I got some bits from @Theerteen a while ago for the idea I'm shamelessly ripping off from another plog. I've been assembling some neglected plastic the last couple of days (13 Black Knights, a bit of work on a second Mortis Engine, and mounted Mannfred), and planned on building the Coach this week actually. I'm really looking forward to working on a model I've owned unassembled since ~2002.

Hello all!

I've got a tournament coming up, so I've stared some new projects to bring make my army ready for it. I will be using a Nosferatu list and as the general I will use the Necrach vampire I painted up for my "Casket of Souls" a while back. Joining him will be a Vampire Courtier with the Battle Standard, so I've painted up a model for that. I have no idea where the model is from or even how I got my hands on it, but you can check it out below:

It is not a 100% finished, and I haven't even started painting the banner yet. Since I have a vampire carrying my Battle Standard I can't use my usual Barrow King, so I had to fix up one without a banner. Thankfully I had a GW Wight King lying untouched in a drawer, and a quick paintjob later he is ready to slay some foes. Really happy with this one, it is a great sculpt and the colour scheme I used for my Grave Guard fit him very well.

And finally, we have not one but two banners that are being constructed. First one is for the Nosferatu BSB:

And the second is for the Grave Guard. Since the one I have on them is strong theme towards Von Carstein I needed to make a new one. Very glad I put magnets on my flags xD

Now I just have to finish building and painting there before Thursday. That is gonna be rough :cautious:

C&C much appreciated.

Solid work all around, as usual ;) The nosferatu vampire looks as if he's from Rackham, judging from the style...

The Wight King is a great piece! Very pleasing color scheme and the sword is absolutely fantastic. Also, nice for me to see another take on a patinated wight xD One thing I would change is to paint the little vial on his belt with the same color as the sword - it would bind it together nicely and wouldn't stick out as much.

Bloated body on a banner is a very nice idea, too. And the second one? Is it a wood elf fairy of sorts?

Thanks guys :)

@Borgnine: Rackham you say, sounds possible. Might be interesting to look into. Always nice to know where your minis are from in case anyone asks xD

I thought about painting the vial orange. Decided against it mainly because the materials were so different. Went with green cause I thought it wouldn't stick out much since the patina is pretty close in colour. See now from the pictures that it might have been a bad call though. I might change that, but I doubt I'll have time before the tournament.

The top of the Barrow Guard banner is indeed from the Wood Elves. I've re-sculptured his face and painted it as a bronze gargoyle. I think it looks decent, but I do wish I could have spent some more time on it. That's the beauty of magnets though, I can always do another xD
But you can judge by yourself since I added pictures of it below.

That's right, update time! Here is the new banner for the Barrow Guard, along with a group shot together with all the pals and even the new Barrow King.

Similarly how I posted a while before - great glowing eyes! And while I'm not the biggest fan of the asymmetrical banner, it fits good with them. The wight king also looks great along them :) I didn't notice it earlier, but the golden wings on the champion's helmet looks goddamn terrific!

@Borgnine: Hmm... those are not intended to be glowing :(
I just went for a rotten face look, it has worked well in the past using that technique. But I see your point, it does look a bit like its glowing... Might have to fix that.

The tournament came and went, and I did manage to finish the Battle Standard in time even. Pictures of that one will follow, shortly hopefully.
I did take some pictures of my games so I might write up some reports if people are interested.

Alright, update time!
Oddly enough not with the rumoured BSB. Instead I present to use my two Lamia vampires (although one is just a demi-vampire). These two ladies are both part of my Mordheim warband.

First of is two pictures of Ast right before priming:

Then we have painted pictures of Hashepsut, the leader (annoyingly with a lot of dust, even though I brusher her off just before taking the pics :swear: ):

I am mostly happy with her. Thinking about repainting the staff shaft and the scabbard black. Also a bit unsure about the two red details. Would love some input on this. I also must attempt to take a better pictures showing her face, as I am quite pleased with it.

Next is painted pictures of Ast, the Apprentice.

And with an alternative armament:

This one I am very happy with. Had a bit of trouble figuring out how I wanted to paint the skin. Fluffwise she is partly a vampire so I first tried to go with a pale look, but that didn't suit her at all. Then I tried darkening it a bit but it just turned grey and look like crap. Finally I decided to go with what suited the mini best which I believe is this dark, almost golden, skin. I am also very pleased with the hair. I tried something entirely new on her. As you can see in the WIP pics at the beginning of the post, her hair is sculpted entirely flat. I wanted that because I've noticed black hair being a bit tricky to paint, since if you highlight each stand of hair it just turns grey. Instead I've tried to highlight it to reflect shine, very much inspired by manga hair. I figured this would be easier to do with a flat surface, where I can myself decided where to put the shine. I personally think it worked pretty well, but you can judge by yourself.

