Ok,

So after more thought and based on some of the suggestions (note that I sadly cannot make everyone happy!)

  • Maintain existing chapters and progressed made.
  • There will however be a major upheaval in the following way (based on the Dread Kings idea): Neferata was never in the Silver Pinnacle, after hearing of the new armies of Chaos she had recently relocated (alliance unknown). Likewise the Chaos forces did not contain Vekarin. It was infact the first attempt by the forces of Chaos to split and divide the new Vampire Council by providing false information, and it would seem they can deceive the Nehekharan gods. Expertly engineered, both parties were ambushed by skilled forces / assassins, and those that survived had been forced to retreat back to Drakenhof.
  • Now you may have noticed I have written it like it has already happened. I would recommend that we effectively wrap up the chapters in such a fashion, or provide the information at the start of the next chapter rather than trying to tie up the end of the old ones.
  • From this players can do the following: Have their character killed, enter a bio for a new one. Their character may be severely affected and altered in someway (player can enter an amended bio) as long as it makes sense (i.e. trauma makes them less / more aggressive etc). Alternatively you can just continue with your existing character.
  • New players can join (plenty of advertising), and make an intro at Drakenhof.
  • Brand new signup, OOC and other OOC related threads with be started to make them current, old ones will be closed / archived.
  • Support GM's will be set up to help with the management of this RP.
  • A section only accessible by the GM's will be created. This section will contain the plot details and other info to keep the RP running should someone disappear (yes I know you're all looking at me ).
  • Part of the T&C's of this roleplay will be that after an agreed amount of time (to be determined), if a player has not RP'd their character and it is important to the chapter they respond, that someone else may RP them. This can be done either by nominating someone (for example I may nominate GoW) or if no nomination on the bio, both parties are absent, the GM's may RP or nominate someone to RP. All attempts will be made to stick to the characters personalty etc.
  • Other than that the normal rules around main plot, side plots etc will still apply.

Hope this all makes sense, let me know your thoughts.

Sounds good. How will the upheaval be done though? Will we get to react in-character? I'm looking forward to have Roland fight off some assassins, or even save Faust's butt (again...)

I'm open to discussions, I will start a few threads so we can discuss the particulars in more details, and also see if I can get hold of the members we had before.

I'm open to discussions, I will start a few threads so we can discuss the particulars in more details, and also see if I can get hold of the members we had before.

I'm happy to send a PM to every RPer in the TVC II (those who made character sheets and haven't been accepted yet, and those who are part of the RP already) who has not stated they are not RPing in it any more, reminding them that it is active again and asking them if they would like to join. If they respond, I'll make a post detailing whether each RPer said a yay a or a nay to RPing in the TVC II again.

I'm also willing to re-post a list of characters currently in the RP (both those applying to join it, and those who already have), when they last RPed in the TVC II and if they have stated that they have left the TVC II or not.

This would allow DoN to see which RPers are definitely gone (so their characters can be killed off), and get hold of as much of this old playerbase as possible. It would also help those trying to introduce secondary characters and people who haven't yet joined from getting priority attention (the latter group deserve to have their characters checked - and hopefully approved - before any new RPers do, seeing as some have been waiting for approval for nearly a year. Questioner tops the record with an as-yet unaccepted bio for his first character that was posted in October 2012!)

I've just sent a PM, but the rest would certainly help

I've also posted up a thread to recruit the additional GMs.

I should point out that if we wanted to be thorough with an interest check, we wouldn't just be able to rely on PMs. Case in point: Lord_Mortis (Ezra) hasn't been on the forum in almost two months. I know I get occasional e-mails from the forum (and yet there isn't an e-mail present on my profile), so if we decided it would be worth it, once we have a list of previous participants/unconfirmed characters, we could contact the users who haven't been active on the forums recently and so probably won't see the PMs.

Very true, well the PM was the first approach. If Dready is going to get a confirmed list, I can send an email through the admin options.

