worrying that a bad magic phase will spell the end of those bonuses).

- Skeleton Archers (Much as I like the image of a shambling horde, it would be nice to have a bit of ranged firepower. This is especially true, since our skeletons are currently stuck between zombies and ghouls, but lack the staying power of the former, and the combat ability of the latter).

Anyway, as someone who likes monsters, Vampire Counts have two really good ones, in the form of the Varghulf and Terrorghiest. The Tomb King Sphinxes are ok, but I really dislike how they look, and just don't find them anywhere as interesting as a vampire-wolf or an undead bat the size of a dragon.

Finally, I really love both the VC models, and just how the army looks in general. I really love the Gothic styles, and the colours. On the other hand, I really hate how the Tomb Kings look. Seriously. I find it hard to put into words just how much I despise their aesthetics. I find them far too... shiny (if that makes any sense). Also, I understand that they're meant to be kings buried with their treasure, but (much like the new Necrons) I just feel that they're covered in far too much crap. Even their Tomb Guard wear more gold than most living kings, and some of the models look like a coral reef on legs. I don't know, maybe I'm alone in this, but the sheer amount of gold and general shininess just makes it very difficult for me to take them seriously.

Also, I like bats...

Hey I'm kinda new here too but I started collecting vampires for a few reasons.
I used to only play 6th since I disliked the rules and I played mainly Chaos (the mix) and LM but I did collect a few other armies as well of which the TK were one. I was attracted to the constructs (Ushabti) and also a bit the burrow ability of the scorpion, etc. The TK didn't really do it for me, though. They felt so.. boring. Fluffwise, anyway. Hence, when 7th came out I picked up the VC book and collected a few models. I soon realised I really disliked the rulings for 7th, though so I switched back to 6th. The TK were hardly ever played still, though. Now when I finally decided to read up on 8th about 4 days ago, I really liked the new rulings, much more than 6th OR 7th. Then I decided to check up on the new VC book and I fell in love. :D
I've always been a big fan of fantasy and dark fantasy in particular. Vampires FTW.
Especially those lores that mix the 'upperclass' vamps (Von Carstein/Blood Dragon and maybe Necharch abit) with the hulking abominations (Strigoi). I'm more a fan of the latter than the former, though! Enter the SGK, my new favourite unit in the game along with maybe his possible mount (as a Rare choice though, speaking game terms!).
Skeletons never really attracted me that much anyway, and TK doesn't really have many other undead than skeleton humanoids, skeleton scorpions, skeleton giant, skeleton scarabs, etc etc. I much rather prefer the Zombies, Ghouls, Wraiths, etc. Much more interesting than those skinless brats! (ok wraiths might be abit skinless  )

Cheers!