Finally the two of them together:

That's all for now folks. Would love some comments on these :)

Amazing models man. been a while since I last checked this plog. have to say i don't really like that grave guard banner but the unit looks awesome regardless =D

Just as Eyeless said, amazing :) Hashepsut is really impressive, all the folds on the clothing were a good place to show off some highlighting xD Personally I think that the scabbard works good as it is, keeps her outer layers of clothing in light colors. Such symbolic 'outer innocence' works well for the Lahmians :) The staff shaft perhaps could be black... And the red accents seem fine as they are now for me - it breaks the blue and green nicely, without being too much. Seeing her face up close would really be nice ;) Her chest is also impressive xD especially on the last picture. Her skin looks so.. radiant.

Ast is also painted very, very good, only she doesn't look like a vampire - but I understand it's difficult when trying to make her look like an egyptian. I'd try maybe skin with the same value, but maybe more desaturated. Still, that would be difficult to not make her grey ;) Your idea with the hair works very well in my opinion - it's easier to paint, as you wrote and I envision this 'egyptian beauty' with her hair exactly like this - straight, black and shiny ;)

So, overall - a great job as always :)

Thanks guys, very glad to hear you like the two ladies :)
Been thinking about what I said about repainting and am now confident in the blue of the scabbard, but I will do something about the staff.

@Borgnine: "Mask of Innocence" is the name of one of the Lamia Blood Powers in 9th Age, that was pretty much what I was aiming for so I'm glad I got that message through xD
I had originally planned that I would be able to use both Ast and Hashepsut as Lamia vampires in 9th Age armies, but seeing the end result of the models I don't think Ast fits the bill for that. I am very happy with her though, and I'm actually glad I went for what fitted the model better. Cause who is to say a demi-vampire has to have pale skin after all ;)
And besides, it gives me all the more reason to fix up more Lamia vampires in the future.

@Nagash Worshiper: Rest assured I have models from all the bloodlines waiting in my drawer. I will get around to them eventually ;)

@Farmer7574: glad you like it :)

I now have a teaser for you all. Lately I have been working on my entry for the Turning the World to Darkness challenge, and I've finally finished building it. Now I just have to paint the damn thing. Anyways, here is the teaser:

Very nice work, mate! I really like how you've used a relatively limited palette of colours, but still make each model look so stunning :)

Also, great work on the sculpting! Very groovy models full of character :D

Got a small and long awaited update for ya. Actually have more stuff that I should share with you but for various reasons I have to wait with the rest. For now you'll have to settle for my Nosferatu BSB. I did manage to finish this guy in time for that tournament long ago, but I haven’t had a chance to photograph it until now.

And a close up on his pretty little face:

That's all for now. Feel free to comment :)

Thanks @Farmer7574 :)

Short wait for the next update, though the majority of it you have seen already. It's the Winged Reaper from the last challenge. Never got around to posting the pics in here.

I'll start it of with the WIP pics before painting it. This is what the thing looked like when I took the teaser shot (which is actually a picture of its shadow, and tinkered a bit with). Cookies for anyone who can identify the part I used to make the back of his head and his neck.

The standard turned out great, it ties nicely with the GG one and the corpse on the top has a really good color :)

And I was wondering where are the photos of the Winged Reaper - shortly before you actually posted them. All those closeups really add up to him. I like all the various parts that went into making him and how bloody and messy those 'fleshy' parts are. This one dude on the leg - to have your precious body used in such an utilitarian way by some unholy construct, to rock back and forth with every step - I find such things REALLY disturbing - but I think that's how it should be in the undead army ;) The scythe's handle could be a little rougher in my opinion, but it's a great job nontheless  I looked at that neck piece of his and all I can say is that it looks vaguely orcish, with those horns there...

What did you use for his chest? It's wood? Sculpted somehow? And how are you making blood?

@Borgnine: Thanks for the comment :)

The neck is indeed an orc piece. From the Orc Shaman to the right in this image. Bought the model and used the body to build a warboss. He is nowdays mounted on my Wyvern, but originally rode a warboar. Had the top of his staff in my bitz box for ages, an now finally found a use for it ^^

This whole dude was a complete random build for me, inventing it up as I went along. Starting from a wire skeleton, I built up the chest with miliput. For the wooden pieces I actually copied your technique Borgnine, using balsawood and super glue. Wonderful method, will definitely be using it in the future. The final step on the chest (which I thought of very shortly before priming the dude), was covering it in Argellan Earth. It created this really nice crackled surface. I imagine it is some kind of stone that the necromancer shaped into a chest. Hammering in nails in the back to secure it and fitting a metal cradle for a macabre heart for some reason.

The corpse on the foot was another idea I had just out of the blue. For the other foot I used a hoof from the chaos giant, but here I found some odd piece from an empire cannon that I thought I'd use. While covering up the joint of it I noticed it took the shape of a torso, so I just went with it and added arms and a head.

The blood is simple. Just Tamiya Clear Red mixed with a tiny bit of black. Then smear it all over xD
