... it's almost like deployment is a game of chicken: "If I stop deploying now, is my opponent going to be a dick and put out 5 bloodthirsters?"

Yeah, I thought a lot about that as well.
It'll probably be quite like our sandbox games we had with our MotU toys in 1982. :|

Otherwise, like you put it yourself .... game of chicken:

O God, I came back just to see the GW fan boys what would say about this shitstorm called the age of suckmar...
Man,you 3-4 gw wannabes give me the chukles....
I'm honestly happy everything is going towards the disaster.
This is a great opportunity to take all the really good and serious mathammer players and make up a custom Whfb 8.5 with some modification and stop buying expensive, useless crap from GW (Nagash, anyone? Is he doing good on your shelf?)
Ofc this game is gonna die as Rakham did,but slower and I forseen,in a more dignified way.
Reselling is still gonna go on,WYSIWYG is going down the toilet, more mixed army from different competitors and mostly, people that have an hobby, not an addiction to buy the latest, biggest, most expensive toy. People grow the fuck up.
For all the rest, the Plastic Republic of China will save us all.
I see you Saturday ;)

Wait wait wait... The models we have seen so far allow units of 1+... Really??? So if I have 30 custodi-I mean sigmarines I can make them into 30 units of 1. You are only ever affected by battleshock when your unit has any casulties.. So all my stuff is immune to battleshock, and it's a completely legal thing to do.

wow

The more you read into it, the more stupid it becomes.

My friend runs a miniature store and GW gave given him a bit up front information to help sell the new product.
From what he has been told 8th edition and end times are not changing any time soon and AOS is a skirmish game only with rough rules which are quick to play, its designed for fun and not competitiveness, GW don't like that even if the community does and now even their tournaments are not based around how many games you win.

Now you have to remember the Hobbit/ LOTR's licencing is running out and not selling, this is their replacement and for the time being we are still good.
We are just being side liked as a smaller game while GW milks the 40k Cash cow.

It doesn't matter how you put it, this still feels like a terrible betrayal. Also they could have salvaged Warhammer if they really tried but they didn't. All they had to do was change the pricing (lower it), write some actual solid rules that weren't stupid like 8th edition was, more like 6th / 7th-without-the-demons-or-necromancer-spam, and open up to the community with frequent press releases and interviews as well as playtesting and feedback. Instead they went further into their little shell / bubble.

Well, I'm in for a 8.5 tunning of Warhammer.

I'm willing to absorb what I consider an upgrade to certain rules, and patch what would be left unanswered by GW. Maybe we can create a more balanced and very fun to play game, merging some existing concepts.

(By the way, Nagash won't stand a chance against 14 goblins now, since they all have a 4+ to Hit and a... let's say 4+ to Wound, even if Nagash gets a 3+ save, he can still die pretty easily now because of fixed To-Hit and to-wound rolls, even if he ends up having 10 wounds. Or, he'll be Arcane Bolted to death by an army of all-wizards, using their Ghal Maraz-spells; this is to add to the flaws of this edition).

That aside, let's consider that, if GW was so eager and willing to drastically change their rules for Warhammer once, maybe after a very bad month of sales, they'll re-think their game rules, and like 40k, will have two editions released within... what was it? a year?

If anything, the company is telling us they are willing to change to keep on going... so, maybe we'll have to tell them!

Yes, if someone fixed Steadfast so that it can be broken by flanking and made cavalry decent along with toning down the OP spells, we'd be fine.

And keep the Break test as is in current AoS (Leadeship/Bravery - [Casualties + D6] +1 for every 10 models remaining) to determine what models flee, but not the whole damn unit!

That's actually what I like about AoS.

That would defeat the purpose of changing steadfast in that way though because then your unit would still be standing there, so they'd all be practically Unstable, and it would not change anything. The point of changing the Steadfast rule like that is to make it more tactical not less. It would still promote gigantic units so that they would not shift, and allow you to trap the enemy easily, negating the purpose of cavalry, just like in standard 8th.

I think Infernal's idea is the best way to handle it tbh, but maybe +2 instead of +1, but that it can be broken by having a unit in the flank.

Yeah really Sigmar for me is one of the most uninteresting characters in Warhammer. He's just this "i'm so manly with my chiselled abs and giant p-i mean hammer" uber-manly manly man Conan the barbarian ripoff. It was always about him and Chaos anyway, just like 40k is all about the Emperor and Chaos, Nagash and the undead were always the sideshow, which sucked, until the crap that is AoS happened and made it all irrelevant.

And still they cannot have any female or remotely feminine models in their range, it all has to be supermen in muscle-armour and manliness and beards and shit. Or if they do have females they have to be scantly clad like Witch Elves, or elves in general, but never humans.

It's not even a game anymore anyway, it's basically just "we sell these pretty miniatures, here's some half-arsed not-rules and a crap story someone wrote at the pub, possibly while drunk, so buy them now." The "Stormcast Eternals" are literally Space Marines, what the hell is the point, why not just play 40k? Why are they even bothering anymore with Fantasy they might as well just delete it all off their site and only sell 40k, they're basically doing it by proxy here anyway.

GW are dead to me now.
I feel the same way... Can Battle Sisters get no updates???

I'm trying to keep an open mind and will wait until saturday before I say too much but those unit names sound so ridiculous. Retributors, prosecutors, liberators... I can see it working for space marines but not in a fantasy setting. Bloodstoker, blood warriors, bloodreavers... "bloodsecrator"

Yep, also, the formations have no limit on unit sizes.

To me it looks like they are eliminating army lists all together and going with formations only, more of which will probably be released as time goes on, but without fixed unit sizes how the hell are you supposed to work out how many models you use? Oh yeah, by chatting to your opponent.