@Harland - everyone has an email, you need one to register xd

So, thoughts around the ambushes:

There will however be a major upheaval in the following way (based on the Dread Kings idea): Neferata was never in the Silver Pinnacle, after hearing of the new armies of Chaos she had recently relocated (alliance unknown). Likewise the Chaos forces did not contain Vekarin. Their character may be severely affected and altered in someway (player can enter an amended bio) as long as it makes sense (i.e. trauma makes them less / more aggressive etc). Alternatively you can just continue with your existing character.

Is the general gist of this ok, any thoughts / suggestions / comments?

@Disciple of Nagash, sounds good to me. A suggestion concerning how this would work in chapter 4:

If I recall correctly, the convoy had just been met by a delegation from the Silver Pinnacle. Given that in fact Neferata isn't involved, this could in fact be the team of assassins met sent by chaos. They are approaching in this manner so that when night falls the convoy won't be on alert as they now have "allies" with them - presumably taking over guard duty etc.
Then of course, once Anya et al have been convinced to 'rest their weary selves after a long journey', the assassins will strike.

The other option I feel is to move straight on to nightfall and not worry too much about continuity, and have the assassin strike come completely without warning.

Both could probably be done in a single post, I think. I would still like the chance to post how I get out of it though (I fully intend to keep Roland as he is)

Am keen to get back into things again! I agree with the general idea of retreating back to drakenhof and regrouping. Seems the best way to go to allow new players to join and old players to continue.

I've just sent a PM, but the rest would certainly help

An apology for the lateness of this post. The old links to the signup thread that I had made in a previous post now do not work, because the web addresses of the posts in that thread have changed, because the thread has been locked (this happened after my old post).

In case this is not clear, the link below each character in this list redirects anyone who clicks on it to that character's biography.

Regardless, the list is here as promised. :) Sorry if any of the links are broken (I have linked the bios of each character). Please notify me if there are any mistakes, I can and will (if there are any mistakes) edit this post. I intend to update this list regularly. If the links don't work, just copy them into the URL of a webpage and press the 'Enter' key. This method should direct you to where the link is meant to direct you.

If/when DoN PMs me/announces the reply(ies) of each user to whether or not they want to continue participating in the TVC II, I will update this list accordingly with that user's status.

The Laws of this System

To gain 'active in the RP' status, an RPer must have participated in the currently ongoing chapters, chapters 4 or 5, or make a post in a supplemental that does not predate chapters 4 or 5 (in terms of the IRL timeline). To gain 'participating in the RP' status, an RPer must have an accepted bio, and must not have stated that they have officially left the TVC II for good. To acquire 'Left the RP' status, a player must have stated in a post (or a PM that anyone who might post here knows of) that they have left the RP forever.

Users who have not been online for more than 31 days have their 'last online' date highlighted in orange. This is because they are considered inactive on the entire site. Please suggest a better time for a user to be determined 'inactive' if you think a month is too short/too long a time to be considered the threshold for defining whether a user is active or inactive on this website as a whole. Note that under this system, because there have not been many IC posts for several months, a user can be inactive on the forum as a whole but be classified as an active RPer in the TVC II.

I have highlighted every unaccepted primary character in red.

I have highlighted every unaccepted secondary (note that this is not in relevance, merely in order of submission) character in blue.

Characters of players (and the players themselves) who have left the RP have been highlighted in green.

Inactive users (ones that have accepted characters, but have not RPed in the TVC II after chapters 4 and 5 were opened) and their characters are highlighted in purple.

Characters with bio or roleplaying difficulties that have not been categorised in this paragraph are highlighted in yellow in this list.

The characters who fall into multiple highlighting categories have been partially highlighted with all of the colours appropriate to the categories they fall into.

I have written the date and time out in BST (British Summer Time) time; the clock and calendar I am using use BST time. The last update to this post was made on 8th July 2014, at 10.30 P.M.

