It's basically just administratum grey and black as a base layer, then edges with just the grey then a final wash of nuln oil over it to pull it together. Nothing fancy! :D

I don't play Age of Sigmar, but I do love GW models enough to paint their fantasy range still.

I've realised I have taken pictures of this assuming it was finished when I haven't completed the sword. When I eventually add the snow effects I will take another pic.

I love undead, I was planning an elite force with Nagash at the centre but I am not so sure anymore. The truth is I just like painting the models, so I decided to give myself a break from 40k (specifically my Word Bearers) and crack on with this!

Ta man!

I am still learning the ropes with painting undead, so hoping to get better. They are much more fiddly than Chaos Marines! :D

Ta man! :D

I think the very close pictures help highlight the failing in my painting skills :D

I wouldn't say I am rushing these (they don't take that long to paint) but the metal work on them isn't amazing. I just don't have the urge to fix it because I eventually want to add snow to the base and to the top layers of the model to show they are marching through a blizzard.

I have no idea how I am going to do this, but that's kinda the point. All one big experiment! :D

Another Wight done!

I really appreciate the comments guys, very encouraging!

Well, the hardest job has been finished on the Wight squad.

The banner bearer!

The hope is to have snow on top of the banner and such. Hopefully it will help pull the model together!

@Malicht Nice work mate, that banner has turned out nicely. It's nice to see someone else's take on it as I'm about to detail the same banner in the coming weeks.

I'm not sure how your snow effect will turn out on the minis, but I'm sure it'll look nothing short of great on the bases. Your army reminds me of Scourge from Northrend (if you've ever played World of Warcraft). I love the theme and must admit I was pretty close to going for snow/ice basing (our army colours, but opted for my autumn theme for the colours in the end. If I had gone for snow basing, I think our armies would have looked quite similar as our colours are almost the same :)

Keep up the nice work!

I wasn't really sure what to do on the banner, so when in doubt do a skull! :D

It's not amazing freehand, but it's better than just a blank banner I suppose.

And it's funny you mention wow, because the scourge are a semi inspiration. I also just love the idea of the cold dead rising from snow laden graves. The imagery really appeals to me (and is a perfect excuse to work out how to do decent looking snow).

Speaking of blizzard games, your undead's colour palette reminds me of the Diablo 3 undead in act one. It's kinda a nauseating browny colour which you do really well :D

I really wish I could do more with my undead as the force really appeals to me. But AoS feels so hollow whenever I have played it, and I am by my nature a narrative gamer. We tried all sorts to get it to work because my gaming group are complete GW fans (and not ashamed to say so). But it just blows :(

I am not dissing on anyone who likes it or GW as a company, but it seems like a far cry from the stuff that got me into the hobby about 20 years ago :(

Just a group photo and a pic of the banner head on. Nothing amazing but was asked for it in another forum!

I much prefer these desktop photos to the lightbox. Or well, I prefer the black background pics. Loads of light just flushes all the detail away in my opinion.

Okay, the whole squad is done, and with added snow. I will take a full squad pic tomorrow.

However I wanted to share this with you!

The snow took ages. I mean, ages. It was drying as soon as I mixed it together, so I was having to mix and paste super quick.

Quite happy with how it turned out. Not sure I would use the technique for a whole army mind.

Not sure how I missed this plog before @Malicht but it's pretty sweet. Some great photos to go along with some excellent painting skills. Close pictures are daring, especially in the res you have, but your work is great with some really cool colour combinations and some excellent soft highlighting. I particularly like the banner, is that all freehand?

Yeah I know what you mean about the pics. I'm still learning the ropes so to speak with painting undead so whilst the camera can be cruel, it's all a learning curve!

And yep, all freehand on the banner. There's isn't a great deal there but I knew I was gonna try and cover it with snow so didn't want to put crazy amounts of time into just to have it obscured! :D

WONDERFUL! The snow looks great and it compliments the blues on the wight very well. I liked the ashen ground they had on the bases, but this is even better

Ta man, they aren't all full snow, so some of the ashen ground still shows through on some of them! :D

Well, here is the final group shot of my Grave Guard/Wights.

This has been a fun project, something different to my Word Bearers or Ultramarines which allowed me to experiment with how to do snow.

I eventually used Water effect with bicarbonate of Soda. It was a nightmare to apply, but the effect looks pretty good!

I am not entirely sure if I am honest. I just know it's what I want to do next, so I will do my best to try and find a way! :D
