Age of sigmar

Ahh Mannfred...

how I'll send you flying in the middle of this Age of Sigmar, and watch you eat a whole lot of Mortal Wounds.

See what your greed has brought to us? Did you see what you did, boy?

Age of Sigmar is all Mannfred's fault. And we should blame him here :D

So the countdown's begun, 24 hours unti we get the answers we need? I reckon we've seen it all now, all that's left is to playtest it, maybe GW will try to gauge the response before modifying their 'living rules'; maybe this release will herald a new approach to relations with the fanbase?

I highly doubt it. If anything they've become even more insular.

I kbow for certain that I've got them now! I make war the old fashioned way. You know, using the technology available; not having GODSAWFUL FELL BAT MODELS cramping my style... Standard procedure ;)

@Undying Scourge, please refrain from making posts like this again. Your (and many others) disappointment with AoS has been noted but we still want constructive discussions.

So what constitutes as constructive in your opinion then?

The fact of the matter is that Age of Sigmar IS going to be rubbish. GW have insulted all the fans of Warhammer and are now replacing it with a nonsensical, non-functioning pile of rubbish. They have put Space Marines in Fantasy. But the worst thing is that the game doesn't even make any sense. How can anyone be positive about this unless they are constantly half-drunk? It is impossible to be positive and constructive when GW are so cynical and destructive themselves in what they do and how they treat their loyal fanbase and customers.

When you think about it, it's only really possible for someone to like this tripe if they were never interested in WHFB in the first place, which is exactly what GW are trying to do. They are trying to throw out all their old fans, the old lore, the old GAME, and bring in ADHD kids and derplords who will buy without thinking on an impulse.

They are ruled by uncaring business scum who only care about money, not creating a fun and welcoming environment or community, or fostering it, or promoting it, instead they pass themselves off as "a model company" - if that were the case they wouldn't even have these rules, as bad as they are. They lie, they always remain distant, they treat their customers like peasants, they treat their employees like peasants, they are draconian and they are, in my opinion, doomed.

I will celebrate the day their wretched company finally breathes its last and dies the death it deserves.

Full scan of the new White Dwarf, should be Everything you need to get an opinion atm, but as others Point out, there just have to come some kind expansion to play fantasy battles at some kind of equal terms, otherwise this game will go the way of the Dodo.

Constructive doesn't mean positive, just helpful. A simple "No, not that we know at this point" would have been a perfect answer to the question.

Many are unhappy with how GW have been handling things now and for a long way back but it is what it is. We'll just have to wait and see how this new game will be received by the market.

Oh, how did I miss this post, I will of course wait till I see some games/feedback, but I will more than likely order the new KoW rulebook and pick up an 8th edition rulebook from ebay (still using my friends). Do not like the round bases in the slightest.

Whilst I completely agree with this sentiment, there's not much we can do at the moment to be overly 'constructive'.

The rules for the AoS game have been leaked in full, and even if we don't know about all the 'Warscolls' for the other races and if or how we'll see some means of army (warband) organization either by FOC, a points system or a different method, we can yet form our opinion about those basic rules. No need to discuss them now (or again), we're all long-term WHFB players and I assume everyone posting here has read the AoS rules.
So, it is perfectly reasonable to either like these rules, have a neutral disposition towards them, or call them a piece of smelly waste.

And yes, we should be constructive as a community about the future of our beloved game WHFB.

If there are no more rules forthcoming from GW that'll make AoS playable as a mass battle system or something even remotely usable for tournament play, then we should do everything we can to keep WHFB alive.
For example by having the various faction-specific forums (you know, Carpe Noctem, Asraii, Herdstone, Ulthuan .... etc.) work and stick together !

... but it is what it is. We'll just have to wait and see ...

That's the approach that never leads to anything.
Patience is a virtue, but just sitting everything out isn't.
I full heartedly agree that we have to wait 'til we have all the facts, but then the time for fresh thinking, new ideas and action will be upon us (because at the moment, these rules we have seen, seem to be even worse that those of power-creep 40k).

Peace.

As a final thought before the release of Undead and everyone's warscrolls:

The rules for this game are both free and electronic. Which means they can be patch-eable quite easily without having to have a FAQ! So... maybe, they can MMO this game by applying constant updates (unlikely, I know, given the history of GW company-customer communication), yet as stated before, if they are daring enough to change this much about the game, maybe some other policies will as well.

I don't think they're going to settle with just releasing new minis every 1-2 months. I think (or hope) they'll have us on the hook, visiting their page or Warhammer related pages awaiting new stuff that may very well not be just miniatures, but evolving in general.

Updateable rules... could be a thing!

Taking the opportunity to vent displeasure in the face of anyone who opens their mouth is never a helpful behaviour. When someone asks a question you should answer with something related to it.

That's the approach that never leads to anything.

It really is all that we can do right now, though. GW has made it abundantly clear that they don't listen to feedback except from the wallet. The customers are going to show what they think of this new game and perhaps there'll be yet another change in direction if it doesn't pan out as well as they hope.

I like your post, Mr. West, but we need to weather the storm before we can decide what to do about any of this.

The only direction I can see if this doesn't pan out is the death of GW's fantasy line altogether, persisting only as IP to be licensed out to video and board games. I don't think the bean counters will allow another shot at this, which is why the insane decision to leave army construction and balancing entirely up to the ability of players to come to a mutual agreement, without any sort of foundation upon which to build that agreement, is just so flabbergasting to me. More then anything else, that seems likely to kill this game before it even has a chance to get started.

It's a decision so absurd that I still have a hard time believing its actually true. I mean, we'll see once and for all tomorrow, but after reading the rules, the sudden death bit, and the starter box battlescrolls, I just don't see where a system for making this game actually playable as a game could be hiding.