Status of All TVC II Characters

Note: this list is compiled in order of which RPer posted in the signup thread first. It descends as the first character sheet submission of an RPer in the TVC II comes at a later date than the last primary character sheet submission in the TVC II.

https://www.vampirecounts.net/threads/signup-thread-locked.19585/page-2#post-314787

Note: part of the reason for Sanai's IC inactivity is that incorporating Nithek Deathclaw into the council is proving, lore-wise, to be a somewhat difficult matter. Therefore, he is waiting for the opportunity - which may come with the events of the upcoming reboot - to introduce Nithek or Rafen Cleiss to the council and start posting IC again.

Note: Lynks has been inactive IC in the TVC II to similar reasons to Sanai's, hopefully these issues will be cleared up in the reboot. Perhaps some IC justification could be devised and then written down in the first few IC posts of the rebooted TVC II RP to allow these characters to easily integrate with (and join) the council.

Character of Chaos_Born - currently participating (but not active) in the RP
Last online: 16th March 2013

Mikaeus the Outcast - Alive - although this character was accepted, Chaos_Born has not had this character participate in IC yet. Also, DoN told him he could up his magical power. The forum does not show (to me, at least) if he did this after that post by DoN (though his following OOC post implies that this was the case) but if he did edit this bio, DoN did not comment on the change. Therefore, it can be safely assumed that his stats - and, indeed, the bio as a whole - are acceptable for the TVC II.

Reason for leaving the RP:
It looks like the Fanged Jesters will be vanishing into legend once again. I have recently jumped into a whirlpool of responsibility and my mind has little space for more distractions, however fun they may be. Feel free to assume that the Twins do something weird and vanish inexplicably whenever you feel it is convenient.

My apologies if you find the list and colour scheme somewhat garish, but I wanted to make the status of the RPers listed here memorable. Please suggest any improvements, upgrade, updates and corrections I could make for this post (for the colour scheme, and also for all the other features of this post).

Edit: at 10:30pm on the 8th July 2014, whilst updating the Last Online sections of each RPer, I found an error (Anilar's username was neither underlined nor emboldened). I have corrected this now, but I apologise for any inconvenience it might have caused before this edit.

Right Behind you...
Awesome stuff Dread. My one suggestion is make the username headers (e.g. "Characters of Harland") stand out more, possibly by underlining and/or making them bold.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys! Happy to be of service. xD

I have now emboldened and underlined the username headers.

Overall statistics (I'm posting these separately because if they are not considered particularly useful, then I will not update them). Please let me know if they are useful (and which ones are useful, if you only consider some of them to be so); based on the overall response from the users commenting here, I may incorporate them into my original list post.

A total of 32 players have submitted bios for the TVC II.

27 players have input content into IC threads in the TVC II.

1 player - Count Krieger von Blutstein - has officially left the TVC II.

8 players who have accepted characters are inactive in the TVC II - they have not posted since chapter 4 was opened.

11 10 players who have submitted bios for the TVC II (not counting Count Krieger) are, overall, inactive on CN.

5 players are both inactive on CN and on the TVC II. These are the RPers most likely to not return without being sent an e-mail reminder by DoN.

On the bright side, we still have 12 13 players who are active on CN and in the TVC II.

For an RP that has experienced unfortunate delays in the past, and considering the fact that RPers who sign up to a long-term RP often leave because they don't find it enjoyable for more than a few weeks, this is actually quite a good number of active players to have. The relaunch of the action will likely lure back a number of veteran players as well as attracting new ones.

tl;dr

The playerbase of the TVC II is not in dire straits at the moment, but the upcoming reboot will definitely be a welcome aid to help it flourish.

This post was last updated at 10:42 P.M. BST (British Summer Time) on the 8th July 2014. Note that the figures describing the activity in a certain area of the TVC II playerbase at the time of this being originally posted are written in bold grey, and that the statistics at the time of the most recent edit of this post for these areas are written in bold green text immediately to the right of their grey counterparts. Should only a bold grey statistic be present, that figure has not changed (by the time of the latest edit of this post) since the time in which the original post was submitted.

