Well, nothing seems to stop me from fielding about 10 or so vampire lords now, have converted alot of them over the years and normally I could only use a few of them at once.

I wonder if the fact that they are seperate units would be a drawback though. I don't think there is any way to make a bunch of vampires count as one unit.

Reading over the undead factions rules something has struck me: do wounds restored by magic such as the mortis engines power bring our fallen back? So far i can find nothing that says so, no invocation of nehek or equivalent is in there. We have our abundant chaff without the ability to keep it on the board for long periods, though summoning has become a simpler affair.

The only direction I can see if this doesn't pan out is the death of GW's fantasy line altogether, persisting only as IP to be licensed out to video and board games. I don't think the bean counters will allow another shot at this, which is why the insane decision to leave army construction and balancing entirely up to the ability of players to come to a mutual agreement, without any sort of foundation upon which to build that agreement, is just so flabbergasting to me. More then anything else, that seems likely to kill this game before it even has a chance to get started.

It's a decision so absurd that I still have a hard time believing its actually true. I mean, we'll see once and for all tomorrow, but after reading the rules, the sudden death bit, and the starter box battlescrolls, I just don't see where a system for making this game actually playable as a game could be hiding.

IMO, GW have re-established WHFB (or AoS I guess now) as a just-for-fun non competitive game. This is not a game intended for tournaments or 'serious' competition.

I will admit: My mood took a 180 when I started reading the warscrolls, and after @Demian pointed out the stuff about unit sizes. This actually looks awesome. If this becomes a thing people are playing then I would definitely make a few lists. (My Dwarfs suddenly became awesome as well :D) EDIT: @najo Holy crap cavalry is ACTUAL CAVALRY in this game.

I still prefer oldhammer, and I NEED restrictions for list building to play this. Without restrictions I don't see how I would go about having a game. I would have to make up some with my opponent to play this. But the old point costs are no longer fair because of the way stats have been changed. I guess it would be something like "X amount of units from core, special, same amount of wounds in total... IDK. I NEED BALANCE! I NEED SCALE!

I also miss WS, S & T for the "realism" and flavor it gave the game.

I am also sort of sad about the way our models roles have changed due to their stats. Makes me confused about how stuff work in one game vs the other, and the sentimental roles I have given my units in my army.

But yeah. If not for the lack of list guidelines I would be very excited to play this. My post became mostly negatives, but I am actually very positively surprised. Once again regarding rumors: There are multiple sources outside of Darnok that say there will be something rules related in august. I am still hoping for this to be accurate.

Like I said before every army can summon. If you read over most units in the game it seems to give the wizard models the ability to summon. Therefore we are not at all unique in our ability to summon. However we can summon zombie units that join other zombie units therefore creating massive tarpits or adding to units in tarpits. All that being said I would prefer oldhammer.

Probably a new scenario or set of warscrolls but nothing like rank & file rules i reckon. But great scott... BLOOD KNIGHTS!!!

I can really get behind a lot of this, but the lack of a system to even ATTEMPT to make opposing forces balanced.....I just cannot get my head around how to make a fair game?

Our "invocation of nehek" is contained within the banners of each unit. If a unit has a standard bearer, it can resurrect D6 models in the Hero phase.

With the Reliquary's power, DEATH units that are struck heal D3 wounds. Other unit types suffer D3 wounds.

I don't see how that could be clearer.

@Rob. Skeletons haven't been completely renamed Deathrattlers... That just seems to be the name of the battalion formation... in answer to one of the queries on your blog.

There's still some very nice synergy; corpse carts, large hordes of zombies (30=optimal), wight king, necromancer.

Ethereal units got nuked HARD though. All ethereal does now is allow uninhibited movement through terrain and ignore RENDING from weapons. Mundane weapons can now damage them.

Hexwraiths got kinda nerfed in some ways and buffed in others. They now actually have a 4+ save, AND have two wounds. So they will likely stay around a little longer. On the other hand, their spectral hunter rule got nerfed so that they only deal damage to the unit they moved over, on a mere 6. Boooooo.

I don't see how you could even make a friendly game that is balanced. You would have to spend more time discussing balance than playing the game.

Also I think the whole point is to come up with houserules. No doubt that in GW stores they'll have houserules for organising games etc.

@Demian This will be hilarious. You'll get to say things like "I come to suck your blood!" and "Don't try to order me around!" and other more insane things. :D

Dark Elves, High Elves, Skaven, Empire, none of these can summon main troops...

In fact the only army other than Undead that I've seen which can summon is the Lizardmen/Seraphon (although I cant think WHY...) and Chaos I imagine can summon. But that's all I've seen.

Sorry I just read the chaos lizardmen/sephraon and undead rules then assumed that it applied to every army. :innocent: That was a pretty big coincidence .

Yeah, I was surprised to see that pretty much everything has its original name.

Warriors can with daemon princes

Hey with summoning do you have to have the unit/ warscrolls in your army to actually summon it? or is it pretty much all wizards can summon anything regardless, if so daemons would be deadly since everything can be summoned including greater daemons

Yeah but at the same time greater daemons are summoned on a 10+ on 2D6, and most wizards can only cast one spell per turn. With the way that wounds are allocated I can also see having an extra GD on the table not be as big of a deal as it was in 8th.

Yeah, as much as i like anything else (and i do, i enjoy goofy bullshit) i just don't see how i could even play this game.

I think I lost complete faith in this game when I read Nagash's 'hand of dust' special rule. Pretty sure they asked a random six year old off the street to write that one.