Yeah I 've got them too! old Catapults from before the split, just wanted to make sure I could use them.

To answer your question, Lord Elpus, the rumors (many of them based on retail owners talking with their GW sales reps) say that EVERY existing model is supposed to get a warscroll with its new AoS rules.

The warscrolls for the armies should be up on the GW site on July 4th. (Maybe as early as Midnight tonight.)

However, I've seen other info (allegedly from an unhappy and soon-to-be-quitting GW Studio staffer) claiming that they're not all done, and they haven't really been tested for balance very much.

My prediction is that we'll see scrolls for the most popular stuff and all the "core units" in the armies right away, and maybe the rest will catch up in the near future.

With regard to Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts, I'd wager that they won't make a distinction between "TK Skeletons" and "VC Skeletons" anymore. We'll just have "Skeletons" and maybe they'll have the option for Hand Weapon & Shield, Spear & Shield, or Bows. Still don't know if that would be a few separate scrolls, or one scroll with the option to choose one weapon load out.

If I had to guess, the warscrolls for prior factions probably won't have been play tested at all, probably not even getting a second read from someone other than whoever was tasked with writing the scrolls for a particular faction. Nor would I expect prior factions to get any formations, meaning they'll most likely compare very poorly to new stuff, apart from one or two broken things that make it through because nothing was tested.

If might be hoped that these digital scrolls will eventually be updated and re-balanced based on feedback, but... I mean, that's really not GW's style.

Fortunately for us, we are, more or less, one of the supported new factions, or at least it seems like we will be, so there's that at least.

From what I have seen it seems the scenarios in the starter box cover which models is used in a battle. So I guess it is possible that force organization is covered by the scenario. I hope so at least, though I am getting the feeling this is a narrative game rather than a competative one. There might be limits even if they are not in the base rules.

Honestly I would be fine with this release if not for my worry about the lack of points. I do like the new setting as I am a sucker for Norse Mythology. Also seems like that Nagash model I bought a while ago will still be of use as he still seems to be the God of Death, seems Nagash got what he wanted all along.

I also have an intrest in the new angelic force, I just hope the rules will be solid enough to be enjoyable, in worst case scenario I am considering using those models for other games. (Blood Angels in 40k comes to mind).

Fortunatly nothing prevents us from playing 8th edition if thing does go wrong. I never played in GW stores anyway so I don't really care if the game is officially supported.

As far as official support goes, I don't see it being a very drastic change. Years between new armybooks for a faction was already the norm. GW hasn't bothered with faq's for some time now. And their support of tournament play is nonexistent.

So in reality, there's not much that's changed.

Just read the white dwarf write up on the app. All the "rules" are going to be given away with it as well as a free stormcast eternal. Not bad for the price of white dwarf.

Your money is yours to spend, and you can do with it what you wish, but come on, think about this. You should be boycotting this atrocity. It's the only way GW will listen anyway.

"Not bad for the price of White Dwarf". White Dwarf is nothing but an advertisement... that you PAY FOR. Also, what are you going to do with a single Space Marine? It's designed to just suck you into buying the box set. PLUS, YOU CAN ALREADY READ THE WD ONLINE SINCE IT WAS LEAKED!

People just fall for their schemes so easily.

Also regarding the not-rules, GW are not going to update the rules often at all. I highly doubt they will suddenly change and start listening to feedback. They're extremely isolationist - Tom Kirby's Failed State, Gamesworkshopistan - and it is still his, since he rules from behind the scenes - does away with all "defeatists" and "reactionary groups" and promotes "aggressive expansion".

The sky is falling. The end has come. All is lost.

For me, the lack of regimental and no point values are very frustrating. I like the idea of simple rules and the living system of war scrolls and all the mechanics online and free. The lore is intriguing me and the models are pretty amazing. Yes, even the Stormcast. They are the souls of dead humans taken by Sigmar and given new life as his daemons, being reborn each time they die but losing their humanity little by little. That's pretty awesome.

Still, I understand and feel everyone's anger over this.

In the long term, a system like this is ideal for the game. It removes so many barriers to entry that if there game takes off, new players can hop in nearly effortlessly. That is a good thing.

Likewise, 4 pgs of rules isn't bad if those rules are easy to learn and difficult to master. Something akin to chess. Before you denounce the rules, there is complexity in there. Weapons, units being put into combined formations, positing, holding objectives, all will matter in this game. The rules allow for some interesting real life tactics because of how free form they are. Spears can fight over another unit, cavalry can do hit and run, units can be put into all types of shapes and control places on the board. It may not be perfect, but there is apply in such a small set of rules.

Also, already ideas are going around about tournament play. One or more battalions and 50 total wounds is one idea for example.

Then there is the fact that this is a starter set, that Darnok on warseer swears a big book is coming in August, that GWs own ads for Age of Sigmar have stated this game will have a new type of e-book... All points to way more coming still. I don't think we have all the pieces yet.

There is a chance we are looking at starter rules. The FLGS only know what their reps tell them, and the GW reps only know about a week or two ahead. No one who would leak knows what is coming in August yet.

Likewise, that statement from a disgruntled GW employee was fake. I saw the leak, and he flat out said there 9 realms are not part of the setting and was a false rumir, but they are. There are eight realms tied to the winds of magic and the reason of chaos. The nine realms are dead center in the leaks of the setting book.

There is so much unknown and misinforming. We need to wait things out to see the whole picture. 8th edition will still be there and can still be played in the meantime. Likewise, it won't kill any of us to try Age of Sigmar and see what is good and what is bad about it. The game is free, I mean come on.

Personally, I'm waiting to see the warscrolls then playing it a bunch before I decide if it's for me. I will even wait till august to see if a more robust rule system surfaces. Then if I don't like it, I will keep playing 8th, sans end times magic and unbound rules.