To add onto this idea, and get the reboot done in as few posts as possible (but still contain input from much of the RPing community currently involved in the TVC II), the reboot could be structured like this.

1. Initial dilemma (posted by DoN) = the assassin strikes. Includes killings of characters of RPers who have officially left (though I'm not sure how DoN is going to deal with the flying castle outside Drakenhof and the two NPCs of Count Krieger's that are inside there, along with the twins' forces. Maybe Tzeentch could hijack the power running the castle, take it to the wastes, and kill its inhabitants? Perhaps others could suggest a better idea to deal with this? It seems unlikely to happen right near Drakenhof, but Tzeentch could do it remotely, and a flying castle is a pretty exceptional case anyway. Maybe Fozzrik's Flying Fortress (which is controlled by Tzeentch, and is canon) could pop in and destroy it (casters in the fortress could zap the castle, or take out the runes that keep it afloat. Tzeentch could also do this remotely. It seems unlikely that anything except remote manipulation of the winds by the followers of chaos to destroy or hijack the castle - a pretty unbelievable concept in itself - or an attack by Fozzrik's flying fortress, which could speed in and out of Drakenhof (although, again, the idea of Drakenhof security not being able to take out a flying object near a castle seems silly - maybe it was too fast or they never expected it?) - are believable (in terms of lore) events to take place that would deal with the flying castle quickly).

2. RPers' responses. There is a limit on the number of posts each player can make, to keep the pace going and hasten the final reboot post - this would essentially be a series of 'flee with style' posts rather than a battle. It would also allow RPers to kill off their old characters if they wanted to (although they could notify DoN in advance about this, and he could do it instead if they wanted him to). Note that RPers don't have to respond if they don't want to; DoN could just say that they made a lucky escape. Responses are not necessary to control the actions of one's character here; the only reason for this might be that some RPers would want to invent their own reasons for their characters evading death at the hands of the assassins (and understandably so).

3. Resolution. DoN wraps everything up. Return to Drakenhof.

For chapter 4, I like Harland's 'rest your weary selves' idea. The characters of spineyrequiem and Shareya could prove instrumental in warning (and thereby saving) the council at the silver pinnacle (originally being loyal to Neferata -- if she's joined chaos, they could have seen her as betraying them, and left her, or if she hasn't, they can be her real emissaries to the council). The idea I have in mind here is that they could appear as reluctant servants of chaos -- who had been taken as their servants at the pinnacle when they took it -- who subtly warn Anya and the council of the impending assassination attempt. They have just enough time to mentally prepare themselves for the attack before the assassins bear down on them. They then make their escape (along with two characters - Shareya's and spinyrequiem's, if and when their bios are accepted) from the Silver Pinnacle. This incorporates new players into the story and provides a feasible reason for why the large majority of the council forces in a chaos stronghold avoided a chaos assassination attempt and managed to flee a fortified, formidable and (no doubt) well-garrisoned fortress. The council forces at the pinnacle could make their escape in the coaches that the Carsteins provided.

For chapter 5, a sensible reason for how the council in the wastes managed to avoid the assassin strike may be more tricky to formulate. Perhaps the Nehekharan Pantheon realise they have been tricked and warn Rowhaine, in just enough time for him to gather together the various members of the council in the wastes and make a hasty exit (presumably through one of Nekhlior's portals) as the assassins strike. However, the difficulties with this are that the council is somewhat spread out. Igor is near the chaos camp, the main group of council members is close enough for the vampiric eye to see most of the details of the front of the camp, and Rowhaine and Graveclaw are facing each other off somewhere in between these two locations. The various groups would be divided and isolated from each other, not giving the smaller groups much of a chance (lore-wise) against a surprise chaos assassination attempt. How would Igor be warned -- perhaps someone in the council could attempt to contact him magically (preferably Rowhaine as he has the divine powers that, if not overused or abused, can be conveniently and believably inserted into tricky situations like this one, and he would probably be the first to know about the assassination attempt)? Otherwise, he may be doomed, because anybody trying to warn Igor unsubtly (e.g. "Hey Igor! Did ya see the assassins on the hill over yonder?") will blow his cover and alert the guards of the camp at the same time.

