@Borgnine: Thanks for the kind words =)
Got a pretty sizeable bitz box yeah, the zombies have drained it somewhat though :innocent:

@Farmer7574: Thanks, it means a lot. I strive to make them unique :)
Sounds like a pretty cool use of the spites, the could fit in really well in a mystical forest filled with angry goblins.

@Theerteen: Thanks XD

As I said in the "So Whats Everyone Working On?" thread, I have finally built my last zombie! And while they are a joy to build, I sure will be glad when I can put that project truly behind with. When these latest 23 are painted I will have my 210 Zombies, finally. So, without further ado, here are the last 3 zombies:

hyD74yp.jpg

The guy on the left I built partly to serve as guard for the Casket of Souls. I have one zombie wielding great weapon that is perfect for the job and now he will have a partner in crime.

The one in the middle was inspired by @Borgnine's infamous zombie ogre standard bearer, and by @Von Calyptra's zombie that was also inspired by said ogre. That jaw idea was just too cool not to use. I then raided my bitz box and found the arms, making him look like some angry boxer, the chain from the Flagellant kit I think added to that effect.

The one on the right was also inspired by @Von Calyptra's work. Adding clothing to zombies looked fun so this one got a hood ^^

In the coming week I will be painting these bad boys, and as a bonus I threw in the Vampire Lord I converted up so long ago, he will finally get some paint!

Cheers for getting the project close to finish! It will be actually kinda sad to see it come to an end, as your zombies are really the best there are  And by 210 zombies you mean "210 wounds in my units with fillers" or "210 models"? That's quite a lot, since when are you working on them?

Also, I remember that you liked my ogre, but seeing how successful and influential he is made me a little suprised  And I even missed it when @Von Calyptra posted his zombie... But well, it's good, that's one of the main reasons for posting this stuff here and I'm glad people are getting inspired ;)

Good luck with the zombies, I am eagerly waiting for the effects xD

The last three!!! They join one of the best looking zombie hordes out there!!! If all our zombie hordes were put together in one massive army yours would have to be the vanguard of the army.

That's a cool idea! I'd like to know how many zombies total our forum has painted. Somebody set up that thread!

Great work, Mad 'At. I wish I could see your army in person at least once.

@Mad 'At Yet more awesome looking and unique zombies. Love 'em!

As said by others, it'll be a shame to see the end of you building/painting zombies for your army but your plog is a great resource for inspiration and ideas.

I've realized that by opting for weaponless zombies in my upcoming army I've really limited conversion opportunities, but I think I'll aim to pull off diversity in the way of fun fillers, dioramas, skin tones and wounds inflicted.

Nice work as always!

Thanks for the replies guys =)

@Borgnine: Fair enough, the model count is slightly lower
The first post about them was in February 2013, god they have taken a long time

@wheeljack: I am touched by your words. And putting all our zombies together sure is a frightening thought :o

@Adam_Barrow: Not a bad idea... It would be cool to know how many we can muster together...
I'd love to battle it out with your army, only a pond that separates us.

@Farmer7574: I am glad to hear you say that. Always hope to inspire and hopefully I can do so with whatever project I tackle in the future.
Weaponless zombies would definitely limit it somewhat, but I am sure you can pull it off. There is still loads of fun to be had with the little critters. Must say that I am really looking forward to see what you can come up with for your VC.

Went to a tournament last weekend and had a great time. After some stress painting I actually managed to finish all the zombies in time for it, so I brought 210 zombies along to fight with me, and I even had them all at the field simultaneously in one battle.

Full reports on all 5 battles can be found here. It was 2500pts 8th edition SWE-comp, most likely the last 8th edition tournament I will ever go to.

Thought I'd show some pics of it all here as well:

I made it to second place with my army. The winner was the OnG army seen in the last picture. Third place went to the OnG army with the two spiders and he two wyverns.

I managed to collect 50 BP in the battle, just making it to the limit of shame. Always my goal so that I am pleased with. This year you could also get up to 100 points from sportmanship and 100 from painting, meaning all three were just as important. I got full pot in sportsman and 91 points in painting. This all got me to an 11th place in the total score, not bad out of 88 players ^^

Will make another update soon with the last few zombies that were painted.

As promised, here is the update with the last zombies.

I lied to you before. The zombies weren't really finished in time for the tournament. I had left one shield unpainted and unattached because I didn't have the time to do it justice. I did finish it this Friday though, so now I can finally, possibly, hopefully say that my zombies are complete. Onto the pictures:

The unitfiller in the middle was finished long ago but for some reason I've forgotten to upload pics of the finished product.

The shield guy here was finished in time for the tournament. Really pleased with him. Next to him we have the jawless boxer. Not entirely pleased with this model, but I'm not really sure what I would have changed.

