Here are the Hexwraiths:

After removing the front saddle parts from the Wraiths, they fit quite nicely on the marauder horses.

Detailed shots of the mounts can be seen on the first page.

I'm having some color scheme ideas dancing in me head...not yet sure, but thinking of a red to green transition combo...or maybe red & blue. Orange?!
Dunno, but whatever it is I hope it won't be conventional.

For a transition color, not orange. It will clash WAY too much! Try purple.
Look at the color wheel, it would give you an idea of how colors would mesh or clash.

Yeah, I've seen the wheel loads and I just don't get how people use it. You say that orange will clash, how does the wheel tell you?

Honestly I myself don't use the color wheels....But (this sounds weird and makes for some interesting dreams) the colors go together in my head. Like I look at a model and the colors I should and shouldn't use are right there. Its a natural gift.

I have a similar kind of thing with music. When I hear a sting of notes, I just kind of know which ones should come next. But then of course you'd already know all of this what with you being my father

It doesn't sound weird at all. Everyone has natural talents, painting seems to be one of yours.

I use color wheels and use the following bits to do my colors:

If you're looking for a color to shade with, use the one opposite of the color you're currently using.

If you're looking for a highlight, use the one next to it as a step up.

Sounds simple, but it really helps!!!

Thanks for the advices all, they will help a lot.

If laziness doesn't overcome, I may even try and paint my first undead (zombie it will be) tomorrow.
Need to test this primer I have as well, not yet sure on it's efficiency.

As promised!

This is my first painted mini in 5-ish years, and maybe 10th overall, so be gentle. :tongue: And please do advise on how to improve!

How it started, I am actually quite happy with how it turned out. Devlan Mud indeed does wonders.

Still, it's quite messy, need to work on precision etc. Especially with those drybrush marks.

Should look decent in blocks of 20-30.

Primer turned out to be ok, happy with the Vallejo paints as well.

Like the fleshtone and the vest. Perhaps some wash around the bandages to make them stand out more from the flesh? Good work.

Well, you can use a different approach. When I paint zombies, I don't worry about drybrush destroying my work. I paint the clothes and highlight them, then I paint the skin and when drybrushing, I drybrush even over the clothes a bit, so the result looks like the clothes are rotten too. You can check "How to paint zombies" in Dying to help, if you want to see the whole tutotial and to see the finished result

Yup, I was watching that topic as I was painting so I saw them...looking really good.
Yeah, it really ain't a big of a deal with zombies (that's why I'm practicing on them, even) but for fancier stuff should be more careful.
The aim here was to highlight those studs or whatever they are, but it went a bit over the vest itself as well, hehe.

Been a while. Lately I haven't done much VC converting. Assembled some Black Knights, Vargheists...going to further upgrade the flying portion of the army. So here is the Winged Vampire Lord. Will be using her for melee/combat oriented character build.

As promised...

Today I finally finished what will act as my Fell Bats.
Here we have Avatars of War Harpies combined with Daemonettes heads and Renedra Ltd. gravestones (the set that Mantic puts in some of their boxes). I must say AoW Harpies are great - fine detail, almost no mould lines and user friendly material. Was very pleasantly surprised.

The scene is set on a graveyard, poor gravedigger messed with the wrong grave and got himself into trouble. One angry skeleton and half-a-dozen of "bats". The middle one is pinned to the handle of the shovel and others to the gravestones. The base with the skeleton acts as a filler to have a unit of 6.

Here is an addition to my current Grave Guard unit. Greatswords turned into skeletons, an idea that I always liked. Got a good deal on a box of Empire Greatswords so decided to do it.