Igor could realise that something was wrong - not being able to see Vekarin in the settlement - and suspect foul play (or maybe feel obliged to tell the council that they were at the wrong camp  ). He could hastily return (for whatever reason that is determined to be the most suitable one by DoN) to the rest of the council members to update them with this completely unexpected information (and thus have support when the assassin strike takes place moments later). Being an assassin himself, he also might be able to escape death by being the first (or one of the first) of the council force in the wastes to sense and protect themself from the presence of the chaos assassins before they attack.

The Graveclaw-Rowhaine situation could be taken advantage of here. The chaos assassins may not have predicted or prepared for Graveclaw to run off (though with Vekarin/other old council members/acquaintances of the old council amongst the chaos forces, they would likely prepare for the unstable strigoi to do something rash and/or bold) and so as Rowhaine confronts Graveclaw one or both of them notice the assassins approaching the main council force and have time to warn it of the assassins (who are able to see through Nekhlior's containment spell because of some sort of magical/anti-necromancy aid from chaos, or simply because they were tracking them since they left the portal, and know of their location by 'clinging to the belt' of the council by heading towards the camp and following the footprints/sounds of the council. A possibility is that they themselves were hiding sneaking up behind the council while they were visible, and, once Nekhlior concealed the council, they continued to track them through sound/going in the general direction towards the chaos camp ).

Alternatively, the main council force, being concealed, is not attacked, so Graveclaw, Igor and Rowhaine (who are outside the range of the conciliatory spell) are attacked (but they have prepared slightly, because Rowhaine has been warned by the Nehekharan gods, and he has in turn warned Igor - possibly mentally, through the use of divine powers or magic - and Graveclaw of the assassin strike). They flee to the main council force, being chased by assassins, and the intrusion of chaos forces into the radius of the illusionary shield dissipates the illusion. Then, the main force of assassins (who have kept reasonably close to the main council force, despite them being invisible and their exact positions hard to track, and thus exploit) reveal themselves and attack the council in earnest. Alternatively, the original assassins could rouse the alarm and alert soldiers from the nearby chaos camp, who could then try to attack the council. Nekhlior helps the group make a hasty escape through a portal (or Rowhaine/insert member finds another method of escape for the council and uses is quickly). Of course, some characters may be wounded, and the characters of the roleplayers who have officially left the TVC II can be killed off at this point. The portal leads to Drakenhof (or a place near Drakenhof, from where the council journey (in a post detailed by DoN) to Drakenhof).

This is largely what I was suggesting, nice and concise! Perhaps rather than a post limit, there could be a time limit. Something like "You have 3 days to react to the assassins". This would enable more freedom while still keeping on schedule.

Concerning the twins, I don't see any reason why they need to strictly be killed off. They could simply... fly away in their castle, much less messy. Plus Krieger himself suggested the twins simply disappear at an opportune moment.

The council forces at the pinnacle could make their escape in the coaches that the Carsteins provided.

Personally, I prefer the idea of the characters surviving on their own merit. Moreover, it's clear that DoN wants to keep Neferata undeclared at the moment ("alliance unknown"). Plus this slightly overcomplicates things, the aim is to wrap up the current chapters as quickly and cleanly as possible and then introduce the new characters.

Perhaps I'm missing your point, but I don't think the chapter 4 assassination strike needs to happen in a fortress. It could simply happen at an encampment.

I can't comment on Chapter 5 as I am not up to date on that chapter yet.