Here we have the recently finished shield guy. Never tried painting this type of shield before, with a charge split down the middle. But I really like the result. The greatsword guy next to him I am really pleased with. Painting the black and red clothing was so much fun that I started considering it for my upcoming Empire army.

To finish off we have close ups of the two shields:

Sweet as usual :) The idea with the cage is interesting - and I even have one of these to do something similiar ;) From where is the vulture? Other than this, the skeleton with the armored hand looks hilariously top-heavy, very cool indeed. And the knight on the big base - I like how ironic his choice of weapon is - he may sport a fancy base and frilly helmet, but he still wields just a rotting leg xD Cheers!

Seems I've forgotten to reply here. Thanks for all the kind words guys :)

@ObliviJohn: An old Flagellant that is, with a headswap. I thought the crossbar looked proper old with all the patina and all o.o

@wheeljack: Never even though of him as a beastman, just imagined it as the necromancer just using the first head he came across xD

@Borgnine: The vulture is from the Tomb Guard kit, it is supposed to be on their standard. The weapon choice of the knight just came to me, and I sticked with it just for the irony. Glad to here it is appreciated :)

Time for a small update here, with a new necro that I've added to my army.

Here he is all assembled and converted up. The original mini is a Rackham sculpt, I just gave him a new right hand.

And next we have him painted:

I am quite happy with the result. Tried my best at using a limited pallet, focusing on greens to give him a poisonous look. Also had some fun painting his staff to look like some sort of stone.

Feel free to comment :)

Sweet work! The staff looks very cool and I'll definitely look here when painting such details of my own ;) Other than that, I very much like his 'skirt' - this color came out really well. My favourite has to be the pink openings on his chest, very good, eye catching details and they blend so well. And the model itself is also interesting - I don't know many Rackham models, so it was a surprise - the cloak is especially awesome. I only don't think that the syringe fits very well with the WFB world ;) It's superbly painted though xD Oh, and he's got quite a lot of space behind him on the base - a little jarring, but otherwise small thing that doesn't detract from the overall awesomeness

Amazing army man. 1st time i saw your plog and so much awesome work. Must point out the amazing corpse cart, casket of souls and endless zombies conversion! Where do you get all these amazing ideas from!? and that serpent staff on the poison necro is really something! keep it up man, sick work!

@Shadespyre: Thanks! Became really pleased with the staff overall :)

@Farmer7574: Thank you, glad to hear the limited palette paid off. Not something I'm particularity good at working with (and even here I could not stop myself from adding a little bit of red).

@Adam_Barrow: Thanks for the kind words. I was a bit unsure about the syringes as the empty part came out as nearly the same colour as the cloth. But then I realise they are supposed to be transparent xD

@Borgnine: Thanks, feel from to swipe any inspiration you'd like :)
Gray is surprisingly fun and easy to highlight. You don't have to worry about shade and tone but only about brightness, which makes it easier to get a nice and smooth transition I think. Considering Empires has a mechanical horse I don't see it as unlikely that the syringe has been invented, and I think a science interested necromancer could have a lot of fun one xD
The placement on the base is mostly to make him more easy to place within units, but I admit, a more central placement would probably have looked better.

@Eyeless: Thank you very much for the praise :)
The corpse cart idea I actually stole from @Adam_Barrow, and many of the zombie ideas I've picked up here and there. The Giant filler for example I am sure I've picked up the idea from somewhere around this forum, sadly though I haven't been able to find the source a second time.

UPDATE!

I've finally finished painting the Vampire Lord. This Model I once had the intention of entering into a Turning to World to Darkness Challenge, that must have been eons ago. But, here we are non the less, and I am quite pleased with the result. Although the shield could have turned out better I think but I was at a loss of inspiration for an emblem.

And thanks to the wonder of magnets, I can use him without the shield if I want to:

Or even without the cloak if it would happen to be in the way:

Here are the pieces:

I've also started a new project, Mordheim, or 9th Heim rather. This is some of the models that will be part of my Warband. Got a skeleton and some other stuff in there too but those are not new models.

The second guy from the right is one of my most ambition sculpting works ever, an so far it is going well.

Comments and criticism much appreciated.

As promised in my plog of randomness, here is another update on the warband.

Last week I managed to paint 4 models for it, sadly I didn't have time to photograph them until now, but better late than never xD

First up are the two members of the Henchmen group know as The Trusty Companions.

And then we have the second henchmen group, know as The Skulking Shadows, or as "Two by two, hoods of blue".

The colours of the warband are going to be green and blue, and as seen above, I'll use them to help identify the different groups of henchmen. On the heroes I mainly plan to use much brighter variants of those colours, to make them stand out.

Let me know what you think :)
