I have always used 2 units of 5 instead of 1 unit of 10. They are fast cav and move nicely for taking out war machines and chariots. Not to mention it is more distraction for your opponent. And it gives you another drop in the deployment phase.

I dont think its all that bad. Just know your enemy and keep in mind that its out there. Have ways to test for it before committing your VL to combat with it. Bound items, screams, and cheap missile spells work good for this.

you know you only loose one attack and one stomp but pick up a rank bonus if you field them 3 wide. You also decrease the number of attack backs that they will be facing.

I like the idea of the weapon on a MN. And if hes in a bunker unit behind another unit the frenzy is not a problem because you only have to test if a charge is possible. Ya the MN not causing any close combat wounds at the end can be a problem but if his points wont cause you to loose the battle...
